This tour will definitely be a core memory that will never be forgotten. Taki San speaks very good English and is well aware and informed of the history of the Eastern Hokkaido region aside from being super friendly and hospitable. When I participated in the ice floe walk with Picchio, miraculously, the ice floes had returned, and I was able to enjoy it! Picchio was very thorough in not only guiding us through the activity but also teaching us about the nature of Shiretoko, which made for great memories!

At first, I was nervous, pressing the accelerator with my thumb while driving, but as I got accustomed to it, I learned how much pressure to apply and started to enjoy myself. I had fun taking commemorative photos at the U-turn section of the course and playing in the snow. The ride felt like horseback riding. By the end of the course, I was able to pick up speed, feeling like a boat racer as I navigated from the straightaway into the corners, then back to full throttle on the straight. It was incredibly fun and a great way to relieve stress, bringing back exciting and thrilling feelings I hadn't experienced in a while.

The instructor provided very clear explanations and kept an eye on us during the experience, which made me feel safe. As I was leaving, all the staff came out to see me off until the taxi was out of sight, and I truly appreciated that. I was moved by the warmth of all the staff. I am very grateful for everything. I will definitely come back again.

いざ　体験の時間になり　初めてなので少し不安もありましたが　しばらく練習コースで体験して慣れて来た所でコースに出ました。初めてで最初はビクビクしながらアクセルを親指で押しながら運転していましたが慣れてくると押す強さもだんだんとわかり　楽しめるようになりました。コースのUターンの所で記念撮影したり雪遊びをしたりして楽しませてもらいました。乗り心地は乗馬をしている感覚でした。最後コースではスピードも出せるようになり　競艇選手の様な感じで直線からコーナーを回り　また直線でアクセル全開状態ですごい楽しかったです。
ストレス発散できワクワク　ドキドキ。久しぶりの感覚でした。
指導員さんもとてもわかりやすい説明で体験中も目配りをして頂き　安心して体験できました。
帰り際にスタッフさん総出でタクシーが見えなくなるまで　お見送りして頂き　本当に有難うございました。

I participated in mid-March, and it snowed heavily the night before, allowing us to enjoy snowshoeing in the fluffy fresh snow!

Led by an experienced guide, we walked through the park/forest, taking photos at picturesque spots and making snow angels. I learned a lot about the animals, trees, and plants in Asahiyama Memorial Park. We were lucky to find adorable red fox footprints and even spotted a long-tailed tit! I never expected to have such a wonderful outdoor experience so close to downtown Sapporo.

On the day of the event, the shuttle service to the hotel was very convenient, and if requested, we could also rent a full set of gear, including clothing and shoes. They even had shoes available in size 30 cm and larger sizes like XL for my partner!

Advice:
- In the world of white snow, the weather was excellent, and the sunglasses I brought were very helpful.
- Since I tend to get cold easily, I overdressed, which was a mistake. They provide warm outerwear for rent, and since there is a lot of physical activity, depending on the temperature that day, it might be good to wear something easy to take off and adjust while changing in the car before departure. Once you set off, it’s difficult to remove inner layers.
- Another thing I regret is not applying sunscreen or lip balm on my lips. My lips got sunburned and were painful for several days.

経験豊富なガイドさんに連れられ公園/森の中を歩く中、映えスポットで写真撮影をしてくださったり、スノーエンジェルをつくったり。旭山記念公園にいる動物、木々や植物について教えて頂き大変勉強にもなりました。運良く可愛らしいキタキツネの足跡を見つけたり、シマエナガにも会えました！札幌の市街地からすぐの場所でこんなに素敵なアウトドア体験ができると思いませんでした。

当日はホテルへの送迎や、お願いをしておけばウェアやシューズも一式借りることができ大変便利でした。パートナー用に靴は３０cm、XLの大きいサイズでも借りることができました！

アドバイス：
・白銀の世界の中、天気が非常によく、持参していたサングラスがとても役に立った。
・寒がりなので厚着をしてしまい、失敗。レンタルは上下温かいアウターを用意してくださる＋運動量も多いので、当日の気温にもよると思うが出発前、車の中での着替えの際に脱ぎ着・調整しやすいものを着ておくと良いかもしれない。出発してしまうとインナーを脱ぐのは難しい。
・もう一つの反省は、唇にも日焼け止めかリップを塗っておくべきだったこと。唇だけ日焼けをしてしまい数日間痛かったです。

On the day (February 20), I planned to move to Abashiri and board the Aurora icebreaker, but since there was no drifting ice in Abashiri and the weather was bad, I did not board. (I also boarded the Aurora in early March the previous year, but there was no drifting ice then either, and it was a sightseeing cruise.) Utoro is recommended as it has a longer drifting ice season compared to Abashiri and Monbetsu.

当日(2/20)午後、網走に移動し砕氷船オーロラに乗るつもりでしたが、網走は流氷がなく悪天候の中の遊覧クルーズになったので、乗船しませんでした。(前年の3月頭にもオーロラに乗ったが、その時も流氷はなく遊覧クルーズでした)
ウトロは網走・紋別に比べ流氷のシーズンが長いので、お勧めです。

You walk on snowy paths wearing snowshoes. There are gentle ups and downs as you cross a small hill and enter the flatlands, but the pace is adjusted to match everyone's fitness levels. However, my 6-year-old child found it difficult to walk in the snowshoes and couldn't continue about 1 km from the return point, so I had to carry them. Unfortunately, we were left behind because there was another tour scheduled. Although there were other tourists, which helped us find our way back, I felt a bit anxious.

Walking on flat paths feels different in terms of fatigue, so if you're participating with small children, be prepared to carry them back to enjoy the experience. However, since you can find your way even without joining the tour, it might be a good idea to rent snowshoes at the Shiretoko Nature Center and enjoy a leisurely trek on your own.

小高い丘を越えて平地にはいるため緩やかな高低がありますが、みなさんの
体力に合わせて進んでくれます。
しかし、子供が６歳でスノーシューが歩きにくく帰りの工程では残り１ｋｍくらいの所で子供が歩けなくなり抱っこして歩くも、次のツアーがあるからと置き去りにされてしまいました。
他の観光客がいたので帰り道はわかりましたが、少し不安が残りました。
平坦な道を歩くのとは多少疲労感が異なるため、小さい子供と一緒の方は抱っこして帰るくらいの覚悟で参加すればそれなりに楽しめます。
ただ、ツアーに参加しなくても行先はわかるので、知床自然センターでスノーシュー等を借りて個人でゆったりトレッキングを楽しむのも良いかもしれません。

I took another bus to JR Kitahama Station to view the drift ice from a sightseeing train. After that, I took a bus from Abashiri Station to explore the frigid Notoro Cape, returning to Abashiri at 4 PM.

It was a very packed day. Thank you to all the staff for their hard work.

Since it was the Lunar New Year, there were many gentlemen talking loudly and ladies coughing without masks.

またバスに乗ってJR北浜駅に行って、観光列車から流氷を眺めて、
網走駅からバスに乗って、極寒の能取岬を散策して、
網走に戻ったのが16時。

とっても盛り沢山な一日でした。スタッフの皆さん、ご苦労様でした。

春節だったので、大声で喋りまくる紳士や、マスク無しで咳をしまくる御婦人が多数いました。

It was my first time wearing a dry suit, so I felt a bit awkward until I got used to it, but I was able to fully enjoy the ice floe walk without feeling cold at all. The staff were kind and took a lot of photos for us. The photos they took were linked on the Picchio blog that night, and we could access them with a password provided only to the participants of that day. It was very convenient to be able to download the photos taken with other participants as well. If you're visiting Shiretoko during the ice floe season, I definitely recommend joining this experience.

ドライスーツを着るのが初めてだったので慣れるまで少し動きづらかったのですが、寒さを感じることも無く流氷ウォークを思う存分楽しむことが出来ました。

I planned a trip with the purpose of attending the Sapporo Snow Festival, but after receiving advice from my son’s wife, who has experience living in Hokkaido, I quickly booked a tour.

The scale was smaller compared to the Snow Festival, but it's hard to express in words, so please check the photos. The journey included encounters with deer and sights like Lake Shikotsu, making the trip to the venue full of highlights.

It seems you can also get there using public transportation, but considering the cold and the thought of waiting in line, it was a great success to follow the advice and go with the tour. The guide was very friendly and introduced us to various attractions, making for a truly enjoyable time.

The guide was incredibly kind and friendly, sharing interesting facts about Hokkaido on the way from Sapporo Station to the fishing spot, and we arrived in no time.

The local staff were also very helpful, allowing us to experience drilling holes for the wakasagi fishing.

Thanks to the guide's precise instructions, I was really happy when I caught two wakasagi at once after initially not catching anything!

The café au lait served in a Nordic wooden cup and the crispy, freshly fried wakasagi were truly delicious…! I’m so grateful; words can't fully express how wonderful this experience was!

I had prepared for temperatures around minus ten degrees on the Aurora ship, but with no wind and temperatures above ten degrees, I was relieved to be comfortable without my coat. Unfortunately, the crucial drifting ice had moved away, leaving only a small amount of ice floating around Abashiri.

What saved the day was the beautiful view of the snow-capped Shiretoko mountain range under clear skies. In the end, I believe the various attractions I visited in Abashiri were so good that they made me want to challenge myself to return again in the future.

人生の後短いものが、やっと念願のものが達成されると喜んでいたが、開いてみれば、異常気象で地元民も体験していないと言うくらいの２月の暖かさで、オーロラ号船上でマイナス１０度程度の気温を覚悟し防寒対策をして臨んだものの、風もなく10度以上の気温から上着を脱ぎ寒くなくて良かったと喜びもよそに、肝心の流氷は沖へ去り網走周囲には何もなく少しの氷が浮いている状況でした。
　救われたのは、晴天の遥かに知床連山の白い雪のかぶった山々がきれいに見えたことでした。
　最後に、網走で見学した各観光は年を置いて、再度挑戦する気持ちの起こる程に良かったと思います。

少し移動したら見渡す限りの流氷原。慣れるまでは慎重に歩いてその後は氷割ったり海に使ったり。吹雪くとさすがに寒いらしいですが、この日は後半沖の方は晴れてきました。
