Gion is Kyoto’s most traditional district, and a special place where the culture of Kagai (the world of maiko and geiko) is still vibrant. Get to know the story behind this area as you look for maiko and geisha on their way to the ochaya (tea houses). Stroll through lanes lined with machiya and ochaya, all lit by brilliant red lanterns. You may see maiko and geisha on their way to appointments, and can learn about the history of these 'flower towns'.
