Yeah! My first time in Iriomote! Yeah！初めての西表！

I went to Iriomote Island for the first time and booked a tour to Yubu Island by kayak and water buffalo. In the morning, I experienced kayaking and explored the mangrove forest for about an hour. I really felt the beauty of nature. The staff were very kind and explained everything well, making it a lot of fun! After that, we took a lunch break and then headed to Yubu Island by water buffalo cart! It took about 10 minutes to reach the island, and we enjoyed about an hour on Yubu Island! The gelato from a shop called Yubu Island Chaya was incredibly delicious! I highly recommend the island banana flavor.
初めて西表島に行き、カヤックと水牛で由布島に行くツアーを予約しました。
午前中にカヤック体験をして、マングローブ林を約1時間探索しました。大自然をとても感じられました。スタッフさんも優しく説明してくださり、大変楽しめました！その後、お昼休憩を挟み、水牛車で由布島にレッツゴー！10分ほどで島につき、そこから由布島を1時間ほど楽しみました！由布島茶屋というジェラート屋さんのジェラートがとっても美味しかったです！島バナナが1番のおすすめです。
カヤックは下半身濡れます。着替え必須です！

I visited Iriomote Island for the first time. The kayaking experience surrounded by the magnificent mangrove nature was unforgettable, and the air was so fresh. The companions I experienced it with and the instructor were very warm, and it was truly enjoyable!!! After kayaking, I had goya champuru at Gen Shokudo. It was very soothing for my tired body. The water buffaloes were so cute and provided a relaxing time. It's only about a 50-minute trip from Ishigaki Island, so I highly recommend it!
初めて西表島に来ました。
マングローブの大自然に囲まれたカヤック体験は空気も美味しく忘れられない体験になりました。一緒に体験をした仲間もインストラクターさんもとても温かく本当に楽しかったです！！！カヤックの後は源食堂でゴーヤチャンプルーをいただきました。疲れた体にとても沁みました。水牛はとてもかわいく癒されゆったりした時間過ごせました。石垣島から50分ほどで行けるのでぜひお勧めしたいです！

I participated on January 18th! It was a bit cold in short sleeves, so having something to wear over it would be good! When kayaking, your lower body gets wet up to your underwear, so a change of clothes is essential 😅 After the kayaking experience, you can use a warm shower! I joined a group with other tourists, and it was really fun to chat with everyone! The staff were also kind and provided explanations about the island, which was great! I definitely want to recommend this!

The day before, I received a message about the meeting place and a final confirmation of what to bring. On the day of the activity, the instructor provided detailed explanations, and my mother, who seemed a bit anxious, was kindly guided and quickly got used to it, enjoying herself with a smile.
It seems they also lend out marine coats when it's cold, so you can participate comfortably even in winter. The instructor was very kind to the children as well, allowing them to participate in the activities with peace of mind.

The experience was packed with activities, and we had the best time. We participated as a family of four (with two children).
We started by kayaking out to the beautiful sea. After that, we ventured into the mangroves and felt the wonders of nature, even landing on the mangroves along the way. The kids were fascinated by searching for living creatures. I was also amazed by the high quality of the drone and DSLR photography. I don't think there is another tour with such a rich content...
They taught us how to kayak carefully and provided a lot of explanations about the mangroves. I would love to join the same tour again when I visit Ishigaki Island.

I signed up for the tour on January 4th. I think there were about 20 other guests accompanying me. The guides were all young men, and they were very kind. Even if it's your first time canoeing, it's easy, so I don't think you need to worry. If you're slow at paddling, the guide will wait for you! The view of crossing the sea to Yubu Island was more beautiful than I imagined, and the water buffalo were cute and soothing. I was able to see the large pond where the water buffalo live up close! The ice cream at Yubu Island Tea House on the island is exquisite. You can enjoy tea while looking at the beach. However, since it's a tour, there might be a line due to overlapping timings with other guests, so I recommend going to line up as soon as you arrive on the island.

The canoe experience on the Urauchi River was wonderful, with very clear water. Our guide, Matsushita (nicknamed Macchan), informed us that the area near the river mouth is brackish water, and that the mangroves differ between the riverbanks and the sandbars. The weather was also great that day, with gentle winds, making it the perfect outing.
After lunch, we took a water buffalo cart to Yufu Island. The guide on the water buffalo cart shared that after a natural disaster made the area uninhabitable, an elderly man planted the vegetation that became the foundation of the current botanical garden. It was surprising to see so many flowers blooming in January, and I was lucky enough to capture a photo of a butterfly that came to sip nectar.
During the ride to and from Yufu Island, in addition to explanations about the water buffalo, we were treated to songs played on the sanshin, which made for some wonderful memories. Macchan took care of us during the bus rides, canoeing, and the trip to Yufu Island. I also want to thank Shogo, who guided us on the bus, and everyone who helped with the preparations, as well as the guides on the water buffalo cart. Thank you very much!
浦内川でのカヌー体験は水がとてもキレイでした。河口付近で汽水域との事だったり、
マングローブも河岸と中洲で種類が違うとガイドの松下さん（通称まっちゃん）が教えてくださったり、またこの日は天気も良く、風もさほど強くない穏やかな日で最高でした。
昼食後は水牛の観光車で由布島へ。
自然災害で人が住めなくなった後、お爺さん1人で植物を植え、今の植物園の礎を作ったと水牛車のガイドさんからお話をお聞きしました。1月と思えない程のたくさんの花々が咲いており、ちょうど蝶々が蜜を吸いにやって来たところを運良く写真に収める事ができました。
行き帰りの水牛車では、水牛の説明の他、三線で歌を披露していただいたり、とても良い思い出となりました。
バスの移動時の運転から、カヌー引率、由布島までの移動等、まっちゃんにはお世話になりました。
また、バスでガイドをしてくれたショウゴさんや、準備をしてくださった方々、水牛車ガイド方々にもお世話になりました。

When you look at the scenery with knowledge, the ordinary green forest starts to look like a "living encyclopedia," and it deepens your affection for it, doesn’t it?
The stories from Yubu Island were heartwarming as well. Knowing the history built by the grandfather alone makes the blooming flowers feel even more precious. Capturing the miraculous moment of butterflies sipping nectar on camera was truly a gift from the nature of Iriomote Island to both of you.

The instructor (Macchan) was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about animals and plants. Not only during the canoeing time but also on the bus, we had great conversations, making for a very enjoyable experience!
We took many photos together, and at the end, they sent them to us. Since it's often hard to get pictures of both of us together when there are just two participants, I was really happy to receive them!
It seems there are other experiences available as well, so I definitely want to participate again next time!

I was feeling disappointed after my reservation was canceled the day before due to strong winds with another company, but I found this place and made a reservation on a whim. They welcomed me warmly. Since the location is in a bay, the winds were calm, and I was able to enjoy myself without any issues! I was also nervous because it was my first time trying stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), but they kindly taught me, which made me feel at ease during the experience! It became a wonderful memory. I participated in a mangrove canoe and Yubu Island water buffalo cart tour in early January.
In the morning, we had a canoe experience in the mangrove forest. The strong winds made it quite challenging to paddle at first, but once we entered the mangrove area, the wind was blocked, making it much easier to paddle. Although the weather was unfortunately cloudy, I was able to feel the beauty of nature up close and have an extraordinary experience.
For lunch, we went to an Okinawan restaurant recommended by our guide. My wife had the goya champuru set meal, and I had the Yaeyama soki soba.
In the afternoon, we participated in the Yubu Island water buffalo cart tour. The sun peeked out, and we were able to see tropical plants and animals on Yubu Island, as well as touch the water buffalo and take photos, which was a lot of fun.
We joined this tour as part of our honeymoon, and it was a truly wonderful experience that we will cherish together.

午前中はマングローブ林でのカヌー体験でした。かなりの強風で最初は漕ぐのが大変でしたが、マングローブ林に入ると風が遮断され、漕ぎやすかったです。あいにくの曇天でしたが、大自然を身近に感じながら非日常的な経験ができました。
お昼はガイドの方に教えていただいた沖縄料理の店で妻はゴーヤチャンプル定食、私は八重山ソーキそばを食べました。
午後は由布島水牛車ツアーに参加しました。午後からは晴れ間も見え、由布島で熱帯の動植物を見たり、水牛に触れて写真を撮る体験もでき、非常に楽しめました。

It had been a while since I went kayaking in Ishigaki Island, but it was a fun time with drone photography, and I was able to see small fish from the bottom of the boat. I had photos taken and received the images captured by the drone right on the spot. There was free time during the one-hour session, and I was able to have them edited during that time, and I received them for free as soon as I got out. In late December, I participated in a day trip from Ishigaki Island for a mangrove forest canoeing and buffalo cart tour on Yubu Island.
On the day of the trip, due to rough seas, the Uehara route was canceled, so we took the 7:30 ferry to Ohara Port and used the ferry company's bus to get to Uehara Port. (I heard that cancellations are common during this time of year.)
In the morning, we experienced canoeing in the mangrove forest. The strong winds made paddling difficult, but it felt like a jungle adventure, and it was a truly valuable experience.
For lunch, we went to a restaurant recommended by our guide and filled our stomachs with curry fried rice.
In the afternoon, we headed to Yubu Island. Although the sky was unfortunately cloudy, we enjoyed a performance of the sanshin (a traditional Okinawan instrument) while riding in the buffalo cart. On Yubu Island, we also had the opportunity to interact with the water buffalo, which was very satisfying.
Finally, we were taken back to Ohara Port. We participated as a family with two toddlers, but we thoroughly enjoyed the great nature of Iriomote Island.

12月下旬、石垣島から日帰りでマングローブ林カヌー&由布島水牛車ツアーに参加しました。
当日は時化のため、上原航路は欠航、7:30の便で大原港へ向かい、上原港まではフェリー会社のバスを利用しました。（この時期は欠航になることが多いそう。）
午前中はマングローブ林カヌー体験でした。風が強く漕ぐのが大変でしたがジャングル探検感覚で大変貴重な経験ができました。
お昼はガイドの方に教えていただいたお店へ。カレーチャーハン？でお腹を満たしました。
午後は由布島へ。あいにくの曇り空でしたが水牛車の中では三線の演奏もあり楽しめました。由布島の中では水牛に触って楽しめる体験もでき、大満足でした。
最後は大原港へ送迎していただきました。
幼児2人連れのファミリーでの参加でしたが、西表島の大自然を満喫できました。

In the morning, I experienced canoeing! The wind was strong, making it difficult to paddle, but the staff helped me out, which was a great relief. I also had my 3-year-old and 5-year-old children with me, and they had a lot of fun. We were able to see the mangroves up close, which made for a wonderful experience. I learned that there are various types of mangroves and gained insights into the different adaptations they have for survival.
In the afternoon, we rode water buffalo to Yubu Island. It was my first time being pulled by a water buffalo, and I was moved by their earnestness. The buffalo we had on the way there and back were different, each with their own unique personalities and ways of pulling, which was quite interesting. The sanshin music and singing were also lovely.
Thank you for the transportation service. It was a truly great experience.
午前はカヌー体験しました！風が強く、漕ぐのが大変でしたが、スタッフの方にお手伝いいただき、助かりました。また、3歳と5歳の子どもがいましたが、とっても楽しんでいました。マングローブを間近に見ることができ、とてもいい体験になりました。マングローブも色々な種類があるのですね。生きるための様々な工夫も勉強になりました。
午後は水牛に乗り由布島へ。水牛に初めて引っ張ってもらい、健気な姿に感動しました。行きと帰りで違う子でしたが、性格もそれぞれ違く、引き方もそれぞれ違く、面白かったです。三線と歌も素敵でした。

I experienced stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). I was worried about the strong winds before going, but there were no waves or wind in the inland sea, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. The weather was forecasted to be rainy, but it was cloudy, and I could see clearly down to the bottom of the sea.
The staff were very kind, and I quickly got used to it and was able to stand up and fully enjoy the beautiful sea, which made me very satisfied. They also did drone photography, and the results were even more wonderful than I imagined, which moved me.

It was a cloudy day, but we started snorkeling right on the same property as the hotel we were staying at, and the water was incredibly clear!
Since I live in Okinawa, I love snorkeling during the summer, and it was fun to see beautiful coral reefs and different fish than those found on the main island!
Moreover, within just five minutes of starting, we encountered two sea turtles, which made me really happy! 😳
It was also helpful to have some time to take a break at the hotel and shower!
In the afternoon, we went on the pumpkin tour. It started to rain, and the sea was a bit rough, so paddling in the canoe was quite tiring! 😂 It was challenging to get into the pumpkin cave, but once inside, we were able to climb and experience things we normally wouldn’t, which felt like an adventure!
The final jump was quite nerve-wracking, but it became a great memory!
The weather was pretty questionable, but thanks to the wonderful and dandy bearded guy, Gen-chan, who took care of us with a smile from start to finish, we made the best memories! Thank you!

またパンプキン鍾乳洞の中に入るまで大変だったのに鍾乳洞の中もよじ登ったり普段ではしない体験ができて冒険してるみたいで楽しかったです！
最後飛び込みはかなりびびりましたが、いい思い出になりました！
お天気は微妙すぎましたが、最初から最後までつきっきりでお世話してくださった笑顔が素敵なダンディー髭男げんちゃんのおかげで最高の思い出ができました！ありがとうございました！

This time, I booked a tour for mangrove canoeing and a visit to Yufu Island, and I had a really enjoyable time. Paddling through the mangrove forest felt wonderful and was also quite mystical. I was able to see water buffalo up close, which was very satisfying!!
Additionally, our tour guide, "Macchan," was a kind person of the same generation, which made the experience even better! We were able to share various personal stories, which enhanced our enjoyment of the tour. For lunch, he recommended several dishes, and I was thrilled to be able to try "squid ink yakisoba, soki soba, gulkun burger, coffee, and pineapple cake."
I highly recommend this tour, so if you're considering it, definitely go for it!!

The weather was cloudy, but the clear blue sea was full of fish. It was very beautiful. We participated as a family with our 7-year-old and 9-year-old children, and all the staff were kind and supportive of the kids, allowing us to participate with peace of mind.

Now that my younger child is in elementary school, we were finally able to participate in sea activities as a family! The pumpkin cave exploration involved climbing to high places with ropes, and at the end, we even got to jump in. The kids, who love athletics, were filled with excitement and had a great time. I participated with my dog, and I was grateful that dogs were allowed. They provided waterproof smartphone cases and winter marine coats for rent, both of which were new and clean, which I really appreciated. It was my first time riding in a transparent kayak, and the floor was like the window of a glass boat, allowing us to see the coral and fish clearly.
The dog I brought along was so excited that he even dove into the sea.
The guide was very dog-friendly and kind, which I was really thankful for. During the experience, another staff member flew a drone, and after the experience, they shared all the photos and videos, including an edited video with background music, which was a wonderful display of hospitality!
After the experience, they provided fresh water in a large bottle, so I was able to wash my dog after he jumped into the sea. I recommend bringing extra towels from the hotel!

防水のスマホケースの貸し出しや、冬用のマリンコートの貸し出し、いずれも新しく綺麗な物を貸し出していただきありがたかったです。透明のカヤックは初めて乗ったのですが、床がガラスボートの窓のようになって珊瑚や魚をクリアに見ることができました。
体験していた犬はテンションが上がったあまり海にダイブするほどで、
案内いただいたお兄さんもドッグフレンドリーで親切な方でとてもありがたかったです。そして体験中にもう一名のスタッフの方はドローンを飛ばしてくださり、
体験終了後全てそれらの写真と動画をシェアしてくださるのですが、bgmつきの編集された動画もシェアしてくださりホスピタリティに感動です！
終了後は真水を大きなボトルで提供くださるので、犬が海に飛び込んでもそれで洗うことができました。タオルはホテルから多めに持参をするのがオススメです！

I traveled to Miyako Island for two nights and three days in December, and I had booked a clear kayak tour for the second day. Unfortunately, on the day of the tour, it was raining heavily, so I received a call from the tour operator in the morning, allowing me to decide whether to proceed or not. They were very accommodating to my request to assess the local conditions before making a decision.
In the end, I rescheduled the tour for the third day, and they even let me choose which time slot to take. On the third day, they also conducted the drone filming early to avoid the rain, which was incredibly flexible and helpful.
The drone footage was recorded in video format, and I received about eight clips lasting 10 to 30 seconds each, along with one edited video of about one minute and 20 seconds with music. I also received several photos. The image quality was very beautiful, and it was enjoyable to watch even on a large screen.
It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.
12月に2泊3日で宮古島へ旅行に行き、2日目にクリアカヤックのツアーを予約していました。
ところが当日あいにくの大雨だったため、ツアーの方から当日の朝電話をいただき、実施するかどうかをこちらで判断させてくれました。
現地の状況を見て判断したいという要望にも快く応じてくださりました。
結局3日目に変更したのですが、その際も3日目のどの時間枠にするかまで選ばせてくれたり、3日目も雨が降る前に早めにドローン撮影をしてくださったりとても柔軟に対応していただき大変助かりました。
ドローン撮影は動画で撮影してくれて、10〜30秒ほどの動画を8本ほどと、1分20秒くらいに編集した音楽付きの動画を1本いただきました。その他写真も数枚いただきました。
画質もとても綺麗で大画面で見ても楽しめます。
とてもいい思い出になりました。

Early December typically has relatively high temperatures, so just bringing a short-sleeved shirt and a light jacket is usually sufficient, allowing for comfortable winter days!
During the summer tourist season, visitors tend to concentrate, and ferries from Ishigaki Island to Iriomote Island can become fully booked, leading to difficulties in securing reservations for desired departures or long waiting times. In contrast, December offers more flexibility for travel and activities, making it a great time for family trips where you can easily plan your itinerary without feeling rushed!
On Iriomote Island, we had a kayaking experience in one of Japan's largest mangrove forests! The course follows a gentle river, making it suitable for beginners and families with children! In December, there are days when the north wind blows strongly, and during those times, you may need more strength to paddle than you might expect! However, while kayaking, you wear a life jacket and are constantly moving, so you hardly feel the cold! The guide provides support based on the weather and the participants' physical condition, so you can join with peace of mind! If you find it physically challenging and can’t paddle anymore, the guide will tow you! By the way, this time, Shogo from Pipi Iriomote Island was our guide, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable kayaking tour!
Additionally, the weather on Iriomote Island can change rapidly, and the weather forecast may not always be reliable! It’s recommended to bring rain gear, such as a raincoat, in case of sudden rain! Please note that the meeting point for this tour is Uehara Port. In December, due to strong winds, ferries to Uehara Port may be canceled, and in such cases, you will need to take a local bus for about an hour to reach Uehara Port after arriving at Ohara Port. You will need to use the ferry departing from Ishigaki Port at 7:30 AM, so for those who are not early risers or are traveling with small children, an overnight stay on Iriomote Island is recommended!

また、西表島は天候が変わりやすく、天気予報が当てにならない場合もあります！急な雨に備え、レインウェアなどの雨具の持参をおすすめします！多少の雨でも自然の雰囲気を楽しめるのが、西表島ならではの魅力かと思います！
カヤック体験後は、お昼休憩後、バスで移動して水牛車に乗って由布島へ！三線の音色を聞きながら海を渡る素敵な体験ができます！混雑を避け、自然と向き合う時間を大切にしたい家族におすすめの、冬ならではの西表島ツアーでした！
尚、こちらのツアーの集合場所は上原港です。12月は強風の影響で上原港行きフェリーが欠航となる場合があり、その際は大原港到着後、路線バスで約1時間移動して上原港へ向かいます。石垣港7:30発のフェリー利用が必要となるため、早起きが苦手な方や小さなお子様連れの方は、西表島での前泊をおすすめします！

First visit to Miyako Island 初の宮古島

This was my first time in Miyako Island. We started with a canoe tour to the Pumpkin Cave. The meeting time was early, and the location was a bit hard to find, but it was great that the staff came out to assist us right away. The instructor was also a lot of fun. It took about ten minutes to walk from the parking lot to the canoe, and although the waves were a bit high and the weather wasn't great, we managed to paddle to the entrance. Inside, there was a large rock that looked like a pumpkin, where we took some photos and received explanations. After that, we climbed up the rock and ventured further inside. Despite various safety precautions, we were able to take our time to enjoy the sights and even splash around in the water. The highlight was diving from the top of the rock, which felt amazing. On the way back, the canoe ride felt quite fast due to the waves.
After some time, we headed to Higashi-Hennazaki and had lunch before going to the snorkeling spot. While snorkeling, we were able to see sea turtles right away and even spotted clownfish, taking lots of photos. The ocean was incredibly beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I was really happy to receive the photos later through social media, as these kinds of pictures are often sold at quite high prices.
初の宮古島でした。最初はパンプキン鍾乳洞までのカヌーツアー。集合時間も早く場所は少しわかりにくい箇所でした。係員の方がすぐに出てきてくれてよかったです。インストラクターも非常に楽しい方でした。駐車場から歩いて１０分でカヌーに乗り、若干波が高く天候もよくなかったですが、入り口まで漕げました。中に入るとパンプキンのような大きな岩があり説明と写真撮影、その後その岩を上って奥まで進みました。いろいろ注意事項があるもののゆっくり見ることができたり、水を浴びたりと楽しめました。最後は岩の上からのダイブ、気持ちよかったです。帰りのカヌーは波もあり結構早く着いた感じでした。
しばらく時間が空いたので東平安名崎まで行ったり昼ごはんを食べてシュノーケルの場所まで行きました。シュノーケルはウミガメがすぐに見ることができたり、ニモを見たりしながら写真を撮ってもらいました。海がとてもきれいで満喫できました。
撮ってもらった写真は後でSNSを通じてもらうことができてとてもうれしいです。（こういうのは結構高額な価格で販売されることが多かったので）

I participated in the Pumpkin Cave, sea kayaking, beach SUP, and sea turtle snorkeling.
During the SUP, the instructors patiently taught us beginners how to hold the paddle and tips on how to paddle, which helped us enjoy SUP even as first-timers.
In snorkeling, they smoothly guided us to points where we could see sea turtles, coral, and clownfish, and I was amazed to see countless creatures.
Unfortunately, due to sudden bad weather, we couldn't experience the Pumpkin Cave and sea kayaking, but I’m glad I joined the tour as the bright and kind staff took many wonderful photos for us. Thank you very much!
