My husband and I had a fun morning learning to make soba noodles. The language barrier is not an issue. Grating your own fresh wasabi as well! However the end product was a bit disappointing, flavour wise and the noodles fell apart during the cooking process. It did feel a bit rushed but it’s one of the cheaper classes available in Kyoto.

It seemed like it was going to rain in Kyoto, so I made a reservation and participated with my daughter. There was a thorough explanation, and we made four types of wagashi, finishing with a tasting and matcha. It's rare to eat something freshly made, so it was very delicious. I especially recommend this when the weather is bad and you can't go out for outdoor activities. There was also a take-home option, so it made for a nice souvenir. I would like to participate again.

I challenged myself with a friend!
There were about 12 participants.
It was a fun and lively atmosphere, and we all got excited together.
The instructor who explained things was very kind and attentive, even though there were moments when I thought the explanations were difficult. It was truly an enjoyable time!
Additionally, I was happy to see the craftsmanship on display.
I thought it would be nice to enjoy making traditional Japanese sweets throughout the seasons!
After watching for an hour and a half, it felt easy.
We made three sweets; one was enjoyed with matcha, and the other two were taken home.

I took a group of undergraduate students here as part of a study-abroad program for U.S. students, and they had a wonderful time and talked about it for days. I think opportunities to do things by hand are always great, and this was one of three separate crafting/making activities I did during this most recent trip to Japan. If you have any interest in confectionary, the culture around tea ceremony, or food more broadly, this is a really fun, engaging way to spend part of a day. The shop is lovely, too.

I went, and as expected, it was super crowded, and I arrived just in time. Everyone, let's make sure to leave with plenty of time to spare. It was challenging, but it turned out pretty well, and both my kids and my wife were very satisfied with the experience. If I have the chance, I would like to go again.

We really had a fun time in soba making. A real hands-on experience.
Our son was with us. We each take turns to grind the seeds, made and kneaded dough. The chef demonstrated and gave us the proper instruction every step of the way. We got to eat the soba we made in the end! What a deal! It was a great experience!

My husband and I both enjoyed the class. We did most all of the steps of making the noodles, even grinding the buckwheat. The only thing we didn’t do was cook the noodles.
The meal itself was excellent, we even got to grind our own wasabi root.
I was worried that the description didn’t say “English available” like the other options, but English was spoken for our whole class. And it was just the two of us. Fun morning with lots of pictures.

Cute Character Bento Box Making Experience in Kyoto

Such a fun experience! This class is a must if you visit Kyoto!

My wife and I scheduled this bento box cooking class because we wanted to do something other than shrines and temples in Kyoto. We didn't know what to expect, but we were both pleasantly surprised!

A few days before our class, the cooking instructor asked where we were staying and informed us on how to get to the house. It ended up being faster to walk from our hotel, so the plan was to walk from our hotel back to her house. Well, it was raining pretty hard on the day of the class so the host met us at our hotel and used her own money to get us a cab back to her house.

The class was a lot of fun! The couple that runs the class was super easy to talk to and did a good job at making us foreigners feel welcome in their home. Also, they have a super cute cat and a playful dog.

After the class was over, the host walked us to the nearest bridge and pointed us in the direction of our hotel. It was raining pretty hard and my wife and I were sharing a single umbrella. The host noticed and offered me her own personal umbrella.

In summary, the cooking class was a lot of fun and the couple that runs it are some of the nicest people I've met. Definitely check this out if you're in Kyoto!

I made three nerikiri sweets. I enjoyed one on the spot with matcha, and took the other two home. The explanations were very easy to understand, and even someone as clumsy as I am was able to finish them. Although nerikiri is a type of wagashi, it's not something you often get to enjoy unless you're involved with tea ceremonies, so this was my first experience. It was a very enjoyable time.

練り切りを３つ作らせてもらいました。１つはお抹茶と一緒にその場でいただき、残りの２つは持ち帰りました。説明がとても分かりやすく、不器用な私でも仕上げることができました。和菓子といっても、練り切りはお茶とかをやっていないとなかなかいただくことができず、私にとっては初めての経験でした。とても楽しいひとときでした。

Highly recommended activity for families. Michi was super nice and patient with us. We learned how to cook the meat, make ramen noodles from scratch, how to cook them perfectly and experiment with ramen broth. The stock is already prepared and we create our own versions of ramen broth by combining the prepared fish and chicken stock, and then adding in one or a comibination of flavors such as soy sauce mix, salt sauce or miso. The place was bright, clean, and organized. It was quite easy to find from the train station stop - Tofukuji. The best part is that we get to enjoy a hearty bowl of ramen at the end of the class! This was definitely a highlight of our trip to Kyoto.

We had a great time making sweets at the lovely sweet shop in Arashiyama. Although we didn't speak much Japanese and our teacher didn't speak much English, with the help of picture cards and demonstrations, he showed us how to make the sweets and he did help us to do some of the trickier more detailed crafting. It was great fun, and it made a nice break away from the crowds in the centre of town. We got to eat one of the sweets we made, with some matcha tea and the others we took home with us. We would highly recommend this activity for all ages.

I did this activity with my 7 year old daughter. We had a great time and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. My daughter loved it. The instructor did not speak much English, but we were able to figure things out. Making the sweets was fairly straightforward, but the instructor helped out when necessary.

The sweets are delicious. A very unique and fun experience that I highly recommend.

I visit Kyoto 2 to 3 times a year, and this time, besides the cherry blossoms in full bloom, I wanted to enjoy a different experience, so I decided to participate.

Thanks to the craftsman's careful explanation, I was able to create something cute even as a first-timer. Also, even though I participated alone, I was able to enjoy myself in a friendly atmosphere with the people sitting at the same table, so I was very satisfied (*´∀｀).

It seems that the types of sweets you can experience change with the seasons, so I would like to make a reservation again for my summer trip!

Everything was fab. As a chef i really wanted to learn how to make soba noodles. Myself and hubby did his. We did it early and wondered around to the shrines and temples nearby afterwards. It was lovely to see how soba noodles are traditionaly enjoyed. Our chef and teacher was happy to take photos of us during all the steps. Well worth taking the time and money to do! Thank for being one of the highlights for us in kyoto.

Kyoto, which is less than an hour from my hometown. I was getting bored of sightseeing and thinking about something fun to do while enjoying the cherry blossoms, so I searched for the Beltora site that I always used overseas... and found it. Making wagashi (Japanese sweets). I've eaten them before, but I've never made them! I participated with my 86-year-old mother. Even though my mother has become a bit clumsy, she was able to enjoy making them, and it seems she experienced a different side of Kyoto. I want to try another fun experience again.

My child had the experience. Unfortunately, it seems we were seated towards the back, so we couldn't hear the teacher's voice, making it difficult to understand how to shape things and what the finished product looked like. However, it seems they still enjoyed it, but it would have been nice if that aspect had been taken into consideration.

Even though they said they didn't understand, the finished items were beautiful and very delicious.

I participated with my 80-year-old mother and my three children, who are in sixth grade, third year of junior high, and first year of high school. It was quite challenging, but it was a valuable experience. The wagashi (Japanese sweets) that I made myself somehow became dear to me, and I cherished them. It was fun. And above all, I learned that freshly made wagashi is delicious!

Really enjoyable full participation course in soba noodle making. The facility was bright, spotless and well laid out with plenty of room. I felt like I experienced every aspect of a surprisingly complex process. The instructor was a practiced expert and he made it possible for all of us to succeed at every step. Definitely add on the yuba making...you'll want to go home and do it there.

Awesome experience. Booked this on our last day in Kyoto, and so happy we did. This was my first touristy cooking class, and it was an absolute blast. Although there was a slight language barrier, it didn’t inhibit the quality of the class at all. The instructor clearly knows the needed English to teach. We spent about 45 minutes making the noodles, and then relax and eat them in a traditional setting for the remainder of the time which was very cool. So much value for the little cost. Highly recommend.

This is a long-established wagashi (Japanese sweets) shop, and I appreciated that it wasn't just an experience for the sake of experiencing something. The ingredients are already prepared, and it starts with shaping them. It might be easy for elementary school students, but I expected it to be quite challenging for adults who have been away from clay modeling. However, they teach you carefully and in order, so I was quite satisfied with what I was able to create. You can eat one on the spot with matcha, and the rest can be packed in a box to take home as a souvenir. I was also satisfied with the taste.

素材は既に用意されていて、形作りから始まります。
小学生でしたら簡単かも知れませんが、粘土細工から遠ざかっている
