Our tour was perfect. it was more fun because of Saturo San and the driver(sorry i forgot the name, but he even gave us a parting gift which he drew himself) treated us not as guests but as friends. they made sure that we are comfortable and they are very knowledgable about the tour and about Japan. Saturo San made sure that he answered all our questions before the tour ends. the only thing is the time in Gotemba outlet, I didn't have enough time for shopping. but it was still ok! will highly recommend this to my family and friends.

it's really convenient and more fun if you have a tour guide and a private van especially when you're travelling with kids.

They came to pick me up by car at the accommodation. I communicated directly over the phone, and the start time was moved up, so we began earlier. The trek ended up being quicker than I imagined, lasting about two hours. They provided a brief explanation about Yakushima and took some photos for me. If I had to say anything, I would have preferred to trek a bit more or spend more time at the sights since it ended early, but I wanted to return early, so it turned out well in the end.

車で宿まで迎えに来てくれました。
直接、電話でやりとりをして、始まりの時間が早まって、スタートしました。
想像以上に早く終わって、トレッキングは二時間程度。
簡単な屋久島についての説明や、写真撮影などしてもらいました。
強いていうなら、早く終わるならもう少しトレッキングしたり、名所でゆっくりしたかったですが、早く帰りたかったので結果的に良かったです。

The pace was a bit fast, but I understood that it was necessary to complete it in 10 hours, so for those who want to challenge themselves at their own pace, I think having a personal guide would be better. Since they consider the needs of each individual, I recommend getting a guide for anyone who feels even a little anxious.

He knew so much and was such a bright and energetic person; I had a lot of fun.
When I go trekking again, I definitely want to request him!
The miso soup he made for us during lunch was really delicious.

I think those who are going soon can go with peace of mind.
Besides the bento, I think it's good to bring snacks like chocolate, but having something you can eat while walking, like in your pocket, is convenient.

It was tough to wake up early in the morning, but it was worth it!
There were six of us: the two of us, a group of three women, and our guide. The guide explained the attractions at various points, adjusted the pace for us, and took photos, which made us very satisfied.
I will never forget the view when the sun came out while we were climbing the mountain, with the morning sunlight streaming in.
One thing I was unhappy about was when the tour company called the day before and complained that we hadn’t called them, and even though I rented a flashlight because they said it was necessary, we didn’t use it at all, and the guide didn’t mention needing it either.

早朝で起きるのが大変でしたが、それだけの価値がありました！
私たち二人と、女性3人組、ガイドさんの6人でしたが、ガイドさんが所々で魅力を説明して下さり、ペースも合わせながら登り、写真も撮って頂いてとても満足でした。

On the way back, the rain stopped for a short while, and a little light shone through. We had a fabulous tour of Tokyo with Tom as our guide! He was so kind, informative, and interesting. He picked us up at the cruise port right on time and showed us as many highlights of Tokyo as we had time for, and we loved them all. We saw a really nice variety of Buddhist temple, Shinto shrine, Imperial palace as well as more modern shopping and government districts. We had a great driver too who dropped us off close to whereever we were going. Tom was flexible about our needs. We requested one of the department store food halls for lunch, and he took us to a great one and found a nice rooftop area for us to eat at. It was so fun to have Tom guide us through the hall and explain the food to us. After the trip, Tom sent us all pictures and a journal of the day—so thoughtful! We loved Tokyo and Tom and can’t wait to return and schedule more tours with him!

An experience to remember!

Tom, our tour guide was simply fabulous. He arrived at our hotel on time and had a driver with him. He explained our plan for the day and asked if we wanted to alter anything. It was raining that day so he suggested an alternate tour so we can get the most out of the experience. Instead of going to the Pagoda to view Mt Fuji ( which wouldn’t happen because of the fog and rain), we decided to visit the natural ice cave and wind cave instead. It was such an adventure and me and my girlfriends had so much fun. We then went to an authentic tic Japanese restaurant for lunch by the lake, did the ropeway, went to a Sakw brewery and finished off with a bath at the hot springs. If tpu’re thinking of a day trip to MT Fuji, hiring Tom is the only way to go! And he spoke perfect English :)

The guide was very kind. A typhoon was approaching, and the weather was bad. Before the tour started, the guide asked us multiple times if we still wanted to participate, but since it was the main purpose of this trip, I insisted on going for it! However, due to the overwhelming chaos of the stream, we had to turn back midway. The mountain road we took on the way there was so rough that it was impassable on the way back. Without the guide, we might not have made it back safely.

The moss soaked in rain was truly beautiful, and at the same time, I felt the wonder of nature, experiencing the stillness and movement of the mountains. It was my first time walking in such a stormy rain (laughs). Unfortunately, we couldn't reach Taiko Rock, but I am really grateful to the guide for providing such a valuable experience. I definitely want to participate again next time.

For those who will be joining soon! Even if the forecast predicts clear weather, I highly recommend bringing rain gear. I rented both rain gear and shoes. Also, I prepared special socks to bring along, which I think was a good decision.

Due to the impact of the typhoon, standard tours to see Jomon Sugi were all canceled because of fallen trees, but this tour not only allows you to cross the mountains to see Jomon Sugi, but also visit Shiratani Unsuikyo (including places like the Forest of Mononoke and Taiko Rock) all in one day, which is truly amazing. The guide mentioned, "It's inefficient and a waste to stay in mountain lodges or split the trip over multiple days when you can do it all in one day," and after participating in the tour, I completely agreed. Before departure, I had concerns about the early morning start and my physical stamina, but once I was there, I realized that a day in the forest goes by quickly, so you really need to start early to enjoy it fully. The guide also skillfully adjusted the walking pace, so although it was challenging, I managed to complete it. Above all, the memories after the tour, along with the bath, meals, and drinks back at the accommodation, were exceptional! This was my first time participating, but due to heavy rain, Shiratani Unsuikyo was closed, and I couldn't see Taiko Rock, which I was looking forward to. It might be unavoidable because of the weather, but there was no refund. I thought I would at least enjoy the tour to Jomon Sugi, but the guide's response was very disappointing.
- While other groups were taking breaks regularly, we did not take any.
- Even though there was someone in our group with a foot injury, one person went ahead without providing any care.
- I wanted to take photos, but I was hurried to move forward quickly. It felt like they wanted to get back as soon as possible.
I also felt envious watching the guides from other groups properly explain the highlights.

楽しみにしていた太鼓岩は見られませんでした。

The beginning of the climb was under a cloudy sky. However, it turned into heavy rain along the way. Although I managed to reach the forest of Princess Mononoke, unfortunately, I had to give up on Taiko Rock and turn back. The path I had taken on the way there had turned into a river on the way back. The babbling stream had transformed into a muddy torrent. It's a shame I couldn't go to Taiko Rock, but the scenery of Shiratani Unsuikyo in the rain was mystical and beautiful. I felt reassured on the way back because I had a guide with me. Thank you, Watanabe-san.

I utilized a half-day trekking tour during the three-day weekend in late September.

ツアーが行われるか不安になりながら、連絡先に引き続き連絡すると、12時過ぎにようやく電話が繋がりました。ツアーは予定通り行われるという事を確認し、安心したところその後すぐぐらいに担当のガイドさんから連絡が来ました。
担当のガイドさんは60代後半のパワフルな方。「午前中も半日コースのトレッキングを案内して来た、島内なら〇〇を見たら良いよ、食べたらいいよ」などと入口までの車の中で色々教えてくださりました。ただ…やはり、少しお疲れだったのかトレッキング中は先導はしてくださりますが、特に説明などなく黙々と進み、所々で写真を撮ってくださる感じ。帰りに至っては私たちが離れているのも気づかないぐらい黙々と前を歩いてらっしゃいました。
「いい方だったけど、疲れてたんだろうね。ちょっと残念」などと話ながら夕食を食べていると、運営の方から電話があり、「今日のツアーはどのような物だったのか」と唐突に聞かれました。「何度も連絡し、なかなか繋がらなかったので不安だったが、昼過ぎにようやく連絡がつき、無事案内していただけた」と答えると「電話中や対応中の場合は電話に出られない場合がある」と謝るでもなく言い訳をなさったので、「そうだとするとおかしなぐらいお電話は長いコールを何度も何度もしました」と伝えると「そうですか」との返事。謝らずそのまま話は進み、「今日のツアーの集計（？）をしていると、レンタルと書いてあるのにされた形跡がなく、デスクに連絡したら帰っていて繋がらないのでガイドに連絡したら装備していたのでそのままガイドした、と聞いた。どういう事か」と聞かれたため、前述の内容を伝えました。しかし、結局何度も同じ話のループとなり、痺れが切れたので「結局私はこのお電話を貰って何をする事を求められているのでしょうか」と伺うと「確認をしたかった」との返事。それまでに10分以上話をしており、「今夕食中なのでそれなら電話を切ってもいいですか」と聞くと、「構いません」とのことでした。

正直とても気分が悪かったです。
二日目は違う所でガイドをお願いしており、とても気持ち良い対応で楽しかったので、余計に差を感じました。

The view from Taiko Rock was amazing, with great weather allowing us to see the mountains and the sea of Yakushima! The guide controlled the pace, which helped manage fatigue, and it was nice to have fewer other customers in the early morning. If I could wish for anything, I would love to go trekking again on a sunny day after rain when the moss is more wet and sparkling. I highly recommend this course!

The trekking this time was uncertain due to heavy rain until the day before, and I wasn't sure if we could enter the mountain until we arrived at the site. By the way, entry was prohibited the day before. Feeling anxious, when we arrived, we were told it was okay to enter, and I couldn't help but do a fist pump. Our guide, Mr. Akuzawa, was incredibly knowledgeable, far beyond what you would expect from someone with only two years of guiding experience, and trekking while listening to his explanations about Yakushima made it twice or three times more enjoyable. I was also grateful that he took pictures of the two of us at key points. Having only climbed mountains around 400 meters before, the 1,400-meter elevation of the Taiko Rock course in Shiratani Unsuikyo was quite tough, but when I finally reached the top and saw a glimpse of clear skies, I truly felt the joy of trekking. I breathed in the fresh air at the summit, gazed at Mount Miyanoura in the distance, and absorbed the power of Yakushima as we began our descent. It took about three hours to go up and two hours to come back down, and looking back, it was quite hard, but I’m really glad I participated in this tour. I am grateful to Mr. Akuzawa for his support!

今回のトレッキングは、前日までの大雨もあり、現地に行かないと入山出来るかどうかわからない状態でした。ちなみに前日は入山禁止でした。不安を抱きながら現地に行くと、入山OKとの事で思わずガッツポーズが出ました。ガイドについてくれた阿久澤さんが、ガイド歴2年とは思えない程知識豊富な方で、屋久島の説明を聞きながらのトレッキングは2倍も3倍も楽しめました。又、要所要所で2人の写真を撮ってくれたのが有り難かったです。今まで400m程の山しか登った事がなかったので、白谷雲水峡の太鼓岩コースの標高1400mはかなりきつかったのですが、ようやく登り切り晴れ間ものぞいた時には、改めてトレッキングの良さを感じました。頂上で美味しい空気を沢山吸い、遠くに宮之浦岳をのぞみ、屋久島のパワーを沢山吸収して下山に向かいました。行きは3時間、帰りは2時間程かかり、振り返るとかなりハードでしたが、このツアーに参加して本当に良かったです。サポートしてくれた阿久澤さんに感謝しております！

Travelling with young kids, this tour suited us as we didn’t want to feel rushed or pressured if we joined a bus tour.
