On the day of the tour, unfortunately, there was thick fog, and everything around us was completely white. However, thanks to Mr. Otsuka's wonderful guidance, the bad weather didn't matter, and it turned into an amazing tour!

I brought trekking shoes, a down jacket for climbing, and gloves. I met our guide, Mr. Otsuka, in the lobby of Hotel Tateyama. He mentioned that the snow had become quite soft, and they offered to lend us snowshoes or rubber boots for free, so I decided to borrow snowshoes and trekking poles to start our trek!

Although everything was white around us, we were able to see a pair of ptarmigans. Mr. Otsuka used slides to explain their ecology in an engaging way, which was very educational. Additionally, he was very knowledgeable about snow, explaining the meaning, density, and weight of snow layers scientifically, which was fascinating! Thanks to Mr. Otsuka's pre-tour briefing, I was able to appreciate the Snow Wall much more deeply!

I was moved to realize that things that might not be clear when visiting the Snow Wall or Tateyama can become so much more appealing with the assistance of a professional guide like him! I definitely want to request Mr. Otsuka's guidance again when I visit Tateyama in the summer!

当日はトレッキングシューズと登山用のダウン・手袋などを持っていきました。
ホテル立山のロビーでガイドの大塚さんと合流しました。
雪がだいぶゆるくなってきているとのことで、スノーシューもしくは長靴を無料で貸し出してもらえるとのことだったので、せっかくなので、スノーシューとストックを借りて、トレッキングスタートです！

あたりは真っ白でしたが、雷鳥のつがいを見ることもでき、雷鳥の生態なども丁寧に説明のスライドなどを使って、適宜面白く説明してくれたので、非常に勉強になりました。
また、大塚さんは雪について非常に博識な方で、雪層の意味や密度、重さなども実際に科学的にご説明してくれて、非常に面白かったです！
この事前の大塚さんレクのお陰で、雪の大谷もかなり興味深く見ることができました！

雪の大谷単体や立山観光だとわからないことも、こうしたプロのガイドさんのアテンドがあれば、こんなにも魅力あるものになるのか！と思い感動しました！
夏に立山に行く際にも、ぜひまた大塚さんのガイドをお願いしたい！と思った次第です！

A trip with my daughter from Kansai.
Since we usually come from a region where it doesn't snow, everything was a first-time experience, and we had a lot of fun and created wonderful memories.
We were able to participate in our regular outfits.
There were some activities where we got a bit of snow on us, but it didn't bother us at all.

There were free buses from New Chitose Airport and Chitose Station (Chitose Winter Loop), so it was great that we could participate before our flight departure.
I thought we might have too much free time since there weren't many activities, but we joined a plan that allowed unlimited play, so we enjoyed the same activities multiple times, and there wasn't enough time. Snow rafting was thrilling and exciting, and both the adults and high school students were very enthusiastic.

Since it’s a facility at a famous golf course, it was very clean, and we had delicious jingisukan for lunch, which had no odor at all. There was also a drink bar, and we enjoyed coffee after our meal while looking at the beautiful snowy landscape.

All the staff were very kind, and we created even more wonderful memories before leaving Hokkaido.
I definitely want to stop by again the next time I come to Hokkaido. It was so much fun!! Thank you very much.

普段　雪が降らない地域からの参加だったので、全部初めての体験でとても楽しくいい思い出ができました。
行ったままの格好で参加できました。
多少雪がかかるアクティビティもありましたが、私達は気にならないくらいでした。

新千歳空港や千歳駅から無料のバスが出ていて（ぐるぐる千歳冬号）飛行機の出発前に参加できて良かったです。
アクティビティの数は多くはないので時間を持て余すかな？と思いましたが、遊び放題のプランで参加したので同じものを何回も楽しめて、時間が足りないくらいでした。スノーラフティングはスピード感があり迫力満点で、おばさんも高校生も大興奮でした。

有名ゴルフ場の施設なのでとてもきれいで、お昼ごはんもこちらでジンギスカンをいただきましたが、臭みも全くなくとてもおいしかったです。ドリンクバーもあり、綺麗な雪景色を見ながら食後のコーヒーまで楽しめました。

スタッフの方もみなさん親切で北海道を離れる前に更にいい思い出ができました。　
次に北海道に来るときも必ず立ち寄りたいです。たのしかったです！！ありがとうございました。

After a 30-minute bus ride from the designated hotel, we arrived at the riverside dining area in Kyoto, Takao. The moment we got off the bus, we were in a fantastical place that felt like it could be from "Spirited Away."

The food was already set up, and when we opened the lid, the meat was absolutely amazing! I was so impressed. As we neared the end of our meal, a maiko appeared. After the greetings, she visited each table. Today's maiko was Kimika from Miyakawacho.

After chatting, it was finally time for her to perform, and she danced for us twice. Thank you for this extraordinary experience.

It takes about 30 minutes from downtown Kyoto, but there is a bus service, making it easy to access a location that is quite difficult to reach on your own due to the poor mountain roads. I participated in mid-February 2020. When I arrived at the meeting place, I was relieved to have someone carefully teach me how to put on the dry suit and help me with it. After a short 5-minute drive, we reached a small cove on Lake Shikotsu, where an area about the size of two tennis courts was frozen. From a distance, the white and transparent ice looked mottled. I learned that the lake water freezes clear, while the snow that accumulates on top freezes white. At first, I thought the transparent ice was thin and melting, but it turned out to be quite thick. The guide brought a pickaxe and let me borrow it to try to break the ice, but it wouldn't break at all. When I picked up a piece of broken ice, it had a unique crystalline shape that I had never seen before. I could also enter the lake from the edge of the ice. It was surprisingly warm for this time of year, with an outside temperature of 5°C and a water temperature of 2°C, so I hardly felt any cold except on my face, which was directly exposed to the water. By the way, I wore a T-shirt and sweatpants under the dry suit, and I had adhesive heat packs on my toes, but I was slightly sweating after the experience. Since I intentionally didn't let the air out of the dry suit, I floated comfortably in the water, which made me feel secure even though I couldn't swim. Floating without feeling cold while gazing at the blue sky was very pleasant, and I wished I could have stayed like that for another hour. The guide also lent me a snorkel, so even though my face was extremely cold, I could observe the underside of the ice and the bottom of the lake closely. The time spent standing on the ice and being in the lake was about 40-50 minutes, and with the remaining time for putting on and taking off the dry suit, moving around, and settling the payment, the total duration was just a little over an hour. Since it wasn't cold, it felt too short, and I would have liked to have at least double the time. I was very satisfied to have such a rare experience that is hard to come by.

2020年2月中旬に参加しました。集合場所につくとドライスーツの着方を丁寧に教えてもらえ、また着るのも手伝ってもらえるので安心でした。車で5分くらいの支笏湖の小さな入り江のほとりに行くとテニスコート２個分くらいのエリアが凍ってました。遠くから見ると白い氷と透明な氷がまだらに見えました。これは湖の水がそのまま凍ると透明になり、降り積もった雪が凍ると白くなるそうです。最初透明な氷は厚みがなくて溶けかかってるのかなぁと思いましたがそんな事はなくかなり分厚い表層でした。ガイドさんがツルハシを持ってきていて貸してもらい割ろうとしましたが全然割れませんでした。割れている氷を手に取ると見たことのない形で結晶化していて珍しかったです。氷の端から湖に入ることも出来ました。この時期にしてはとても暖かく外気温5℃、水温2℃との事で水が直接触れる顔以外は寒さ冷たさはほぼ感じませんでした。ちなみにドライスーツの下はTシャツと上下スウェットを着込み、足先には貼るカイロを着けていましまが、体験後うっすら汗ばんでいる程でした。ドライスーツの中の空気をあえて抜かずに入るので水にプカプカ浮くので泳げなくても安心でした。冷たさを感じずにプカプカ浮いて青空を眺めているととても気持ちよかったのであと１時間くらいこうしていたかったです。ガイドさんからシュノーケルも借りれるので、顔がめちゃくちゃ冷たいですが、氷の裏側を見たり湖の底をじっくり観察することも出来ます。氷の上に立ったり湖に入ってる時間は40-50分程で残り時間でドライスーツ着たり脱いだりの準備と移動、精算などで全部で1時間とちょっとの所要時間でした。寒くなかったので、もう倍くらいの時間あっても良いくらい短く感じました。なかなか出来ない珍しい体験ができてとても満足です。

I signed up for this experience because I thought, "This is something you can't do often!" since you can play on the ice in a lake in mid-winter. However, I was worried about whether the ice would be solid due to this year's record warm winter, so I directly inquired before signing up, and they responded quickly and very kindly. They assured me that the ice was fine, so I was able to sign up with peace of mind.

The actual time spent playing on the ice was about 30 minutes, including preparation and wrap-up. Following the instructions, I applied a heat pack to my toes and wore a dry suit, which made it completely comfortable (though it was also a day with no wind, which they called "perfect for ice walking").

Usually, I would expect to take photos with a Nordic atmosphere amidst a snowy landscape while playing on the ice, but this time there was almost no snow, resulting in images set against a rather bleak winter scenery, which was disappointing.

However, I was satisfied with the experience of hearing the sound of the ice cracking as I took my first step and the chime-like sounds of broken ice colliding in the water, all while floating thanks to the buoyancy of the dry suit, gazing up at the blue sky. The staff were all friendly, and my middle and high school sons, who are at a difficult age, seemed to enjoy themselves without hesitation. Thank you very much.

　真冬の湖で氷遊びが出来ると言う事で、「これはなかなか出来ない体験！」と申し込みました。
　しかしながら、今年の記録的な暖冬で氷が張っているのか心配で申し込み前に直接問い合わせをしたところ、迅速かつとても親切に対応して頂きました。
氷は問題ないとの事で、安心して申し込むことが出来ました。
　体験は準備から終わりまでの時間で実際氷遊びをしているのは30分程度です。ご案内の通りにホカロンをつま先に張ってドライスーツを着た事もあり、全く寒くなかったです。（この日は風もない「アイスウォーク日和」とお墨付きを頂いた日だったからと言うのもありますが。）
　例年通りならば、雪景色の中での氷遊びでちょっと北欧の様な雰囲気の写真が撮れたかと思いますが、今回は雪がほぼなくて、殺風景な冬景色の中での画像となってしまったのは残念でした。
　でも、自分が踏み出した一歩から氷が割れていく音や、水の中で割れた氷同士がぶつかって奏でる風鈴の様な音を聞きながら、ドライスーツのお陰で（浮力が付与）ぷかっと浮かびながら、青空を仰ぐ癒しの時間を体験出来て、満足でした。
　スタッフの方々は皆さんフレンドリーで、難しい年齢の中・高校生男子の息子たちも臆することなく楽しんだ様です。どうもありがとうございました。

Great rafting experience

Although August is a poor time for rafting in Hokkaido as the water level is low and the it's so hot with extreme UV rays, the whole experience has been enjoyable and the guide, from Nepal, spoke great English and had great energy.

The whole activity can be enjoyed from young child to elderly as it's not very strenuous but is still alot of fun for beginner rafters involving alot of wetness and fun.

Recommends to bring a change of clothing when you get out of the water.

On the day of the event, it was unfortunately rainy and felt a bit cool, but I was able to escape reality for a moment while enjoying a delicious meal (I chose sukiyaki) at a riverside location with an outstanding view, accompanied by the dance and stories of the maiko. (Laughs) Of course, photography was also perfectly allowed!

I heard that out of the five riverside venues, four were open for guests, and we had four maiko come to us: Umetae and Fumikou from Kamishichiken, and Kikuyae and Kanesue from Miyagawa-cho. (Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn't meet Fumikou... so sad.)

Above all, I was really pleased with the attentiveness and care of the staff. I highly recommend this place! Ladies! (Laughs)

当日は生憎の雨で少し涼しく感じられる天気でしたが、抜群のロケーションのなか川床で美味しい食事（すき焼きを選択）を頂きながら舞妓さんの舞やお話しでひととき現実逃避してきました～。（笑）　もちろん写真撮影もバッチリいけますよ！

聞いたところ5つある川床のうち4つ入客あった様で舞妓さんも、上七軒から梅たえさん・ふみ幸さん　宮川町から菊弥江さん・叶季（かなすえ）さんの4名が来てくれてました。（時間の都合でふみ幸さんとはお目にかかれませんでしたが・・・悲）


なにより、スタッフのみなさんの気づかい心くばりも嬉しかったですね～・・・ここ、お薦めですよ！奥様～♪（笑）

As residents of a warm region where snow doesn't accumulate, I wanted to show my 11-year-old son a snowy landscape and let him play in the snow, so I planned a trip to Hokkaido. After doing some research, I found North Snow Land in Chitose and decided to participate this time.

The three of us were truly moved by the vast snowy scenery, and although we were eager to experience the activities, we spent an hour enjoying ourselves by lying in the snow and having snowball fights in the free area. That alone was enough for us as residents of a warm climate, but of course, we had a blast afterward.

We were impressed by the thrill of snow rafting, and the mini snowmobiles were fun too; my son enjoyed them. We couldn't do the tube sliding due to the low snow accumulation (which was an incredible amount of snow for us), but instead, we got to try the snow zip line, which was also thrilling and enjoyable.

It was truly fun, and I would recommend it to anyone I know planning a trip to Hokkaido.

　温暖で雪は積もらない県の住民なので、11歳の息子に一度は雪景色を見せてあげたい、雪でおもいっきり遊ばせてあげたいとの思いから北海道旅行を計画し、いろいろ調べてノーススノーランドイン千歳さんを見つけて今回参加させて頂きました。
　家族三人、本当に一面の雪景色に感動し、早くアクティビティを体験したらよいのにもかかわらず、一時間長、フリーエリアで雪に寝転がったり雪の掛け合いをしたりして楽しみました。
それだけで南国の住人には十分でしたが、もちろんそのあと、遊び放題で楽しみました。
　スノーラフティングの迫力に感動、ミニスノーモービルも面白く、息子も楽しんでました。
チューブ滑りは、積雪量が少ない(南国住人にはあり得ないくらいの雪の量でしたが)とのことでできませんでしたが、代わりにスノージップラインをさせて頂き、これも迫力があり面白かったです。

　本当に楽しかったので、北海道旅行に行く知人がいれば勧めたいです。

スタッフのみなさん、ありがとうございました。

Since it's close to Chitose Airport, I used the time before my flight to visit. There wasn't much snow on the day, so we couldn't do tubing. I think it's a good idea to check the snow depth before going. I participated with my 10-year-old and 4-year-old, but if you have children under 6, they can only join horseback riding and snow rafting, which might be a bit lacking for just kids under 6. However, toddlers are free, so it still feels like a good deal. Overall, I think it's a cost-effective and worthwhile experience.

千歳空港から近いのでフライトまでの空き時間に利用させてもらいました。当日は雪が少なくチューブ滑りは出来ませんでした。なので積雪量のチェックはした方がよいかと思います。また、10歳と4歳の子と参加しましたが6歳以下だと乗馬とスノーラフティングしか参加できなかったので6歳以下のお子さんだけだとちょっと物足りないかも。ただ幼児は無料なのでそれでもお得感はありますが。基本的にはコスパが良いお得な物だと思います。

The rental wear was beautiful and reasonable. Both adults and children enjoyed snowmobiling and horseback riding in the snow. The shuttle bus driver to the station was kind and informed us of the nearest bus stop to the station, so we were able to catch the train. I would like to use this service again.

We missed the shuttle bus so taking a taxi was our only option. The Hotel Monterey Kyoto front desk was so kind and willing; she called the cab and informed the taxi driver where to drop us off which saved us a lot of time. The shuttle from the restaurant came out and met us about a mile away as the roads get narrow and difficult to find for drivers unfamiliar with that area. The cab fare came out to be about $35-40 from the Hotel (which was less than what I expected). I highly recommend catching the shuttle service on time (be there early as they will leave exactly on time!)-- not only it's more comfortable having someone drive you to the restaurant, but it will save you time and money.

The restaurant is located in a very secluded and quiet area, completely surrounded by nature. They will greet and walk you to your designated table. The guiding lights in the complete dark woods make the ambience more beautiful. All meals will come out in your eating pace... which is important because I eat pretty slow and sometimes course meals rush you to hurry up and eat. I wasn't sure how to eat fish properly (whether I was supposed to eat the whole entire fish or leave the head or tail), so the older lady came over and removed all the bones for me. Service was fantastic.

There were two Maikos that night-- both Maikos came around, very willing to take pictures and answer questions/ conversate with you. When they start their dancing, I couldn't help but to stare in awe. They look like walking dolls. They also had goodies before the show (i.e a fan, canvas bag, etc). It was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this tour. I want to do this again if I travel back to Kyoto in near future.

From the drive out of Kyoto Center up the cool hills past traditional tiled roofed houses, to our evening end with our gracious hosts smiling behind us as we walked back over the rope footbridge with the twinkling Japanese lanterns lighting the lush green river - A Magical Evening indeed.
Arriving at sunset, you see the beauty of the hot spring resort with our tables overlooking the river and mountain forest. We ordered the snow course (full- larger Kayseki) dinner. Traditional hosts (who speak only a little English) took us to our low tables set with course 1, gift Japanese fans and menu's in English. Sake and beer is additional. We had 2 Maiko's that evening, each separately visited all the tables to take pictures. (they speak Japanese, but can answer a little of English questions) Food was fresh, delicious and so artistically presented course by course. The beautiful dance & musical entertainment was lovely in the intimate setting. Each group had their own tables and the room is not too large. Splurge and treat yourself to this special experience.

This tour is "twice as enjoyable" not only because of the riverside setting but also because you can meet maiko. Three maiko came to visit us. They went around to each table, allowing us to enjoy friendly conversations. It was amazing to see the dance up close. Last time, we had sukiyaki for our meal, so this time I opted for kaiseki. The summer dishes like hamo sashimi and grilled sweetfish were delightful. Additionally, there was a lottery event (on the 3rd and 5th of the month), which added to the excitement! (Although I didn't win anything... (^^;))

川床だけでなく、舞妓さんにも会えるという「２度おいしい」ツアーです。舞妓さんは３人来てくれました。各テーブルに回ってきてくれるので、気さくにおしゃべりを楽しむことができました。舞もすぐ近くで見ることができて最高でした。前回は食事がすき焼きだったので、今回は懐石にしてみました。鱧おとしや鮎の塩焼きなど、夏らしい料理で良かったです。また、今回はちょうど抽選会(３と５のつく日)があって、ワクワク感を楽しめました！（何も当たりませんでしたが…(^^;)）
