You can efficiently visit the tourist attractions in Abashiri by bus. Personally, I was most looking forward to the Aurora boat tour, but since there were no drift ice and the view from the boat wasn't great, I wished I could have skipped it and spent more time at the Abashiri Prison. However, since it was a tour, it couldn't be helped. The lunch buffet was delicious and satisfying! The guide and the driver were also very kind. I want to come back next year for a revenge tour of the drift ice.

Seeing the drifting ice and ice falls for the first time was truly moving. It felt like a dream to be able to ride on the drifting ice. The guide was absolutely wonderful. During the trekking, they compacted the snow to ensure our safety and constantly checked in with us. They also shared very easy-to-understand information about the flora and fauna of Hokkaido and the drifting ice. Along the way, the soup they prepared was incredibly delicious! The day before had bad weather, and the day before that, there was no drifting ice, so I really think we were lucky. The guide was also wonderful, and the conversation was enjoyable. We had fun discovering bear claw marks, pine trees eaten by flying squirrels, animal footprints, and the rare mushrooms known as monkey's seats while snowshoeing for the first time. It was a cozy little tent, and I was able to enjoy ice fishing for wakasagi without feeling cold. I was taught some tips for catching them at first, and I followed those instructions, but I was also lucky and caught quite a few. The wakasagi we caught were made into tempura, which was crispy and delicious.

Additionally, I was picked up and dropped off at the hotel, so even though there was quite a bit of snow piled up, it was very convenient to participate.

I used the facility on a weekday before noon. There were few customers, so I was able to enjoy all the activities without waiting in line. The weather had been warm for several days, and after some rain, there was a bit less snow, but I was still able to fully enjoy playing in the snow. The rafting, similar to a banana boat on water, was more exciting than I expected and really fun. The staff were all very friendly and kind, which made for a pleasant experience.

The only downside was at New Chitose Airport, where there were many other buses lined up near the bus stop (around number 30), and the shuttle bus I needed came in last. I was waiting before the departure time, but I didn't notice it passing right in front of me and ended up missing it. In the end, I had to take a taxi, so I would have really appreciated it if someone could have checked for any customers who were not on the bus.

結局タクシーで向かうことになったので、お客さんがいないか確認していただければ本当にありがたかったです。

I prepared for complete cold protection, but the weather was really nice and warm (even though the highest temperature was 1 degree). Unfortunately, I couldn't see the drift ice ⤵️. However, thanks to the good weather, the Shiretoko mountain range looked incredibly beautiful, so that was nice in its own way.

For lunch, I didn't have high expectations for the buffet, but it turned out to be quite delicious. As expected from Hokkaido, the seafood and potatoes were perfect👌. The tour guide and the driver were also very polite, and if I have the opportunity again, I would like to sign up for other tours as well.

I was looking for a place to play in the snow near New Chitose Airport, and I visited North Snow Land in Chitose. It was helpful that there is a free shuttle bus from the airport and JR Chitose Station, so I could get there without a rental car. Actually, the evening before this tour, I went on a private ice floe ship called the Aurora to see the drifting ice, so I honestly debated whether to cancel this tour. However, to conclude, I'm glad I went; it was incredibly fun. Even without considering the fact that I got to see the drifting ice and the good weather, this was the best bus tour I've ever been on.

First of all, the bus driver and the tour guide were both very nice people. I had a great time throughout the trip. The lunch was a buffet at a local izakaya, with a wide variety of homemade dishes that tasted great, and I was delighted to have gelato from a famous local shop. The timing was just right for us, allowing us to buy snacks and souvenirs along the way. I'm really glad I didn't cancel. We felt it was worth more than the price we paid. I am very satisfied.

I visited North Snow Land for the first time, and I had a great time experiencing a lot of snow activities! Since it was a weekday, it wasn't crowded, and I was able to enjoy endless snowmobiling and buggies! Haha. Among all the activities, snow rafting was especially fun, and I wanted to ride it multiple times! I'm really glad I made a reservation with the special plan! I participated in a three-hour snow trekking course. It was truly special to experience walking through a pristine, white snowfield that I could never have traversed on my own.

The wildlife I actually saw included birds and deer, but I was also carefully taught about the tracks and signs of animals like foxes, flying squirrels, and brown bears. Even though I couldn't see them, I strongly felt that they were living very close by.

In addition to talking about animals, the guide shared information about the region's history, nature conservation, the relationship between the forest and animals, and how humans have interacted with the environment. It made me realize once again how the natural environment of Shiretoko is built on a series of miracles and how important it is to protect it. The guide didn't just bombard us with knowledge; instead, they shared information in a way that was easy to understand, discussing points one by one.

When I mentioned the area where I currently live (Kansai), the guide, Ayano, told me about a book modeled after that region. I bought it as soon as I got home and read it. It was a wonderful book, and it has become one of my favorites. I fell in love with not only Shiretoko but also my own hometown all over again.

Ayano was a truly wonderful guide with abundant knowledge and a love for nature. Thank you for such a fantastic experience!

実際に見られた野生動物は鳥や鹿でしたが、キツネやモモンガ、ヒグマなどの足跡や痕跡を丁寧に教えてもらえ、姿は見えなくても「すぐ近くで生活していること」を強く感じることができました。

動物の話だけでなく、地域の歴史や自然保護、森と動物の関係、人間がどう関わってきたかなども教えてくださり、知床の自然環境がいかに奇跡の重なりの上に成り立ち、守っていかなければならないものなのかをあらためて実感しました。知識を一方的にたくさん話すのではなく、ポイントごとにポツポツと話してくれるので、とても理解しやすかったです。

また、私が今住んでいる地域（関西）の話をしたところ、ガイドの綾野さんがその地域をモデルにした本を教えてくださり、帰ってすぐ購入して読みました。とても素敵な本で、大好きな本になりました。知床だけでなく自分の住んでいる場所も改めて大好きになりました。
豊富な知識と自然への愛を持った、本当に素敵なガイドさんでした。とても素敵な体験をありがとうございました。

This time, we used it for a family trip with our elementary and middle school children. We came to enjoy the snow festival, but perhaps because it's a bit far from Sapporo city, there wasn't much crowding. It's also a short distance from the airport, as we arrived by taxi in less than 20 minutes.

We played a lot, and before we knew it, over three hours had passed. It seems that the kids had the most fun here rather than at the snow festival. The staff were all very kind, and we truly made wonderful memories. Thank you very much!
