Even for someone like me who doesn't usually exercise, I was able to fully enjoy the scenery thanks to the guide's thoughtful breaks, a comfortable walking pace, and engaging stories. Since we departed early, we didn't encounter other hikers on the way up, allowing us to stroll leisurely without worrying about our surroundings. Although it rained on the day of our hike and the view from Taiko Rock was different from what I had imagined, it was still so wonderful that I could appreciate it as part of nature. I debated whether to hike individually or join a tour, but having the guide's insights made the experience much more enjoyable, likely many times more than if I had gone alone.

実際、私の参加時も終始雨時々曇り、時々晴れ間、みたいな天気が続いておりました。台風がなければまた違うのかもしれませんが、雨がよく降る島という情報は得ていたので、通常運転の屋久島お天気事情だったのだと解釈しています。
それでも、苔生す森の中を歩いていると涼しげで歩いているだけで楽しかったです。
疲れは当然後からついてきますが、人生でそう何回も行かないであろう屋久島でトレッキングができた経験はステキなものでした。

We shared a ride with another group to the trailhead, but the guide didn't introduce themselves. Even when the trek began, they walked silently without looking back. At first, I thought that was just how it was, but the guides from the other group were providing clear guidance and discussing points to consider while walking.

I participated in a three-day trip to Yakushima on the third day. I wanted to not only visit Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo but also explore various places on the island, so I chose an early morning course to make the most of my time.

The meeting time was communicated by the guide the day before. (In my case, it was 5:45 AM in the lobby. It seems to vary depending on the number of participants and the weather.)

During the drive, I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise while having breakfast as we headed to the entrance of Shiratani Unsuikyo. I boldly signed up for a greedy course tour to visit Shiratani Unsuikyo and Jomon Sugi in Yakushima for the first time in one day. I’m not particularly fit, and my climbing experience is limited to just two low mountains... While I had expectations, my anxiety was greater. However, I was fortunate with the weather, and I was able to enjoy walking for about 11 hours while learning various things from our guide!! I was moved by everything!! During my 2-night, 3-day trip, I wanted to visit Shiratani Unsuikyo, so I used a tour. The nature of Yakushima is amazing. The scale is so vast that it made me realize how small I am, haha.

The guide who accompanied us provided detailed explanations about the trees, plants, and often overlooked points. Also, when you think of Shiratani Unsuikyo, you think of Studio Ghibli's "Princess Mononoke," right? In fact, that's one of the reasons I was drawn to visit, and the guide thoroughly explained that as well. I was very satisfied!

When descending, we retraced our steps, but the scenery changes quite a bit, so it never gets boring. Additionally, it can be affected by the weather, but for example, the view after a rain shower when the sun shines through is simply too beautiful...

And during our descent, I was lucky enough to encounter a Yakushima deer! I really hope you get to experience this emotion!

2泊3日の旅行で、白谷雲水峡に行ってみたいなと思いツアーを利用しました。屋久島の自然って凄いですね。スケールがとても大きくて、自分がどれだけちっぽけな存在なのかを思い知らされました笑
今回案内していただいたガイドさんも、木や植物、見落としがちなポイント等について丁寧に解説してくれました。また、白谷雲水峡と言えばスタジオジブリの「もののけ姫」ですよね！実は私もそれが気になって足を運んだというのもありますが、それについてもガイドさんが1つ1つしっかりと解説してくれました。とても満足です！
下山する時は来た道を戻るわけですが、景色が随分と変わるので飽きません。また、天候にも左右されますが、例えば雨が一降りした後に日が差し込んだ時の景色と言ったら何とも美し過ぎて・・・
そして下山中に、運良くヤクシカにも出会うことができました！

It seems that the availability of rental items depends on the area where you stay, and since I didn't know which area of Yakushima my hotel was in, I submitted the hotel name for the request. I thought I would receive a response via email about whether I could rent the items, but I never heard back. I also wanted a different route than the one listed, but there was no response to that either. A few days ago, I decided to call, and they told me that I couldn't rent from my accommodation. When I asked what I should do, they said, "Find it yourself." I had made the reservation a month in advance... When I asked why there was no reply, they said, "It's written on the website, so there's no need to contact you." I thought they could at least introduce me to somewhere else. When I inquired about the reverse route, I was told, "We still don't know. It might not be implemented." I was planning to switch to another tour if the reverse route was not available, but the response a few days ago that they didn't know was very troubling.

In the end, they said, "We will implement the reverse route," but there was another issue on the day of the tour. Due to the location of the hotel I was staying at, I was placed in the regular route team instead of the reverse route team. Moreover, this guide had absolutely no hospitality. There was no time to take photos, and even when I stumbled and was crouching down, they didn't come back to help. They were just a mere guide who only cared about time and went ahead without waiting for anyone. They did provide explanations as a guide, but their voice was too quiet, and they spoke without waiting for the last person, making it almost impossible to hear.

Additionally, due to the rain, we ended up not going to Shiratani Unsuikyo and instead had the regular Jomon Sugi tour, but the price remained the same. It was truly the worst tour. I strongly recommend avoiding this company.

レンタル品が泊まる地域によって借りれたり、借りれなかったりするようで、今回泊まるホテルが、屋久島のどの地域かわからないので、ホテル名を入れて申請。メールでレンタル品が借りれるかどうか返事がくるかと思えば一切来ない。また、記載のルートととは別ルートを希望していたが、その返事も来ない。仕方がないので数日前にこちらから電話をしてみたところ、今回の宿泊先では貸してもらえないとの返事。ではどうしたら？と聞けば「自分で探してくれ」とのこと。1ヶ月も前に予約しているのに・・。なぜ返信が無いのかと聞くと「HPに書いているから連絡する必要なし」という言い方だった。せめてどこか紹介してくれればいいのにと思った。また、逆ルート希望についても問い合わせしたところ、「まだわからない。実施されないかもしれない」との返事。逆ルートがダメなら他のツアーにするつもりだったが、数日前にどちらかわからないとの返事には非常に困った。
最終的には「逆ルート実施します」となったが、当日またひと悶着。泊っているホテルの場所の加減で、逆ルートチームではなく、通常ルートチームに組み込まれた。しかもこのガイドにホスピタリティー全くなし。写真を撮る時間は無いは、コケてうずくまっていても助けに戻ってくることもない。時間だけを気にして自分だけが先に行ってしまう単なる道案内人。一応ガイドとして説明するが、歯が抜けていることと声が小さいことと、一番最後の人を待たないで話しするので殆ど聞き取れない。
しかも雨で結局、白谷雲水峡には行かず、通常の縄文杉ツアーとなり、価格はそのまま。
本当に最悪なツアーでした。
この会社は絶対やめた方が良い。

I participated with a female friend. On the way there, we walked slowly, stopping here and there to talk about the Yakusugi trees and moss, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Kumoi Gorge. In the moss-covered forest, they had just the right items prepared for us, which really boosted our spirits. And above all, the view from Taiko Rock was absolutely stunning! I had participated in the Yakusugi trekking two days prior, and it was amazing to look down at the course we took and feel a sense of accomplishment. For those who are going, I definitely recommend doing the Yakusugi trekking followed by the Kumoi Gorge trekking! On the way back, we even encountered Yakuzaru monkeys. Since we took our time on the way there, we were able to pick up the pace on the return trip, which was great. Thank you very much!

I wanted to try trekking for the first time in Yakushima, so I signed up for the early morning trek at Shiratani Unsuikyo. Although it was early, with a pickup from the hotel just after 5 AM, there were few people around, and the air was clear, allowing me to fully enjoy nature. It was a three-day trip to Yakushima starting from Marine Day in July! On the second day, I wanted to fully enjoy the nature of Yakushima and considered joining the Jomon Sugi tour, but I wasn't confident in my physical strength or stamina, so I participated in the shorter Shiratani Unsuikyo and Taiko Rock tour.

The tour we joined started early in the morning, so we were able to return by lunchtime and could even participate in activities on the final day. We were very satisfied as we could effectively use our time in the afternoon.

Taiko Rock was our final destination, but there were many attractions along the way, and the guide made regular stops for breaks, allowing us to enjoy the tour even though we usually lack exercise. The guide was a local born in Yakushima, with extensive knowledge of the mountains and plants, and also shared information about delicious local restaurants. They were well-versed in Studio Ghibli as well and pointed out various spots that reminded us of anime characters.

I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to visit both Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo, or for those who want to make the most of their final day! It was a fantastic tour with a great guide, and we were very satisfied!

It was a long, long journey to Yakusugi, but the people in my group were all very nice, and we were able to encourage each other to reach our destination. The guide was a good person, but... he didn't wait for people and just kept moving ahead. He didn't seem to care about participants who were struggling to walk due to cramps, while other group guides were offering advice and support. It's disappointing because ensuring safety should be part of a guide's job. Other than that, it was very good.

屋久杉まで長い長い道のりでしたが一緒のグループの方々がとてもよい人ばかりで励ましながら到着できました。
ガイドさんはいい人でしたが、、、あまり人を待たずどんどん行ってしまうし、足をつって歩けない担当の参加者もお構いなしで声をかけることなくどんどん行ってしまいました。(他のグループのガイドさんが足を伸ばしたり、アドバイスをくれていました)

I filled my water bottle with cold stream water and spring water—what a refreshing experience! Everything I saw felt like a different world. It turned out to be a very satisfying trip to Yakushima. By the way, I’m also an old man (laughs). The next day, I was left with the pleasant aftereffects of muscle soreness all over my body, making it a memorable journey.

While looking at various tour reviews, I participated again with Veltra. The actual guide was a person named W from Kumage Transport, which is commissioned by Michi no Eki Kankou. When we arrived on the island, we were supposed to make a confirmation call, and the guide was supposed to call us the day before, but I was in the mountains until late in the evening the day before, so I couldn't connect. Just when I was worried about what to do, the guide kindly called the accommodation directly and connected us.

The guide W who came on the day was quite elderly, which made me a bit anxious, but that worry was unfounded. He had incredible leg strength, knowledge about plants, endurance, a wonderful personality, and a wealth of information about nature and the culture of Yakushima, making it feel like I was walking with a "sage." 様々なツアーの評価を見ながら今回もveltraさんで参加しました。実際のガイドさんは道の駅観光さん（が委託している熊毛運輸さん？）のWさんという方でした。島についたら確認電話をし、前日にガイドから確認電話がくるというものでしたが、前日夕方遅くまで山にいたため、電話は繋がらず。どうしようと困っていたらガイドさんが宿に直接電話をかけて繋いでくださり助かりました。
当日いらしたガイドのWさんはかなりご高齢の方で少し不安になりましたが、そんな不安なんのその。とんでもない脚力、植物の情報力、持久力、お人柄、自然への情報量、そして屋久島という島の文化などまるで「仙人」と歩いているような感覚でした。普段山を歩かない都会っ子の我々（３０代と６０代）にも丁寧に歩き方や力の入れ方、ストックの使い方を教えてくださいました。（ご高齢！なんて思って申し訳ありません！私たちの方が全てにおいて劣りすぎていました。。）

お人柄も非常に柔軟で温かく、「ほっほっほ」と笑う笑い方はまさに「仙人様」でした笑。

今、帰ってきて、これを書いていますが、またWさんと山に入りたいです。トレッキングなんてしたことのない私でしたが、本当に本当に素晴らしい経験をさせていただきました。心から感謝します。
