I always thought that riding a yakatabune (traditional Japanese boat) was something to do in the summer, but I heard that in December there are Christmas illuminations and fireworks, so I decided to take a ride on a winter yakatabune!
We gathered at the boat dock, about a 5-minute walk from Kachidoki Station. Since it was the year-end party season, there were more people than I expected. After waiting for a while, we boarded the boat, and drinks were served right away as we set off. On Saturdays in December, there are fireworks in Odaiba, so we took a reverse route from usual. We headed towards the Christmas illuminations in Odaiba and stopped for a while to wait for the fireworks. During that time, freshly made, crispy tempura was served, and I was very satisfied with the food! Before the fireworks, not many people went out onto the deck, and the illuminations along with other yakatabune created an indescribably beautiful scene.
When the fireworks started at 7 PM, I went up to the second floor and was greeted by the Rainbow Bridge and a spectacular display of fireworks right in front of me! It was the best spot! Although it was a short 10 minutes, it was amazing. After the fireworks, we enjoyed the remaining food while heading towards Asakusa. We also got to see the Skytree lit up in green for Christmas, and it reminded me of the wonderful aspects of Tokyo. The lady who was serving and guiding us was fluent in English, so I definitely plan to use this service again when friends from abroad visit!

This is my second time participating, following my first visit about three years ago. I looked at other options, but since I wanted to invite my mother-in-law and my parents, I decided to go with this place again, where I was satisfied last time.
On the day of the event, I strolled around Hamarikyu until the meeting point, passing through Tsukiji, enjoying a walk in Tokyo. It was beautiful as the lights began to illuminate. At the boarding area, which is visible right from Reimei Bridge, two boats were already docked, and many participants had gathered.
One boat was reserved by a company, and the other was for our group. From the moment we boarded, the staff member Kaoruko provided guidance in both English and Japanese, which was reassuring for my mother-in-law, who doesn't understand Japanese. I think this service wasn't available last time, but perhaps it was tailored to the clientele.
I was delighted with the seasonal appetizers, but it seemed that my two-year-old child and my parents particularly enjoyed the Edo-style tempura served one dish at a time! The all-you-can-drink option was also great, and they encouraged us to try a lot, which was fun.
My mother-in-law was pleased with the fan-shaped menu that also served as a guide to Tokyo. Taking photos on the deck at various points was essential, and these little touches were perfect for the hospitality.
This time, my child was the only small one, but with Kaoruko's care and the understanding of those around us, we were able to relax comfortably. Towards the end, my father discovered that someone from the neighboring group was from the same hometown, which created a sense of camaraderie and made us feel the joy of being part of a shared experience.
I look forward to participating again!

The guides on the boat only spoke Japanese, so we had no idea what we were looking at or what they were saying. They did a lot of speaking. Even ordering plum wine was a challenge. I feel that they should have had some narration for non-Japanese speaking people. What we saw was very pretty and the food was very good, so the only complaint is language problem.

Since watching the movie "PIKANCHI" by Arashi, I had been longing to experience a yakatabune (houseboat), and I finally went for it.
I had the impression that yakatabune was mainly for banquets in a tatami room, but you can actually join with a small group of people easily. On the day, there were about ten of us, including a group of older folks reminiscent of a reunion, a pair of women resembling a girls' night out, and my family of three. Instead of tatami seating, we had table seats separated by groups, allowing us to enjoy ourselves without worrying about others.
And what impressed me the most was the freshly fried tempura—it was amazing! They serve each piece freshly fried, and every tempura was delicious! The tempura of anago (conger eel) was particularly outstanding! Enjoying exquisite dishes while gazing at the flowing scenery along the Sumida River from the boat was truly special.
The route took us from Kuramae to Odaiba, where we stopped for a bit before heading back. The boatman guided us through the highlights, sharing insights that I wouldn't have noticed just by looking around myself, which was very informative.
I definitely want to come back during cherry blossom season next time. I imagine the night cherry blossoms would be beautiful!

I participated in a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat) experience with my parents who came from Kyushu, enjoying a typical Tokyo night together across three generations. This was my second time on this yakatabune, having joined it two winters ago. The service quality remains consistently excellent, and I was once again very satisfied!
The highlight of the evening was the food, which seemed to have improved in quality compared to my last visit. The seasonal appetizers were beautifully crafted, and each one was delicious. Even the kids, who usually don’t eat much vegetables or tofu, exclaimed, "This is delicious!" The freshly fried tempura, a highlight of the yakatabune experience, was outstanding! While the dipping sauce was good, the simple taste of salt on the hot tempura was delightful. For dessert, there were two types: fruit and wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). I ended up quite full.
The all-you-can-drink menu included a variety of options like beer (Ichiban Shibori!), shochu (and sour drinks), wine, and umeshu (plum wine), making the time on board feel too short... If I had to wish for something, I would have liked a few more options for soft drinks (the kids had only cola and orange juice).
Last time, an ice cream vendor came by the boat, but this time it was a vendor selling asari (clams) tsukudani (a type of preserved food). At 1000 yen per pack, it seemed a bit pricey in hindsight, but I bought two for my parents and myself, and they sold out right after. It was a lucky moment. Shopping on the boat added to the unique experience, creating wonderful memories.
The night views of Tokyo Skytree and Odaiba are always beautiful, no matter how many times you see them. Personally, I love the night view of the bright red Tokyo Tower the most. It seems that there will be fireworks at Odaiba on Saturday nights in December, so if you visit during that time, I think you can enjoy the yakatabune experience even more.

Last year, when I participated, there was an event where everyone celebrated the birthday guests. After seeing that, my son said he definitely wanted to ride on a yakatabune again for his next birthday, so we joined again this time to celebrate his birthday.
The freshly fried tempura was as delicious as ever, and having all-you-can-drink with it is truly appreciated. Most of the staff were different from last time, but both then and now, everyone was really pleasant, and we had a wonderful time.
Additionally, this time there was a surprise with a comedian on board who performed a traditional Japanese act with a folding fan and a lion dance. There were many guests from abroad as well, which made it very lively.
And then came the much-anticipated celebration event. Besides my two children, there were several other birthday guests, and we all celebrated together. On this day, not only were there birthdays, but there was also a couple who had just gotten married that day, and we shared in their happy atmosphere.
It was a day where I felt that the scenery, food, drinks, and this sense of togetherness are the true essence of a yakatabune experience.

It was my and my father's first experience on a traditional Japanese houseboat, and we had a wonderful time.
The boarding area was near the Oedo Line's Kachidoki Station, which was easy to find even for us who were unfamiliar with the area.
We confirmed our names with the beautiful cabin attendant and boarded the boat. As soon as we got on, we saw the kitchen and greeted the staff, who responded with a smile, saying, "Enjoy your time!" This made us even more excited.
The other guests included salarymen and a group of ladies celebrating a 90th birthday, among others. There was also a couple at a table, and as someone who had the image of a houseboat being solely for parties, I realized, "This can be used for various occasions," which was an eye-opener for me.
As the boat started moving, we felt the excitement from the sound of the motor, while the city lights and illuminated bridges outside the window thrilled us! The cabin attendant provided information at key points, and my father, who loves taking photos, was happily capturing every moment.
The food was delicious. I was delighted that the tempura was freshly fried! We devoured everything from vegetables to fish. Also, having unlimited bottled beer added to the luxurious feeling. Hehe.
We were able to enjoy a truly extraordinary experience. Thank you!

You are seated at your own individual table and it is a very nice "date-night" setting. The group all together was in great cheer and intermingled between meals and during the rooftop sightseeing.
The weather was fair and it rained a little but this did not affect the spirits of the crew, the passengers, or any of the amazing sights we saw!

This cruise is great, I would highly recommend! It was mostly Japanese with a couple of Westerners, however they made us feel very welcome, giving all commentaries/instructions in Japanese and (good) English and just generally the staff were very friendly.
The food is good and plentiful and drink just keeps flowing with a good selection. A lot of the food was fish (no meat) so it may be difficult if you're a vegetarian, unless you can request. Nothing was too odd though (I dont like eating random things!) and I ate and loved it all!
The staff explain the various sites you go past and even though it was pouring with rain we still got a good overview and some great photos. They stop a couple of times so you can have a look and go onto the top of the boat
The people around us were friendly and we just felt like even though we were in the minority we were very welcome!
It was one of the highlights of our trip and I would say go for it, there are not many cruises like it as far as I can tell and it feels very authentic.

This year, the Golden Week has a long holiday, but I can't take much time off due to work ( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥́⌢⚈̥̥̥̥̥̀). So, I wanted to do something special, and I ended up choosing a yakatabune (houseboat)! I was really looking forward to riding it after such a long time.
When we entered the yakatabune, there were name tags placed. For some reason, our names were in English, but it was actually nice because the English menu included the history of the yakatabune (´∀`*). Beer was served around the time of departure! I skipped lunch for the evening, so it was perfect! The food was delicious, and I was very satisfied!
There are two stopping points. The first one was for about 10 minutes with the Tokyo Skytree in the background. The next stop was at Odaiba for about an hour. We could take a lot of photos there. During that time, the crew members told us about various landmarks and brought us freshly fried tempura! There were about five types, but the anago (conger eel) was especially delicious♡
There was a show partway through, featuring a lion dance and nankin tamasudare (a traditional performance). I had only seen nankin tamasudare on TV, so it was really fun! It was interactive, and everyone got really excited, creating a friendly atmosphere. People from overseas, elderly guests, and children all seemed to be having a great time.
With delicious food, plenty of drinks, and a pleasant breeze from the windows, it turned into a wonderful night. It was impressive that my husband, who usually doesn't express his feelings much, kept saying how much he enjoyed it! I definitely want to come again!

I participated with a friend and my friend's son (a first grader).
When we gathered at the meeting place, we noticed a few foreign visitors who were also in Japan. There were five groups of participants on the boat. The interior of the boat was very clean, and it was nice to sit in chairs instead of on tatami mats. With about 20 participants, we were able to enjoy the spaciousness both inside the boat and on the deck.
The meal was luxurious, featuring sashimi, steamed clams, tempura, and more, with portions so generous that we couldn't finish everything. During the trip, a small boat came alongside our yakatabune and sold us boiled clams. I bought some as souvenirs, and they were delicious.
The weather was nice, allowing us to enjoy the outdoor scenery. The view from the boat was great, and we docked near the Rainbow Bridge and close to Tokyo Skytree, where we could enjoy the scenery from the deck as well. Although it was quite warm during the day, it got a bit chilly at night, so I thought it would have been good for the child to have an extra layer.
Surprisingly, the elementary school student didn't get bored, and both adults and children were very satisfied with the experience.
Dear Mari,
Thank you for boarding on April 25th (Saturday). I'm glad to hear that you were satisfied with the yakatabune, especially with the moderate number of guests and the favorable weather.
It seems that recently, many Japanese people are using yakatabune to guide foreign visitors to enjoy the night views of Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree. We also offer dishes that allow you to enjoy Nippon.
Additionally, I believe that the lunch cruise offers a different experience, as you can see distant scenery better than at night. If you have the opportunity, please give it a try.

We participated as a family. We were blessed with good weather, and the night view from Harumi towards Tokyo Skytree was wonderful. The food was, of course, luxurious, and the tempura, sashimi, and takikomi gohan were all incredibly delicious. It was satisfying for both my parents in their 70s and for us as a couple. Since it was all-you-can-drink, we ended up drinking a bit too much. I heard that every weekend, there are fireworks in Odaiba for 20 minutes, and we were lucky enough to see them this time. Watching the fireworks from the yakatabune was extraordinary and the best experience. On days with fireworks, the course lasts for two and a half hours. The staff were friendly and very kind, creating a comfortable atmosphere. We were able to get along with other customers on board and had a wonderful time. I would love to participate again if the opportunity arises.

i went with my friends from US and they were very sartisfied with Japanese traditional food & sake.
Also there was Tokyo bay fire work held at that day and we enjoyed it from the top roof of the ship.
It was in total a greater experience than our expectation.

I previously took a yakatabune cruise in the summer where we enjoyed all-you-can-eat monjayaki, but this time it was winter. I wondered how it would be, and it turned out to be a great choice with hot pot and tempura! We even got to enjoy the night view and fireworks! It became a wonderful memory for the end of the year.
■ From the station to boarding
It took about 2-3 minutes to walk from Kachidoki Station, and after crossing the bridge, it was easy to find the meeting place as there were many people gathered. I confirmed the boat with the staff from Harumiya, and boarding started about 15 minutes before departure. We were able to smoothly enter the boat after placing our shoes in the shoe box.
■ Meal
There were name cards on the table, and the food was already prepared. As soon as I sat down, a chilled bottle of beer was brought to me. The sashimi and hot pot were delicious, and the tempura was served fresh and crispy! I was very happy. After rice and pickles, there were fruits and shiratama dessert as well. I was completely full.
■ Fireworks and night view
That day, there were fireworks for the last time this year, and we could enjoy them up close for 10 minutes starting at 7 PM. It was cold on the sky deck, and I was shivering, but the sky was clear and beautiful. The night view of Odaiba, the neon lights of the yakatabune, and the Rainbow Bridge were mesmerizing, and it was very soothing.
■ Service
After enjoying everything, about 30 minutes before the end, the staff came around to greet each table. There were guests celebrating recovery from illness and passing exams, and at the end, we received a gift from Harumiya. I heard that if you inform them in advance, you can receive special services for anniversaries. I thought I would like to use this for family anniversaries or dining gatherings with friends next time.

I don't usually write reviews, but this was really great. I went with a group of friends, and everyone had lots of fun. The hostess spoke perfect English, and was so welcoming. She explained everything (about the sights, food, drinks) in both English and Japanese. The fresh tempura was really good, and they kept the drinks coming!
We were super lucky too, because in December (on Saturdays) there are fireworks. If you can go on a Saturday in December, I really recommend it. Make sure you go out onto the roof, because seeing all the colorful boats on the water was really pretty.
Thank you, we hope to come back again.

I took my first ride on a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat). It wasn't planned, but it happened to be just before Christmas. I thought yakatabune was mainly for enjoying the food, but I had no idea the illuminated night views could be so beautiful!
You can leisurely enjoy the Christmas-lit Rainbow Bridge, Fuji Television, and Tokyo Skytree from the boat. At photo spots, you can go up to the deck and have the stunning Tokyo illuminations all to yourself! It felt much more elegant than going to see the illuminations in the crowded Odaiba.
Of course, I was very satisfied with the food as well. After the kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal) and hot pot, we had freshly fried tempura! Although the boat was full, the staff efficiently served the freshly fried tempura one dish at a time. The portions were generous, enough to satisfy even men. It was really delicious, but I ended up leaving one dish because of the volume. I'm sorry...
Perhaps because it was the year-end party season, the boat was full. There were families, couples, and girls' gatherings, as well as tourists from Canada and Singapore. I was also impressed by the tour guide, who alternated between fluent Japanese and English, wearing a hachimaki (headband)! The powerful English spoken by the lively Edo-style lady was so impressive that it could be considered a highlight of the experience.
At the end, they sang a birthday song in perfect English for a guest celebrating their birthday, which was spectacular!
I boarded the yakatabune with expectations, and it truly exceeded them! I can recommend this to family, friends, and everyone.

We participated with our family of four, all of us experiencing a yakatabune for the first time, and we were excited about this unknown adventure.
The route for the day included spots like the Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and Odaiba. The view from the boat was, of course, wonderful, but the interesting trivia shared by the staff added to the enjoyment.
The food was plentiful, featuring sashimi and tempura, and it was quite filling. As a family that tends to eat a lot, we were a bit concerned about the portion sizes, but it turned out to be unnecessary worry. With an all-you-can-drink option, I enjoyed some alcohol while my family was very satisfied with juice.
There was also a birthday celebration for one of the participants, and a boat selling ice cream made an appearance, adding to the fun events of the day.
Most importantly, the staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. My son has a food allergy, and I consulted them about it right after boarding. They responded kindly on the spot and even checked the details just to be safe. When my son mentioned wanting to eat rice with his other dishes, they quickly understood and prepared the rice for him in advance. They provided various other services as well, always with a smile, which we greatly appreciated.
I’ve written a lot, but the best part of the day was seeing my son, with a camera around his neck and holding chopsticks and juice in both hands, exclaiming with a big smile, "This yakatabune is the best!!"
It was a thoroughly satisfying two and a half hours that flew by.

Since I had never boarded a yakatabune before, I was so excited about trying it.
It took me about a five-minute walk from the station to the boat boarding area.
On boarding the boat, I was greeted by young high-spirited ladies wearing a towel around their heads. I was impressed by their cheerful greetings both in Japanese and English.
I enjoyed beer and delicious dish right away. They cooked Tempura on the boat. Freshly fried tempura was served.
We were able to stop by tourist spots and enjoy the view from the boat at Odaiba. It was a good us to choose this day ,because the weather was great and we really enjoyed it!
A wide range of people were on board, there were tourists from Tokyo, the locals and travelers from overseas that were all introduced by a friendly young lady which made the vibe very lively on board!
It was nothing like just taking a ordinary boat, instead, it was as if signing up for a Japanese house boat tour with a tour guide on board. I'll definitely use the service again when next time my friend visit Tokyo!

To celebrate a birthday, we joined this cruise with two small kids. We could see the Christmas lights in Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree. Also we enjoyed fireworks in Odaiba. We had freshly cooked Tempura and drinks as much as we wanted. All of us were very satisfied. It was a dream day out!
<Meeting Point>
In the morning, “Harumiya” called me and we could confirm the meeting point and time so we did not have any worry about it. There were staff wearing happi coats in front of the pier.Boarding started about 15 minutes before sailing time.
<Ship>
There were two rows of sunken kotatsu tables. Families, couples, small groups shared the boat. We were close to each other, and immediately got along with the people around, it was a harmonious atmosphere.
<Meals and Drinks>
The starter was a Kaiseki meal, then Japanese Nabe. A variety of Tempuras were served. Everything was delicious. The freshly cooked Tempura was the best since it was very cold mid-winter. For the passenger aged under 5 years old there were no meal served,however, parents could share their meals because of the volume of food. There were a lot of choices in drinks, all included in the ticket price.
<Night Scenery>
The night scenery from Tokyo Bay is really beautiful. When the ship stops, you can climb up to the sky deck, and take in the magnificent view. It was during the Christmas illumination period, so Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Fuji TV main office, and Tokyo Sky Tree all lighted up in Christmas mode. I just happened to see the fireworks of Odaiba which are held on Saturdays!
<Service>
The staff of the houseboat was amiable. Going out with small children is often troublesome. However, this houseboat excursion was very good. Staff was welcoming to small kids and entertained them. Parents could relax and enjoy the event.
Initially I was worried about the houseboat trip in winter. But it was great. I would like to go again in warmer weather.

We participated in a family birthday celebration with our two children. In addition to the Christmas illuminations at Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree, we also got to see the fireworks at Odaiba. With freshly fried tempura and all-you-can-drink options, everyone in the family was completely satisfied and full. It was truly a little luxury!
<Meeting Place>
On the morning of the event, I received a call from Harumiya to confirm the meeting place and time, which made me feel at ease about participating. Since many yakatabune (traditional Japanese boats) depart from the same dock, you can't board early. There is a staff member from Harumiya wearing a happi coat in front of the dock, where you check in and confirm your seating. Boarding starts about 15 minutes before departure.
<Onboard>
There are two rows of sunken kotatsu tables. Families with children like ours, couples, small groups, and employees from a company in Ibaraki all share the space, which creates a close-knit atmosphere where everyone gets along and enjoys a friendly vibe.
<Food & Drinks>
Initially, a full kaiseki meal is set up, and around the time we finish the hot pot, freshly fried tempura is served one type at a time. Everything is delicious, but the freshly fried, piping hot tempura is exceptional! Eating hot dishes in the warm cabin under the cold winter sky feels special. Children aged 0 to 5 do not receive meals, but there is enough food to share from the parents' dishes. The all-you-can-drink menu is also extensive, and I enjoyed the night view of Odaiba with a glass of wine in hand.
<Night View>
The night view of Tokyo from Tokyo Bay is truly beautiful. While docked, you can go up to the sky deck on the second floor and enjoy an unobstructed view. Since it was during the Christmas illuminations, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Fuji TV headquarters, and Tokyo Skytree were all lit up for the holiday, and experiencing a "Japanese-style Christmas" from the yakatabune was wonderful. We were also lucky to see the Odaiba fireworks, which happened to be taking place on that Saturday, from the sky deck.
<Service>
The staff provided a lively and pleasant service with a down-to-earth Tokyo vibe. Going to restaurants can be daunting with small children, but this yakatabune welcomes kids, and the staff made sure to keep them entertained, allowing parents to relax and enjoy.
I was wondering what winter on a yakatabune would be like, but it turned out to be a great decision. I would love to participate again in a refreshing season!
<船内>
<夜景>
