I found Gokayama to be more charming than Shirakawa-go. The fact that people live there gave it a more lived-in feel, allowing us to sense history up close. Travelers need to observe manners, though. It was truly a wonderful tour where we were taken around by bus for a whole day! The guide was also very entertaining, making it a lot of fun! The duration of the stay was just right—not too long and not too short.

For lunch, we had a delicious meal at Hakusui-en, a place I had wanted to visit after seeing it on TV just two days prior. The hand-made rice cracker experience was easy, tasty, and enjoyable.
