Toshie Masubuchi was a wealth of knowledge in Kintsugi, as well as being a warm and detailed teacher throughout the lesson. This was my first time engaging in this art form and Toshi was prepared to teach with detailed handouts (in English), thorough verbal descriptions and visual hands-on examples at each step.
She welcomed me into her art space with a hot cup of tea on a cold morning and was patient and helpful during the entire lesson. I will treasure the memories of this class and recommend them to anyone visiting Tokyo.

I was interested in a kintsugi workshop and participated. They even prepared tea and snacks, allowing us to choose our pottery while learning the kintsugi process through conversation. I also received a list of necessary items to do it myself in the future. The instructor was very kind and taught us in a pleasant manner. When I attended, there was another person from Australia, and we enjoyed chatting while working together, and we returned home together. I believe that even foreigners can participate without any issues.

My partner and I were excited to engage in a traditional activity during our trip to Japan. We stumbled on Kuge Crafts on a prominent publication and decided to book, and we were not disappointed. The owners, who have been practising this craft for 40+ years, welcomed us into their home with tea and Japanese treats. The class was an intimate one, with only 4 people at a time, allowing for a more personal experience and ability to ask lots of questions and get a hands on experience. The activity was not rushed, the ceramics provided were very interesting and antique, and they even provided proper packaging to survive the trip home!

I enjoyed a delightful afternoon with Yoshiichiro and Yoshiko in their studio. They were so welcoming, treating us to delicious tea and cake as the Kintsugi workshop started. They were extremely helpful, showing us how to do each step but ensuring that we actually did our own project. They also provided detailed information on the materials we would need to buy in order to do our own Kintsugi repairs at home. I highly recommend this workshop!

The class was incredibly fun and informative, and taught by two very patient and knowledgeable instructors. They were welcoming, and immediately made us feel right at home. Neither my husband nor I are very creative, but they were very supportive and encouraging and we had a very fun afternoon. The activity itself was very soothing and relaxing. It was also very clear that they are very proud of their craft and hope to see people continue to try it at home, as they showed us the exact product to buy if we wanted to continue to practice. They even told us it would be OK if we reached out after the class if we had any questions, and to email them pictures of things we are working on should we try kintsugi at home. Highly, highly recommend this class :)

Yoshiko sensei is so kind and a master at her craft. Loved learning from her and her husband in their little studio. She gave great pointers, where to buy supplies to continue the practice, and is very happy to answer any questions even in email afterwards. I brought a cracked teapot in hopes she could advise me on how to fix it, but she helped me fix it for a small fee during class! It was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon immersed in a Japanese artistry not known by many. Only tip is that it’s difficult to call an Uber at this location, may need to make sure to make other commute arrangements!

This was a wonderful and insightful Kintsugi class. Yoshiko and Yoschiichiro made me feel very welcome, taught me a lot in a short amount of time (despite my very limited Japanese) and helped me repair a personal object I had brought. I feel well equipped to continue kintsugi at home now, but still look forward to another class next time I’m in Tokyo! There’s still so much to learn and I had such a nice time being part of their warm, peaceful community!

Out of all of the activities we have done in Japan, this has turned to be the best one we have done! The owners are a married couple and both have been so nice and sweet. The whole activity is very immersive and we didn't notice that 2 hours have went by so fast! They also served us sweets and tea before starting and they were all so delicious! I even had 5 refills of the tea.
On our next trip to Japan, we will for sure come by again to see you!
Thank you very much for taking part in making our trip unforgetful.

This experience exceeded my expectations from start to finish. Delicious treats and all our supplies were laid out in the small studio. We were warmly welcomed, received interesting historic perspective, and coached on all the steps in a simple repair process. Our hosts thought of everything, shared lots of media coverage about their work, gave clear instructions, helpful samples, and demonstrations. I was able to repair a beloved piece (pre-approved by photo and email) and also purchased some antique (not broken) pieces. Brilliant set up for travelling home without marring the piece!

This was the most calming and grounding experience, a total contradiction to a typical day in Tokyo. Yoshiko and Yoshiichiro welcome you into the small street facing studio with home made cake, local treats and freshly brewed tea. Occasionally there is the odd call out from their cat that makes the experience so homely and real that you know you are getting a legitimate immersion into a part of Japanese art and culture.
The class is hands on and Yoshiko makes sure you leave with all the tools you need to keep practicing after you leave the class. She also gives you insights into Japanese culture that are inaccessible to the average visitor.
If you are someone who likes to get under the skin of a city or country, and you like to get off the tourist track to truly start to get your foot into the door of what a culture is about, this is the class for you.
