It was a course to experience making four types of Japanese sweets. Right after we arrived, there were no seats prepared, and the inappropriate jokes from the elderly instructor were also unpleasant.

4種類の和菓子を作る体験コースでした。
行って早々、座席が用意されていなかったり、
講師のおじいさんの暴言ジョークも気分が悪かったです。

Soba making was such a great and one of a kind experience. Our teacher was very engaging and funny and spoke very good English. It was also very fun to eat our own soba afterwards with wasabi that we grinded ourselves. Would love to do this again!

It was my first time making wagashi, and I found it very enjoyable and easy to participate. I thought I would only need to make a few adjustments to something that was almost finished, but we started from wrapping the anko and combining the outer dough, which allowed everyone's individuality to shine through and made it interesting. After we finished, we also got to enjoy some matcha, which made me very satisfied. I would like to participate again when the seasons change.

和菓子作りは初めてでしたが、とても楽しく気軽に参加できました。
ほぼ出来上がった状態で少し手を加える程度だと思っていたので、あんこを包んだりまわりの生地を合わせるところからはじまり、それぞれ個性が出て面白かったです。
出来上がったあと、お抹茶もいただけて大満足です。
また季節が変わったら参加したいと思っています。

Fun activity to do in Kyoto, from grinding the buckwheat to kneading and cutting the soba noodles. They then cooked the noodles for us to eat, and we could clearly taste the buckwheat in stark difference to the commercial tasteless noodles. Even though there was a language barrier, the instructor did quite well with her limited English and visual instructions to make sure we were on the right track. My wife and I had a great time and would recommend it to anyone!

Instructor was excellent. The location was very difficult to find. Better instructions are needed to find the building.

I like it very much. It was very traditional and taste original.

You can make three types of wagashi (Japanese sweets). The difficulty level is moderate, so I think both children and adults can enjoy it. The wagashi you make can be eaten on the spot with matcha at the end.

三種類の和菓子が作成できます。難しさも適度なので、子供だけではなく大人も楽しめると思います。最後に作成した和菓子は、抹茶と一緒にその場で食べることが出来ます。

It was very fun and the guide/chef was great!
The place also was very clean.

This was my second time participating, and I was a bit more accustomed to it. More than that, the instructor's teaching style was very thorough, and I think I was able to make the "uirou" and "nerikiri" much more beautifully than last time, which I was not satisfied with. Finishing the "kinton" still proved to be difficult, so I would like to challenge myself again next time.

今回は2回目の参加で少しだけ慣れていたということもありましたが、それ以上に講師の方の教え方が丁寧で、前回は不本意な仕上がりだった「ういろう」と「ねりきり」が自分なりに綺麗にできたと思います。
「きんとん」は綺麗に仕上げることがまだ難しかったので、次回また挑戦したいと思います。

I made four types of wagashi (Japanese sweets).
Both my daughter and I had a great time making authentic wagashi.
Among the participants, my daughter was the only child, so we were able to make special dog-shaped wagashi.
Also, those who had a birthday this month received some as well.
Finally, we enjoyed wagashi shaped like azalea flowers along with matcha.
I definitely want to participate again.

和菓子4種類作りました。
本格的な和菓子作りで、娘も私も凄く楽しめました。
参加者の内、子供は娘だけでしたので特別犬の和菓子を作って頂きました。
あと、お誕生日月の方もいただいてました。
最後に、つつじのお花の和菓子とお抹茶を頂きました。
是非また参加したいです。

Overall a great experience! Would have been so much better if the instructor could explain more in English. I caught a few things in Japanese but when he explained in English, he did not repeat it. Otherwise it’s fun and interactive experience. After making soba they take some to make soba chips! We’ve never had (or heard) of it before so that was a treat!

Everyone except me is from China! We explained with a panel.
It's just simple tasks, so it feels a bit lacking. But that might make it enjoyable for everyone! 😊

簡単な作業だけなので、物足りなさも。その分、皆んなが楽しめるかな(^^)

The teacher explained in a lively tone, and it was enjoyable. The teacher magically made sweets in no time, but it wasn't that easy, and I struggled a lot. However, in the end, it took shape. Since the motifs change with the seasons, I would like to try it again. Thank you!

教えてくれた先生は軽快な口調で説明をしてかださり、楽しかったです。
先生は、魔法のように、あっという間にお菓子を作られてましたが、そんなに簡単にできるはずもなく悪戦苦闘しましたが、最後には形になりました。季節によってモチーフが変わるのでまたやってみたいと思いました。

I had a really fun and great experience! I felt that getting to try three types of wagashi for this price was a fantastic deal. The teacher's way of instructing was also very careful, and being able to experience making wagashi in a charming shop really lifted my spirits!

和菓子を3種類もいただけて、このお値段はとてもお得だと感じました。先生の教え方も丁寧で、趣のあるお店の中で和菓子作り体験が出来るので、気分も上がりました！

Two children participated (a fifth grader and a first grader). The older sister said she had a great time and wants to join again in another month. It seems that the sweets made vary by month. The younger sister received help from the craftsman, but both of them did very well.

お姉ちゃんは楽しかったのでまた別の月に参加したいと言ってました。月によって作るお菓子が違うみたいでした。妹は職人さんに手伝ってもらっていましたが2人ともとても上手出来ました。

Fun and educational! Instructor spoke English as well as Japanese, but we had no problem understanding even without the translation (body and hand language was very clear). Small class size gives it a much more personal feel and gives you more opportunity for tips from the instructor. Very informative and easy to follow course with a very tasty end result! I would definitely recommend this course to anyone and can't wait to try making soba again soon!

The class was informative and the teacher provided good instruction on how to prepare the Soba dough and cut the noodles. They also took many photos for us which was very kind!

Afterwards, we were served a delicious meal of the soba we had prepared. It was an overall great experience!

The staff spoke English very well.

We loved making Soba noodles in Gion. We all took part in the step-by-step process of grinding the flour, making the dough, kneading, rolling, and cutting the noodles. The most impressive (and challenging) part was cutting the noodles - there was a lot of skill and patience required. Would definitely recommend!

It was a fun experience! Our teacher/chef did his best to help us out as the only English-speaking party in our class, and aside from some missed explanation in Japanese, the experience is well worth the cost. The fried soba "chips" at the end were delicious! Would sign up again and highly recommend it :)

I participated during the busy year-end season. I thought I might have to cancel if I got too busy, but I was able to attend and had a great experience. I learned how beautiful wagashi (Japanese sweets) are made and tried making them myself, which sparked even more interest in wagashi culture. My daughter and mother, who participated with me, were also happy, and it became a fun memory. There were many participants, and it was almost full, including some foreigners. The event starts on time, so be careful not to be late, as arriving late will reduce the number of sweets you can make.

年末の忙しい時期に参加。もし忙しい場合はキャンセルせざるを得ないかもと思っていましたが、無事参加が叶い良い体験ができました。美しい和菓子が出来るまでを教わり自分で作ってみて、和菓子文化に一層興味が湧きました。一緒に参加した娘も母も喜んでくれ楽しい思い出になりました。参加者も多くほぼ満席で、外国の方もおられました。時間通りに始まるので、開始時間に遅れるとお菓子を作る数が減るので遅刻に要注意です。

I participated in a trip to celebrate my sixth-grade niece's graduation. Actually, I joined the same event two years ago around this time, and the snacks were exactly the same. I would have preferred to have different snacks if possible.

The venue was on the second floor and only accessible by stairs, so I was able to let my mother, who is in her 70s and has difficulty walking, enter the venue first. Despite having nearly 40 participants, there was only one craftsman at the beginning, which led to multiple interruptions in explanations due to accommodating latecomers. I think it's unfair for those who arrived on time to be made to wait. It would have been better if there had been an additional staff member assisting from the start, but that only happened later on.

The explanation for making traditional Japanese sweets was very easy to understand.

小６の姪の卒業祝いの旅行で参加しました。
実は２年前の同時期にも参加したことがあるんですが、全く同じお菓子でした。できれば別のお菓子が作りたかったです。
会場が２階で階段しかないので、足の悪い70代母を先に会場入りさせてもらいました。
40人近い参加者なのに最初は職人さんひとりだけだったので、遅刻してきた人への対応で何度も説明が中断されました。時間通りに来た人が待たされるのはおかしいと思います。最初からもう一人補佐してくれるスタッフがいればよかったのですが、途中からでした。
和菓子作りの説明は、とてもわかりやすかったです。

It was my first time making wagashi, and I had a great time. The people around me were very warm, and I was able to spend a wonderful time, creating great memories.

初めての和菓子作りでしたが、とても楽しむことができました。周りの方もとてもあたたかく、素敵な時間を過ごすことができ、良い思い出になりました。

The location is a bit hard to find, and it seems like you need to look at a map to get there. The exterior has an old-fashioned feel, reminiscent of a long-established place. The restroom was in a lovely detached building.

We were guided by a straightforward female staff member to the experience booth on the second floor. The second floor was another beautiful space with a modern Japanese atmosphere. Besides the two of us, there were five students, and later about eight people from China joined us for the experience. The instructor was a male craftsman. This time, we made four items: a butterfly, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and a cheerful design. Using special tools, we progressed together with guidance from the craftsman.

At the end, we were served matcha along with a piece of wagashi. The remaining three items were packed in a special box for us to take home.

It was a wonderful space, and we had a fun experience! I highly recommend it!

場所は少し分かりづらく、マップを見ながら歩いて行かないと辿りつけなさそうな場所にあります。
外観は老舗、というような古風な感じです。お手洗いは素敵な離れにありました。
サバサバとした話し方の女性店員さんに案内されて二階の体験ブースへ移動します。二階がこれまた素敵な空間で、和モダンな感じです。わたし達2人の他に5人の学生さん、後から8人ほど中国からいらした方が加わっての体験でした。教えてくださったのは男性の職人さんでした。今回は、ちょうちょ、梅とさくら、うららかの4つを作りました。専用の道具で、職人さんに教えて頂きながらみんなで進めていきます。
最後にお抹茶が出てきて、一緒にひとつ和菓子を頂きました。残りの3つは専用の箱に入れて持ち帰ることができました。
とても素敵な空間で楽しい体験ができました〜！おすすめです！

I made four types of wagashi, and it was so much fun that it ended in no time. I enjoyed it with matcha at the end. I occasionally eat the leftover pieces that I cut out, and they're so delicious that I want to eat them quickly! 😊

和菓子4種類作るのですが楽しく作れあっという間に終わりました。最後に抹茶で頂きます。途中型抜きした余ったものを時々食べるんですけど、美味しくて早く食べたくなります(^^)

I was looking for an experience to enjoy with my close friends at the end of the year, and I found this wagashi (Japanese sweets) making experience. We were able to make four beautifully crafted wagashi, and thanks to the artisan's thorough explanations, we had a wonderful time. The finished wagashi were also very delicious, and I was extremely satisfied.

年末に仲良しのお友達と何か体験出来たらと探していて、こちらの和菓子作り体験を見つけました。
とても綺麗な和菓子を四品も作らせていただき、職人さんの丁寧な説明で楽しい時間を過ごすことができ、出来上がった和菓子もとても美味しく大満足でした

I challenged myself to make wagashi (Japanese sweets). I heard that there is an exam to become a wagashi artisan. The instructor seemed like a difficult craftsman at first glance, but the conversation was very enjoyable.

和菓子づくりに挑戦しました。
和菓子職人になるには、試験があると伺いました。
一見、難しそうな職人さんが講師でしたが、会話はとても面白かったです。

The staff, including those who helped me, were all very kind, and I had a great time. I would love to visit again when I come to Kyoto. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

教えてくれる方はもちろん、皆様とても優しい店員さんばかりで、本当に楽しかったです。また京都に来た時は伺いたいくらいです。いい思い出になりました。ありがとうございました。

The place was not easy to find ... fortunately we could use google map. The lesson was conducted partially in English so that was very helpful. It’s really fun making Soba which we could taste after that. Worthwhile experience!
