As expected from the famous captain, he entertained us from start to finish! The Blue Cave, wild sea lions, and the captain's fun announcements kept us shouting "Wow!" and "Yay!" throughout the voyage. I want to ride again!

I went on a guided tour around Shiretoko Five Lakes in late April. You can rent rubber boots, making it easy to walk around the lakes without getting soaked, even if you're coming from the Kansai or Kanto regions. The park opened on April 21, and the elevated wooden path can be walked freely without a guide. However, on days with unfavorable weather, there are lectures at the nearby field house, and if you're not familiar with the area, you won't be allowed to walk close to each lake without a guide. I recommend that first-time visitors join a tour with a guide, as they are professionals who know Shiretoko well and provide plenty of valuable information. The lakes may still have ice and snow until around Golden Week, so if you're not coming to see the snowy scenery, visiting between August and October might be more advisable. Just keep in mind that the true master of Shiretoko is not humans but the brown bears, so if even one bear appears during the tour, all tours at Shiretoko Five Lakes for that day will be canceled for everyone, so please be cautious.

４月下旬に知床五湖を周るガイドツアーへ行ってきました．長靴もレンタルでき関西・関東方面からでもずぶぬれにならずに湖の周りをラクにまわれます．４月２１日開園で高架木道はガイドさんなしでも自由に散歩できます．が天候のよろしくない日も含めて地上遊歩道は近くのフィールドハウス内でレクチャーがあり，慣れてない方のばあいガイドさんなしでは散策の認定又は許可がおりず各湖のそばまで散歩できません．初めて行かれる方はガイドさんとツアーでまわられることをお勧めします．知床をよく知ってるプロの方々なのでお得な情報満載です．ゴールデンウィークあたりまで湖は氷面で積雪してる場合がありますので，雪景色を見に来られたのでなければ，８月から１０月の間がおススメかもしれません．ただ知床の主はあくまでも人間でなくヒグマなのでツアー中にヒグマが一匹でも出没すれば，他のツアーの方々も含め，その日は知床五湖のツアー全て全員中止になりますのでご注意ください．

Four of us visited Hokkaido for the first time in April 2024. After spending a few days exploring the vibrant city of Sapporo, we ventured out to Abashiri—a more remote, rural part of the region. Wanting to make the most of our time and truly experience the natural beauty of the area, we booked a day-long tour through Veltra.

From start to finish, the experience far exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Taki, was exceptional—knowledgeable, organized, and incredibly attentive to both safety and enjoyment. The day was filled with unforgettable moments, from snowshoeing through serene landscapes to spotting local wildlife. Taki's passion for the area and his thoughtful guidance truly made the tour special.

We cannot recommend this tour—and especially Taki—highly enough. If you're visiting Abashiri and want a meaningful, well-curated adventure, this is absolutely the way to go.

I strained my ligament first thing in the morning and could barely walk, but I'm really glad I participated. Thank you very much for all your help. I would like to join again in a different season. Thank you!

天候は私たちの外出の日には理想的ではなく、激しい雪が降っていました。そのため、目的地は森の散策に変更されましたが、雪の冬に慣れていない人々にとっても素晴らしい体験でした。ガイドはフレンドリーで、道中に彼自身の体験を共有してくれました。全体的に、楽しい外出で、私たちは自然の中での時間を心から楽しみました。

The weather wasn’t ideal on the day of our outing, as it was snowing heavily. Hence our destination was changed to a walk through the forest, which was also a great experience—especially for those not accustomed to snowy winters. Our guide was friendly and shared his personal experiences along the way. Overall, it was a pleasant outing, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our time in nature.

The staff were very kind, and it was fun to talk with them. We caught a lot of wakasagi, and my daughters were very happy. I have experienced wakasagi fishing a few times in different places, but this was the first time we caught so many. The onion soup served with the wakasagi tempura was also excellent. Thank you for a truly enjoyable time.

スタッフの方々がとても親切でお話も楽しかったです。ワカサギもたくさん釣れて、娘達もご機嫌でした。別の場所で何回かワカサギ釣りを経験はしましたが、こんなに釣れたのは初めてでした。ワカサギの天ぷらと一緒に出していただいたオニオンスープも最高でした。本当に楽しい時間をありがとうございました。

I had a great time fishing for wakasagi for the first time, and even though the fish were small, it was enjoyable. It was still a bit cold inside the tent.

初体験のワカサギ釣りで魚が釣れて、小さいながらも楽しかったです。テントの中にはまだ少し寒かったです。

I joined the tour hoping to catch 2 or 3 wakasagi and take some pictures, but once we started fishing, we kept catching more and more, and before we knew it, we had caught 50 fish between the two of us. The tempura was delicious as well. The staff were very accommodating, which made for a relaxing experience. The guide's stories were enjoyable, making it a memorable tour. I'm really glad I participated in the wakasagi fishing tour!

ワカサギを2,3匹釣って写真が撮れたらいいな…と思いツアーに参加したのですが、釣り始めたらどんどん釣れて楽しくなり気付けば2人で50匹も釣っていました。
天ぷらも美味しくいただきました。
スタッフの方々の対応も良く安心して過ごせました。ガイドの方のお話も楽しく思い出に残るツアーとなりました。

I took a one-hour cruise from 1:00 PM. This year, due to the mild winter, the drift ice was delayed, and during the reservation confirmation call the day before, I was told that "the drift ice hasn't arrived yet," so I thought I might not be able to see it. However, on the day of the cruise, I was lucky to see the drift ice for the first time this season. The weather was also nice, and I could clearly see Kunashiri Island.

While waiting to board, a staff member recommended some great spots inside the boat, allowing me to feed the Steller's sea eagles and see the drift ice up close.

My friends who joined from the Kanto region were also delighted, making it a truly wonderful experience.

13:00〜の1時間クルーズに乗船しました。
今年は暖冬で流氷が遅れており、前日の予約確認のお電話では「流氷がまだ来ていない」とのことで見られないかもしれないと思っていましたが、当日はシーズンで初めて流氷を見れてラッキーでした。
お天気も良く、はっきりと国後島も見られました。

乗船前に並んでいたときにスタッフさんに船の中でオススメの場所を教えてもらえたので、オオワシへの餌やりや流氷を目前で見ることができました。

関東から参加した友人たちも喜んでくれていたので、とても素晴らしい体験となりました。

It was my first time doing the Shiretoko Drift Ice Walk. I was told that the weather and the condition of the drift ice on that day were perfect, so the timing was great. Walking on the ice and even immersing myself in the melting parts of the drift ice sea was an experience that I can't express in words. It created wonderful memories for me. I definitely want to participate in the Shiretoko Drift Ice Walk again!

It was cold, but I was able to take some great photos and had a lot of fun. I saw some people who looked like they were struggling with seasickness, so for those who get motion sickness, it's a good idea to take some medication before going!

寒かったけど、しっかり写真も撮れて楽しいです。船酔いしてしんどそうな人もいましたので酔う人は酔い止め飲んで行くのはっすです！

The talk from the foreign captain was enjoyable. To be honest, the Blue Grotto itself wasn't that impressive. The small boat sways quite a bit, so please make sure to take motion sickness medication. Some people were vomiting from seasickness.

外国人の船長のトークが楽しかったです。青の洞窟自体は正直それほどでした。
小さい船でかなり揺れるので酔い止めは絶対に飲んでください。何人か船酔いで吐いてました。

Our guide, Takky, had a warm and wonderful demeanor. We were able to explore the great outdoors in a way we had never experienced before, and both my son and I had an incredibly satisfying adventure. I hope to have this experience again in the summer or at another time. I absolutely recommend this guide, and I would love to participate again and recommend it to my friends. Thank you very much.

The famous captain was very entertaining. He adjusted the timing and showed us some really beautiful views. I want to go again.

This tour will definitely be a core memory that will never be forgotten. Taki San speaks very good English and is well aware and informed of the history of the Eastern Hokkaido region aside from being super friendly and hospitable. He made sure that I enjoyed every second of it. I am happy that I wont be worried anymore if I ever come back to Eastern Hokkaido as Peacan Kikaku is the answer.

Since there was wind and waves at Lake Shikotsu, we wrapped up early and enjoyed kayaking on the Chitose River under the Yamasen Bridge. The autumn foliage in the mountains was beautiful during this season, and kayaking on the Chitose River was very relaxing. It ended in no time, so I wish we had about 30 more minutes.

支笏湖は風も有り波立っていたので早々に切り上げ、山線鉄橋の下をくぐり千歳川でカヤックを楽しみました。この時期、山の紅葉が綺麗で千歳川のカヤックは癒されました。あっという間に終了してしまったので、あとプラス30分くらいは欲しかったです。

I applied individually the day before and participated. The morning session was fully booked, but I was able to join in the afternoon after changing the time. Since it was a tour with multiple groups, I was with other participants. During that time, I was with someone from China, and I was impressed that the guide communicated in both Japanese and English. Throughout the tour, I was able to enjoy walking around Shiretoko Five Lakes. It was a compact tour that could be completed in a short time, making it highly recommended for those who are short on time.

　個人で前日に申し込んで参加しました。午前が満員でしたが、午後からOKということで、時間変更で参加させていただきました。複数グループでのツアーのため、他の方と一緒でした。その際、中国からの方と一緒になりましたが、ガイドの方が、日本語と英語で対応されて、お、すごいと思いました。終始、楽しく、知床五湖の周りを歩くことが出来ました。短時間でコンパクトに回れて、お時間のない方に、おすすめのツアーでした。

I am grateful to Ayano, who guided us for three hours with a wealth of experience and a deep love for the flora and fauna of Shiretoko, providing explanations that were very clear and thorough.

I was able to see a lot of wildlife, such as countless Ezo deer, pairs of red-crowned cranes, minks, kingfishers, and white-tailed eagles, possibly because we could operate quietly and alone without encountering other tours. Although it wasn't an animal, I also got to see the train running along the Senmo Line from the river up close.
The guide was polite and provided kind assistance. Thank you very much.
I was very satisfied to spend such an extraordinary time and would like to experience it again in a different season.

他のツアーと遭遇することなく、静かに単独で運行できたからか、多くの野生動物を見ることができました。エゾシカ（数えきれない程）、つがいの丹頂鶴、ミンク、カワセミ、オジロワシ、鮭等です。動物ではありませんが、川から走行する釧網線の列車も近くで見ることができました。
ガイドさんも丁寧で、親切に案内していただけました。ありがとうございました。
非日常の時間を過ごせて大満足でした。また違う季節に体験したいと思います。

I participated with three friends (in our 50s). Before joining, I felt a bit anxious even after watching the guide video on the day of the event (like what if we encounter a bear, or if I can walk until the end?). However, once we started walking, that anxiety quickly turned into excitement.

We were blessed with great weather and walked refreshingly, and the lake was calm, so the reflected scenery on the water's surface was stunning. I truly think that if you visit here, you should see the Shiretoko Five Lakes. And definitely do it with a guide! They show you wonderful views that you wouldn't notice on your own, along with explanations.

One of my friends had been to Shiretoko before, but they were once again moved by how amazing this place is! Next time, I want to see it during the autumn foliage season.

参加する前、当日のガイドビデオを見たあとも少し不安を抱いておりました。（熊に出会ってしまったらとか、最後まで歩けるかな？とか）でも歩き初めてからは直ぐにワクワク感に変わりました。
お天気にも恵まれ爽やかに歩みを進め、湖は無風なので水面に映る反転した景色は素晴らしかったです
ここを訪れるなら知床五湖を見てほしいと本当に思います。そして、ぜひガイドさんと共に！自分達だけでは気がつくことのできない素敵な景色を説明とともに見させてくれます。
友人は以前にも知床には来た事があったけれど、こんなに素晴らしいところだったんだ！と改めて感動していました。
今度は紅葉の季節も見てみたいと思います。

● About the Tour
We had a course starting at 6 AM, where we encountered Ezo deer and many other animals and birds. The fantastical scenery enveloped in mist felt like a dream, and it was especially moving to observe several natural monuments, such as the white-tailed eagle.

● About the Canoe and Equipment
The large-sized canoe provided was extremely stable, allowing even beginners to enjoy it without any worries. Additionally, thanks to the blankets prepared for warmth, we were able to continue our observations comfortably.

● About the Guide
Our guide, who is a local with nearly 30 years of experience, not only taught us about the flora and fauna but also shared detailed insights about the region's history and culture. I was amazed by their keen observation skills, as they continuously found and introduced various animals hidden in different spots.

After the tour, we also received recommendations for places to visit, which unexpectedly allowed us to observe many cranes.

I definitely want to participate in a winter tour next time. Thank you!

本当に素晴らしい体験ができるツアーでした！

●ツアー内容について
早朝6時からのコースで、エゾシカや多くの動物、鳥たちと出会うことができました。気嵐に包まれた幻想的な風景はまるで夢の中にいるようで、特に天然記念物のオジロワシを何羽も観察できたのは感動的でした。

●カヌーや装備について
用意された大きなサイズのカヌーは安定性が抜群で、カヌー初心者でも不安なく楽しむことができました。また、冷え対策として準備いただいたブランケットのおかげで、快適に観察を続けることができました。

●ガイドさんについて
地元出身で30年近い経験を持つガイドさんで、動植物についてだけでなく、地域の歴史や文化についても詳しく教えてくださいました。観察眼が鋭く、次から次に各所に潜む動物を見つけて紹介してくださったのには驚きました。

また、ツアー後におすすめの訪問先紹介もいただき、おかげで思いがけず多くのタンチョウを観察することもできました。

次回は真冬のツアーにもぜひ参加してみたいです。ありがとうございました！

I thought it would be difficult to encounter animals due to the heavy rain the day before, but I was able to encounter more deer than I imagined. I also had the chance to see eagles and cranes, which made for a wonderful time. While there may be times when you can't see any animals at all, I think it's also nice to leisurely float down the river while enjoying the scenery. I believe it's an experience worth trying at least once.

自然相手なので前日の大雨の影響で動物との遭遇は難しいかと思っていましたが想像以上の鹿たちと遭遇できました
また鷲やタンチョウとも遭遇することができとてもいい時間を過ごすことができました。
動物相手で全然見ることができないことがあるかもしれませんが景色を見ながらゆったりと川を下っていくのもいいと思います
一度は体験してみるべきかと思います

I participated alone.
The captain is Russian, but he speaks Japanese well!
There are many interesting sights to see before reaching the cave, and he explains everything in a fun and entertaining way. You can also experience a roller coaster-like feeling, and by the end, you might be shouting so much that your throat hurts. If you're worried about seasickness, it's a good idea to bring some medication for peace of mind. If you go to Otaru, this is definitely an experience you should try!

船長はロシア人の方ですが、日本語も上手！
洞窟に行くまでも色々に見どころがあり、面白おかしく説明してくれます。また、ジェットコースター感覚も味わえ、終わった時には声を出しすぎて喉が痛くなるほど船酔いが心配な方は、薬を用意していくと安心です。小樽にいったら、絶対に体験した方がいいですよ

The weather was cloudy, so the lake's blue wasn't as vibrant as expected, but the water was still very clear, and with the autumn foliage, there were many picturesque spots.

天候が曇り、なので予想より湖の青は感じられなかったけど、それでもとても水が綺麗で紅葉時期と重なり、写真映えするところがたくさんありました。

I was able to participate without any anxiety thanks to the polite response to my inquiries beforehand.

In the morning, we went trekking at Shiretoko Five Lakes. I was a bit worried since there had been a high frequency of bear sightings until the day before, but it ended safely.

Listening to the guide's explanations while exploring was enjoyable, as we learned about points we might have overlooked and the guide's personal favorite spots. We discussed various topics such as plants, animals, and history. The three-hour walk was not tiring at all.

The weather was also excellent, providing us with stunning views.

Next, we continued with the primeval forest trekking. Again, we listened to the same guide's stories while relaxing on pine needles along the way, heading towards the first cliff. The magnificent natural scenery was breathtaking. Then we ventured back into the forest. We encountered a deer that suddenly ran away, which made us tense, thinking it might be a bear! However, the calm response from our guide ensured everything ended well.

This trek also lasted about three hours, and I was never bored until the end; in fact, I felt it could have gone on longer.

Overall, while animal encounters were fewer than expected, it was a great plan that made me want to come back with a guide again. If you're unsure, I highly recommend experiencing it!

事前の問い合わせも丁寧に対応いただき不安なく参加できました。
午前中の知床五湖トレッキング。前日までクマの出没頻度が高かったらしく少し不安もありましたが，無事終了。
やはりガイドさんの解説を聞きながら巡るのは、見落としそうなポイントやガイドさんの個人的な萌ポイントの話など楽しめました。植物動物歴史などいろんな話をしていていただけます。3時間の歩きも苦になりません。
また天気もすこぶる良く、最高の景色でした。
続いて、原生林トレッキング。
こちらも同ガイドさんの話をお聞きしながら、途中松葉でリラックスしたりしながら、最初の断崖へ。
自然の雄大な景色が望めます。そしてまた森の中へ。一度警戒体制で逃げていく鹿に遭遇。熊か！？と緊張が走りましたが落ち着いたガイドさんの対応で無事終了。
こちらも3時間ほどですが全く飽きることなく終了時間。なんなら物足りないくらいでした。

総じて動物の遭遇は少なめでしたが、またガイド付きで来たいと思わせてくれる良いプランでした。
迷われてるならぜひ体験を

I participated with a friend. Our guide, Mr. Umebayashi, came to pick us up on time and took us to see the salmon catch and their upstream journey, which wasn't part of the original plan. He showed us great spots to view and provided helpful explanations.

The weather was cloudy, so we couldn't see the top of Rausu-dake, but we were able to complete a full loop around Shiretoko Goko in the morning without encountering any bears. We took photos at each lake (which turned out great!) and that was really helpful. Along the way, we saw bear scratch marks and he used binoculars to show us birds, explaining which ones they were with an illustration guide.

We also saw swans, which are rare, and the guide took some photos as well! That was wonderful. For lunch, he recommended a restaurant near the roadside station, and afterward, we went to see the salmon upstream.

In the afternoon, we went trekking at a leisurely pace, observing birds and plants with explanations, and the time flew by. There were no steep slopes, making it easy to walk. There were some muddy spots, but trekking shoes handled it well.

On the way back, we could see the top of Rausu-dake and he guided us to a beautiful spot to watch the sunset, which was perfect. We even saw a bear trying to catch salmon from the bridge in the car on the way back (the bear kept failing, looking like "Huh?"). It was a great tour!

友人と参加しました。ガイドの梅林さんが時間通りにお迎えに来てくださり、プランにはない鮭の水揚げと遡上を案内して頂きました。見やすい位置を教えてくれて説明もありがたかったです。
天気は雲で羅臼岳の頂上見えなかったんですが、午前中の知床五湖は熊に遭遇せず無事に一周できました。ぞれの湖で写真を撮って頂き（それがまた上手で！）助かりました。途中熊の引掻き後や、双眼鏡で鳥を見てイラストの一覧でこの鳥ですよ～と教えて頂きました。
白鳥も見れました。滅多に見れないみたいでガイドさんも写真とってみえました！よかったです。
お昼は道の駅の辺りのお店を紹介して頂き、その後鮭の遡上に連れて行ってもらいました。
お昼からトレッキングでゆっくりとしたペースで鳥を見たり、植物を見たり説明もありあっという間でした。急斜面もなく歩きやすかったです。足元もところどころぬかるみがありましたがトレッキングシューズで大丈夫でした。
帰りに羅臼岳の頂上も見え、キレイな夕日の見えるところに案内して下さり夕日までバッチリ見えました。
帰りの橋の上の車の中から川で鮭を取ろうとする熊も見れ（熊は鮭取ろうとして「あれっ？」って感じの失敗ばっかりでしたけど…）いいツアーでした！

In mid-October, we were blessed with perfect weather, making it an incredibly enjoyable experience. The two-hour course included everything from explanations and changing clothes (putting on raincoats, boots, and life jackets) to the kayaking experience and receiving photos, so the actual kayaking was probably about an hour. However, it was quite satisfying due to the physical activity involved.

We paddled through a very calm and sparkling lake with a transparent bottom, with only the wind and waves from distant sightseeing boats creating some ripples. It was impressive how quiet it was, allowing us to hear the guide's voice clearly amidst the magnificent scenery.

The soft serve ice cream we had afterward was delicious! It was such a wonderful experience that I would love to go again in a different season.

10月の半ばで、これ以上ないお天気に恵まれて、最高に楽しい体験でした。
説明、着替え（カッパと長靴、救命胴衣の装着）、カヤック体験、写真受け取りまで全部含めて2時間のコースなので、カヤック自体は1時間くらいだったのでしょうか。でも、運動量もあるのでかなり満足感があります。
風や遠くの遊覧船で起こる波があるくらいでとても穏やかでキラキラの湖面を、底が透明なカヤックで進みます。雄大な景色の中なのに、ガイドさんの声がよく聞こえるくらい静かなのが印象的でした。
終わってから食べたソフトクリームの美味しかったこと！
また違う季節にも行ってみたいと思うくらい素敵な体験でした。

It was my first summer visit to Shiretoko, and I was able to learn a lot about nature and wildlife (especially bears) through the detailed explanations about why certain trees look the way they do and what the meaning of their scars is. It was a wonderful experience to participate in a tour that was more than just walking, and it became a fantastic memory.

初めて夏期の知床でしたが、丁寧な説明でなんでこの木はこんなことになったのか、この傷はどういう意味があるのかなど自然と野生動物(特に熊)の生態を学ぶことができてすごく良かったです。ただ歩くだけではないツアーに参加することが出来て最高の思い出になりました。
