I have attempted the Gunkanjima landing and tour twice before, but both times were canceled due to a typhoon and the spread of COVID-19, so I made a reservation for the third time, hoping it would be successful.

It was raining and windy from the morning, but we set sail as planned, and my spirits were high. After circling around Gunkanjima shrouded in rain, we unexpectedly docked and were able to land!

The explanations from our guide, Mr. Moriyama, from the Gunkanjima Concierge, were also excellent and easy to understand.

これまで２度、軍艦島上陸・周遊ツアーに挑戦しましたが、台風と新型コロナ蔓延で欠航だったので、３度目の正直としてツアー予約をしました。
朝からの雨と風でしたが、予定通りの出航となり気分は高揚しました。

I participated in a Gunkanjima tour on February 26. The weather was perfect, making it a fantastic day.

The tour included a guide who had worked on Gunkanjima at the time, and hearing their experiences about how challenging it was really drew me in.

It had been since 2015 since I last visited Gunkanjima, and I noticed that part of the school from back then had collapsed, and the ruins are increasingly deteriorating. I felt once again that to see the changing Gunkanjima in as intact a state as possible, it's best to visit sooner rather than later.

2/26に軍艦島ツアーに参加。
当日は晴天に恵まれて最高な1日となった。

ツアーには当時軍艦島で働いていた方のガイドもあり、それはそれは大変だったとの体験談も聞けて、グッと引き込まれた。

また自分自身2015年以来の軍艦島であったが、当時の学校だったところが一部崩れており、どんどん廃墟化が進んでいる。
変わりゆく軍艦島をなるべく壊れていない状態で見るには、早く見るに越したことはないなと改めて感じた。

Unfortunately, the waves exceeded the landing standard of 0.5m, so we only toured Gunkanjima. The response from the onboard guide and staff was very good, and we enjoyed the cruising experience.

I heard that the standards have become stricter since April 1, 2021, but the Gunkanjima Concierge's website only lists the boarding rates up to 2020, and the landing rate under the new standards is unclear. When we returned to port, we received a refund for the landing fee and a free museum ticket, but I think it would have been better if we could also choose a partial refund of the boarding fee instead of just the free museum ticket.

残念ながら波が上陸基準の0.5mを超えてしまい軍艦島の周遊でした。
船上ガイドの方、船上スタッフの方々の対応はとても良く、クルージングとしては楽しめました。

2021年４月1日より基準が厳しくなったとのことですが、軍艦島コンシェルジュさんのHPには2020年までの就航率しか記載がなく、新基準での上陸率は
不明。
帰港するときに上陸料返金、ミュージアム無料券をいただきましたがミュージアム無料券より乗船料の一部返金も選択できるとより良いと思いました。

The weather was nice, and we were able to land. The guide's explanations were easy to understand and listen to.

The ship was large, like a cruiser.

The waves were not rough, so we were able to land without getting seasick.

I went to Nagasaki to get to Gunkanjima from Aichi Prefecture, and it was really great.

If I had known about priority boarding and premium options, I definitely would have signed up for premium (laughs).

On the way back, there was also a sale of castella ice, and I happily had some.

天気も良く、上陸出来ました。

From Osaka, it has been a long-held dream to visit Gunkanjima! Considering the weather forecast and feeling a bit anxious, we were greeted with clear skies on the day of our visit!

I was incredibly moved by the sight of Gunkanjima! The guide who accompanied us was also fantastic! However, I really wanted to land on the island! I understand that Nagasaki City's regulations are strict, but if we can't land in such good weather, it seems that you need to be very lucky to do so. I would love to go again to try to land, but it won't be possible unless the regulations change in Nagasaki City... Still, the scenery was breathtaking!

The weather was nice, but the waves were high, making it impossible to land both in the morning and afternoon. (A few people got seasick along the way, and the staff seemed to have a tough time. It’s definitely essential to have motion sickness medication.)
Although we couldn't land, we were able to slowly circle around Gunkanjima and thoroughly observe the ruins.

I think it's a good idea to start with some background knowledge about Gunkanjima at the digital museum. The images conveyed the lifestyle and historical context of the time very well. The explanations after boarding the ship, while introducing the World Heritage sites of Nagasaki, gradually built up to Gunkanjima, which was very nice. I had wanted to see Gunkanjima at a glance, and I felt lucky to be able to land there since I heard that we couldn't disembark until the day before due to the typhoon's effects. The guide's explanations were clear and informative, which helped me learn a lot. The various photos that remained allowed me to experience that time period, making the explanations easier to understand.

However, one thing that concerned me was the treatment of premium customers. It felt like there was a clear differentiation happening right next to me compared to others. I thought it might be better to designate the front of the second-floor seating as premium. I participated in the morning tour. Before boarding, I learned a lot about the history of Gunkanjima, and I was taught many things I didn't know while on the boat. The wave conditions were just okay, so we were able to land safely.

While feeling a sense of melancholy at the decayed buildings, I was moved to actually see what the island was like back then.

My daughter was not only interested in the history but was also super excited because it is a filming location for Attack on Titan.

I tend to get a bit motion sick, but it wasn't too bad, and I arrived at the destination. Unfortunately, I couldn't disembark due to the waves... However, it was quite enjoyable just to circle around while listening to the explanations. There were various sights to see for a while after we set sail, and there were guides for those as well, so I was able to enjoy parts of the area outside of Gunkanjima.

やや乗り物酔いしやすい体質ですが、そこまで辛くもなく現地に到着。

The explanations were clear, and I learned why Gunkanjima was created, as well as specifics about the lives of the people who lived there, which was enjoyable. It was my first time in Nagasaki, and I was glad to have chosen the concierge who provided recommendations about Nagasaki's features and other tourist spots.

Being able to actually step onto the island and see the buildings from that time up close while receiving detailed explanations was moving. If I have the opportunity to visit Nagasaki again, I would love to participate once more. I believe that it will continue to deteriorate, but I definitely want to visit again to enjoy the changing Gunkanjima.

当日は波も高く風も強く、出港前は上陸できるかどうかわからないといわれていたのですが、スタッフの皆さんのご尽力により、上陸することができました。
それだけでも感動的だったのですが、やっとのことで足を踏み入れた軍艦島の景色に、心の底から感動しました。
事前に訪れた軍艦島ミュージアムでの映像や、船内＆上陸後のスタッフの方のご説明から、数十年前に命をかけて島で働いていた方々の息遣いが聞こえてきそうな気がしました。
これからどんどん劣化が進んでしまうのだとは思いますが、変化していく軍艦島を楽しむためにまたぜひ訪れたいと思います。

I heard the waves were high and worried about seasickness, but the anti-nausea band, acupressure, and medication seemed to work, and I was completely fine. Everyone around me also looked well. It was very cold that day, and it was a shame that I couldn't fully absorb what the guide, who actually lived on Hashima, was sharing due to the cold. However, the view of Gunkanjima from the boat was breathtaking and something you can't experience elsewhere. I want to try again when it's a bit warmer!
