Tokyo
This was my second time here with my son and my friend from Japan joined for her first time and we all loved it. We had an English speaking instructor who was very helpful and showed us step-by-step what we needed to do to make our design how we wanted it. We practiced on a separate glass and that was so helpful to improve our technique. The instructor gave us additional tips along the way. It's so nice to take home such a unique product from our time spent in Japan.
Be sure to bring reading glasses so you can see well.
I had heard that the staff would be kind and helpful based on reviews, but I was worried that with so many people, there might not be enough time to work at the stations. However, in reality, there was one instructor for every six students, and each student had their own workstation. The instruction was thorough and attentive, and there was plenty of time to work. It was more challenging than I expected, but after practicing, I was able to decide on a design that suited my skill level, and I think I ended up with something really good.
I thought it might have been good to challenge myself with a design that was a bit difficult since I had some extra time.
I participated with a total of five friends, including both American and Japanese friends. It was everyone's first time, but we enjoyed choosing glasses, selecting designs, and the entire experience. Even if we made mistakes, the unique flavors of handmade items created great memories. Everyone was incredibly focused, so time flew by!
There are many types of glasses and designs available, so it's better to think in advance about what you want to create for a smoother experience!
I was able to practice thoroughly and immerse myself with peace of mind.
It was challenging, but I was able to focus and enjoy the experience, so I would like to try a different design next time.
There are so many designs that if you get lost deciding, you might run out of time, so it seems better to narrow down your choices in advance.
It was such a special experience to spend a few hours with the owners of KUGE studio. They are both pottery artists and took the time to teach us to create our own kintsugi teacup as well as give us an overview about this traditional art form. Not only was it a meditative art experience but it was so special to connect with these two lovely people. It was one of the best afternoons I spent in Tokyo and I strongly recommend booking this class.
My first experience with Edo Kiriko was challenging but fun. They let you practice, so you don't have to carve directly onto the glass without any preparation, which makes it manageable. I was a bit shocked to find out that colored glasses come with an additional fee; it might have been mentioned somewhere, though.
My teenage daughter and I had a wonderful time at the workshop! We enjoyed every minute of it and are delighted to have a great souvenir to take home with us.
Thank you for this opportunity.
I'm glad you enjoyed your food sample experience.
Please come visit us again when you visit Japan. We look forward to seeing you!
We enjoyed every minute of this workshop! The teacher was very informative and gave everyone personal attention, making suggestions and only too happy for us to continue practicing if we weren't confident of going onto our personal glass. At the end, she glamour shot our glasses, showing them off beautifully. We will definitely be back to try a harder design. Highly recommended!
The experience was fabulous - you will enjoy it immensely!
I wanted to try making food samples, but I hesitated because I wasn't sure what to do with them after making things like tempura and lettuce. However, I really needed a smartphone stand, so that was perfect!
I’ve always enjoyed making things, so I had a lot of fun working on it quietly. 😊
Thank you for visiting us this time.
Thank you for the photos as well. They turned out wonderfully.
The tempura and lettuce experience is a wax craft experience, but it has a different kind of fun compared to this one.
Please be sure to try it next time.
Thank you very much.
The Kuge’s are clearly very accomplished in the skills and the art of kintsugi. They are wonderful hosts who were very willing to share their knowledge and experience and help us create a unique kintsugi piece. Will definitely try to do another session with them when we come back to Tokyo!
The fourth and first graders experienced it. At first, I was worried about how it would turn out, but the staff taught them patiently without rushing, and they were able to complete their works on their own. The finished products turned out even better than I imagined. Although there were some mistakes, they turned out beautifully, and I was very satisfied.
Yoshie-san is talented and impressive as an artist, and manages to make something she’s dedicated so much time to accessible to even first-timers!
The studio is the one with sliding glass doors, just left of a very blue shop with silver shutters.
The staff are kind and teach you patiently. First, you loosen the straight ramen noodles and place them on a plate, then pour the soup over them, and finally add the toppings in your preferred layout. The finished product is very satisfying. I highly recommend it.
Thank you for visiting us this time. The ramen turned out delicious. Please be sure to try a different menu item next time. We look forward to seeing you again.
The instructor was very kind, and although the design was difficult, I was able to complete it with their advice! I'm happy to have made a glass that I'm satisfied with. I will cherish it from now on (^^).
- The basic fee includes clear glasses, while colored or smaller glasses incur an additional charge.
- You can look at various design samples on the spot and think about your design.
I was taught very carefully, and I was able to create a glass that I’m satisfied with. It's great that I can take it home on the same day! I'm already enjoying some delicious sake.
Digging at an angle is really difficult. I think it's better to have some idea of the design beforehand♪
My 4 year old and I had a great time making our cupcake and tart. The teacher was so kind and patient, and could cater to us with our lack of Japanese. There was even a playground with a roller slide in the park next to the building, which was perfect for keeping our 1 year old busy while we participated.
Thank you very much for visiting us. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Your child's experience is very important, so we hope that it will become a memorable memory of Japan.
We had such a great time creating our little cupcake and fruit tart! The instructor was so kind and spoke very good English, while simultaneously explaining to another group of visitors in Japanese. It was also a nice change of pace from running around Tokyo to sit and do a craft. We had a hard time choosing additional souvenirs (a magnet and keychain) from their wide selection, and it felt nice to buy from a local business versus the mass produced ones you’ll see in tourist shops. We’d love to come back and do a larger craft next time we’re in town!
We went as two adults, but would be a great activity for children as well!
Thank you for visiting us.
We hope you enjoyed your visit.
Food samples are a uniquely Japanese culture, but we're very happy if you were able to relax and enjoy them.
We look forward to seeing you again, so please try some other items on the menu.
I did the mini curry rice phone stand and it was a really fun activity. the instructions and guidance was so clear and it made the activity run smoothly with no mistakes :)
Thank you for visiting us this time.
We are very happy to hear that you had a great time.
Please come visit us again when you visit Japan.
We look forward to seeing you.
My son and I loved making the curry rice. The instructor was really patient and helpful!
Thank you for visiting us.
The curry rice experience is very popular.
We hope you enjoyed it.
We look forward to your continued patronage.
We had such a wonderful time learning kintsugi! The detail and time this lovely couple takes to teach you the craft is so personal. I will forever treasure the experience.
I was looking forward to my first kiriko experience. After practicing a few times, it was straight to the main event. I received a brief explanation at first, but then I felt a bit abandoned. I think the enjoyment of the experience varies depending on the instructor.
I experienced kintsugi for the first time. I found Kuge Craft on Google Maps and loved the warm and calming atmosphere. The owner couple was very kind and taught us patiently.
I brought a small plate for my cat, but I was also able to repair a teacup. Now, I cherish and use everything at home!
The group size was small, which allowed us to enjoy the experience leisurely. For those driving, there is a parking space right next to the shop.
I definitely want to go again!
The staff were very polite and taught me well, and I was able to create something I am very satisfied with! I would love to go again if I have the chance to visit Tokyo! ✨
This was a fantastic workshop! The instructor gave great explanations and instructions and speaks English. Very friendly and helpful.
My daughter and I did this as a mummy daughter experience and we loved it!
Thank you very much for coming.
We are honored that you were able to learn about Japanese culture and enjoy the experience.
We look forward to seeing you again when you come to Japan.
This class was so much fun. Our sensei was amazing. We received excellent explanations & demonstrations to help us understand the process. I would highly recommend this class!!
We had a great time in this studio during the rainstorm, and came home with amazing souvenirs!
My kids and I had a wonderful time there. They were all awesome and luckily for us they spoke some English.
We recommend this place to anyone visiting Tokyo.
Thank you for visiting us. Thank you for your review.
We are very honored that you enjoyed your experience.
We hope to see you again when you visit Japan.
This was my second experience. Last time, I chose a cherry-colored tumbler from a wide variety of glass shapes and colors, but this time, the colored glasses were limited to light blue, dark blue, and dark red, with only one shape available for each color. Since there were 11 participants from a company alumni gathering, I had hoped to create something with my preferred glass, but in the end, I had no choice but to select a clear glass. Many participants expressed disappointment afterward, saying, "It's a shame there were no colored glasses."
Additionally, last time, the staff made adjustments after the pieces were completed, but that didn't happen this time, which was disappointing. At first, I was nervous about carving, but as I got used to it, it became enjoyable, and I felt like I wanted to challenge myself to create a more elaborate piece with colored glass next time. Overall, it was a very fun experience, and I would like to try it again.
We had an absolutely delightful time at the kintsugi class. The hosts were exceptionally kind and friendly. The class was interesting and time flew by. We all left with our own piece restored pottery. A wonderful way to spend some time doing something interest with such nice and thoughtful people. As tourists it sometimes seems so rare to have an opportunity to interact with people in this way.
(The class is also very easy to get to by train.)
