As soon as I entered the sea, I encountered the sea turtles I had longed to see. Moreover, I came across three of them, along with large spiny lobsters, sea snakes, and various fish. My first snorkeling experience was amazing. The sky was clear, and it was such a HAPPY experience that it blew away the fatigue from the Jomon Sugi trekking the day before. I'm very grateful for being guided to a delicious lunch spot. Thank you very much! ^_^
海に入るなり念願の海亀に逢えました。しかも、述べ3匹、大きな伊勢海老や海蛇、様々な魚達にも遭遇しました。初めてのシュノーケリングは、最高でした。空は、快晴、前日の縄文杉トレッキングの疲れも吹き飛ぶくらいHAPPYな体験でした。美味しいお昼のお店にも案内していただき大感謝です。ありがとうございました^_^

This was my first trip to Yakushima.
First of all, I appreciated the reminder phone calls three days before and the day before the trip, which gave me a sense of reassurance. (I thought it would be even better if email communication was also an option since I was at work.)
On the day of the trip, I had some anxiety because it was early in the morning, but the transportation was on time and comfortable. The tour itself was conducted in small groups of about seven people, which made it very pleasant.
Especially since the pace was well thought out, I believe that having a guide is essential for beginners. It was a highly satisfying tour that I would definitely recommend.
屋久島自体が初上陸の旅でした。
まず、行く3日前と前日にリマインドのお電話があり安心感がありました。（仕事中だったのでメールでの対応も可能だと、よりありがたいなと思いました）
当日は早朝だったので不安もありましたが、時間通りの送迎で快適でした。ツアー自体も個々の7人程度の小グループ行動だったのでとても過ごしやすかったです。
とくにペース配分をしっかり考えてくださったので、初心者の方はガイドさん必須だと思います。大満足のお勧めできるツアーでした。

The guide came to our accommodation on the day of the tour and took us to the site. This time, there were only two of us, my friend and me.
She was a friendly woman who introduced us to various trees and plants, including cedar, as well as birds, insects, and stones. I learned that the content of the tour varies depending on the guide, but I found it all very interesting.
She made sure to take breaks frequently, so we were able to keep up without getting exhausted. She also chatted easily with other tourists and guides we passed by, which created a great atmosphere, even though I only managed to greet them.
Additionally, I was able to ask her not only about Shiratani Unsuikyo but also about Yakushima as a whole, which was very fascinating.
As a recommendation, if you remember some places you want to check out after exploring Yakushima the day before the tour, you can ask the guide about those spots and hear interesting stories like "Actually..."
Overall, I had a very enjoyable time, and I felt a sense of lightness even during work hours. I believe it’s the power of Yakushima, with its nature and people!
ガイドさんが当日宿まで来てくださり、現場まで連れていってくれました。今回のツアーでは私と友人の2人のみでした。
気さくな女性の方で、主に杉をはじめとした木々や植物、鳥、虫、石のことなどを紹介していただきました。ガイドさんによって話す内容は異なるそうですが、私はとても興味深く聞くことができました。

また、ガイドさんとは白谷雲水峡のことだけでなく屋久島全体のことについても伺うことができたのでとても面白かったです。
おすすめとしては、ツアーに行く前日にある程度屋久島をまわって気になったところを覚えておくと、ガイドさんに気になったところを聞けたり「実は......」という話が聞けます。
総合的にとても楽しい時間を過ごせましたし、仕事をしている時間でもなんとなく気分が軽くなっている気がしました。自然や人といった、屋久島パワーだと思います！

The heavy rain in the morning stopped, and on the way there, I encountered a family of monkeys. Walking through the forest, which sparkled beautifully after the rain, the air released from the trees was delightful, and I felt my skin rejoice in the moist atmosphere. It started to rain lightly from Shiratani Lodge, but I was able to enjoy the fantastical moss-covered forest wrapped in mist. The guide was a veteran, knowledgeable about flowers, trees, and wild birds, with extensive experience in mountains across the country. While other guiding parties passed by, he would stop each time to share various insights about plants and animals, which I found incredibly valuable. He also meticulously calculated the walking order considering the participants' stamina and pace, and since we had extra time on the way back, he even added a visit to the emerald green riverbank, which was outside the original course! I had a decent level of confidence in my physical strength, but I was a bit anxious due to my age. However, I participated this time based on the reviews I read. The Jomon Sugi course is quite challenging, but with the help of an experienced guide, I was able to learn about the plants and recommended viewpoints during the trek. Even as a beginner in trekking, I quickly reached the Great Cedar. I was fortunate to have a wonderful guide and great members, making it an absolutely fantastic retreat. Thank you very much!

It was unusually clear in Yakushima, and our guide mentioned that it was the best day of the year. I had a more enjoyable round trip than I had imagined. Of course, the good weather helped me conserve my energy and spirit, but I believe the main reason was the brightness of our guide and everyone I walked with. It's hard to say since it's all about luck, but the members you walk with are important.
屋久島では珍しくピーカンで、ガイドさんから1年で1番いい日というお言葉をいただきました。
想像していたより楽しく往復できました。もちろん天気がよかったので体力気力を削られなかったというのもあると思いますが、1番はガイドさんと、一緒に歩いた皆さんの明るさのおかげだと思います。

This was my first challenge in Yakushima. Before the tour started, I was informed about the time allocation for the round trip of 22 km, which allowed me to participate in the tour with a focused mindset. I was told by the guide that it was miraculous to have such clear weather on that day in the refreshing climate of April. One of my friends who was supposed to join me had a problem with their leg. They told me that since I came to Yakushima, I should go ahead, so I signed up alone. Moreover, on that day, I was the only participant in the afternoon tour of Shiratani Unsuikyo Mossy Forest. It was just me and one guide, so I had a personal guide and photographer. They led me at my own pace, took many photos at the scenic spots, and I was able to hear explanations about the trees and moss in the forest, as well as various stories about Yakushima. Since I had to take a detour, it took two hours to go and an hour and a half to return. Taking photos along the way served as breaks.
The weather was such that not a single drop of rain fell, so the ground was dry and easy to walk on. In mid-April, the temperature was just warm enough to break a light sweat at times. I was enjoying myself, but honestly, while walking, I thought, "I have to walk this path again to get back." I might have even mentioned this to the guide. However, the return trip felt quicker, so it was all good.
一緒に参加予定の友達が脚の具合が悪くなって。その友達にも、屋久島に来たのだから行ってくるべきと言われて、1人申し込み。しかも、その日の白谷雲水峡苔むす森午後のツアーは私1人。私1人にガイドさん1人。専属ガイド、専属カメラマン状態でガイドして頂きました。私のペースで先導して頂き、写真スポットでは写真を何枚も撮って頂き、もちろん、森の木々や苔の説明から、屋久島の諸々のお話まで聞くことができました。迂回路で行かなくてはならないので、行きは2時間、帰りは1時間半かかりました。所々で写真撮るのが休憩になります。
1粒の雨も降らない天気だったので足元が濡れていなくて歩きやすかったと思います。4月中旬、季節的にも時々汗ばむ程度。
楽しんでいたけど、本当は、歩き進みながら、「この道を、もう一度、歩かないと帰れない」と思っていました。思うだけでなく、ガイドさんにも話したかな。
でも、帰りは早く感じるから大丈夫です。

The guide was very friendly and taught us a lot of things. Although it seemed like a path we could have taken without a tour, the explanations provided made it a truly moving experience. Around 13:30, we were taken to Awa, where we were able to see the Yakushima Nature Museum and the Jomon Sugi before catching our flight at 18:10.
とても気さくなガイドさんで、本当に色々なことを教えてくださいました。ツアーじゃなくても行けそうな道でしたが、説明があるからこそ、多くの感動がありました。13:30頃には安房に送っていただき、屋久島自然館や紀元杉を見て18:10の飛行機に乗ることができました。

I participated in the Jomon Sugi trekking and the Taiko Rock trekking on my last day in Yakushima, and it was a great decision! The driver and guide's stories allowed me to learn more about Yakushima, which was wonderful. Although the purpose of my visit was trekking, I was able to explore around Yakushima even in the morning. I encountered Yakushima monkeys and Yakushima deer multiple times. I was thrilled to see them while walking along the Western Forest Road, not just from the car. The sea was beautiful too!

I was very grateful to have someone come to pick me up at the hotel and prepare a bento for me. I appreciate the guide who made various adjustments to ensure we were on time. The expression "I was able to meet Jomon Sugi" feels just right. It was such a precious experience.

I am not good at driving, so I toured the island on the Yakuzaru bus. It's a well-designed sightseeing bus, and if you're visiting Yakushima for the first time, you'll definitely enjoy it. I wasn't expecting much from the lunch box, but the fried chicken and chawanmushi were warm and very delicious. However, the only downside is that if you participate alone, you have to pay an additional 2,500 yen, which is a bit disappointing.

On March 20th, we participated in a tour led by Sasaki with a total of seven people.
I usually work in an office and am a beginner at mountain climbing, so I was worried about my stamina before the tour. However, thanks to Sasaki's pacing with breaks and lending us shoe spikes when the snow made the path slippery, we were able to reach our destination safely without any injuries.
Throughout the tour, I honestly struggled to keep up rather than fully enjoying nature, but the entire experience, including the journey itself, was valuable. Thank you very much, Sasaki.
The feeling of awe and accomplishment when looking up at Jomon Sugi was overwhelming, but I also felt more fatigued than I expected, so I highly recommend this tour that includes hotel pick-up. I would like to build my stamina and repeat this experience during the fresh green season!
3月20日ガイドの佐々木さんパーティー計7人で挑みました。
普段はオフィスワーク・登山初心者なのでツアー前は体力が不安でしたが、佐々木さんの休憩を挟みながらのペース配分と途中雪が残っていて滑りやすかった際に靴底スパイクを貸していただいたおかげで怪我なく無事辿り着けました。
終始自然を楽しむよりも、正直ついていくのが精一杯でしたが、歩く過程含めて価値がある経験が出来ました。佐々木さん本当にありがとうございました。
縄文杉を見上げた時の感動と達成感の方が勝りますが、疲労も想像以上に感じるのでホテル送迎があるこのツアーを強くおすすめします。私もまた体力つけて新緑頃にリピートしたいです！

I participated in a trekking tour in Yakushima for the first time. Due to the impact of a typhoon, the course was changed and the distance was longer, but thanks to the guide's careful instructions, I was able to enjoy the climb.

The guide was a lively veteran at the age of 77. We arrived at Yakushima in the morning and participated in the half-day course in the afternoon. Trekking in light rain added a certain charm to the moss. I heard that it had been sunny until the day before, and at that time, the moss was completely dry. I actually appreciated the rainy weather.
The guide was a local who grew up in Yakushima and shared various stories with us. He brought fresh juice squeezed from "tankans" that he had planted in his garden, and as a reward for our efforts at the end, he treated us to the juice. It was sweet and delicious.

I used the tour on the morning of the day I was leaving Yakushima, departing at 13:45. I was a bit anxious about whether I would make it in time, but I really enjoyed the tour. The Chihiro Falls and Okawa Falls were quite impressive. On the Western Forest Road, monkeys were playing around, blocking the road. After seeing the monkeys twice, we spotted a deer. It felt like a safari park with all the wildlife. We finished about 10 minutes earlier than scheduled, which gave us time to buy souvenirs at the Furusato Market, and we arrived at the airport comfortably by bus.

When you think of Yakushima, you think of Jomon Sugi, so I signed up with a light heart, but it was tougher than I imagined. Without the encouragement from the group members with guide Mr. Mitsuhashi, I definitely wouldn't have made it. He was a really great guide, and he took some wonderful photos for us.

On March 22, we were blessed with wonderful weather, making it the perfect day for trekking. There were six of us in the group, and the guide was attentive and kind, considering the participants' fitness levels and adjusting the pace accordingly. Everyone in the group was nice, and we enjoyed walking together throughout the long journey. Even when it was tough, I think we were able to go and come back thanks to the guide's support. Jomon Sugi is truly breathtaking. The guide took many photos for us, and being a professional, he knew all the best photo spots and had great compositions. If you're someone who thinks of this as a once-in-a-lifetime visit, I highly recommend joining a tour, as you might miss some highlights if you go on your own.

6人のグループでしたがガイドの方が丁寧で親切に参加者の体力を考慮しペース配分など対応していただけました。グループの方も皆さん良い人で長い道中、楽しく歩けました。
辛くても諦めず全員で行って帰ってこれたのはガイドさんの力が大きいかなと思います。縄文杉は圧巻の素晴らしさです。ガイドさんが沢山、写真も撮ってくださいました。やはりプロのガイドさんだと写真ポイントも押さえているし構図もバッチリです。個人で行くと見所を見忘れたりする事もあるので、一生に一度訪れる場所と思っている人程、ツアー参加が私としてはお勧めです。

I chose to depart at 5:00 due to my schedule. It was still dark and raining, but since there were few people, I was able to walk at my own pace. Before we set off, the guide explained that considering the rain, we might only be able to go partway, and there was a possibility we might not be able to cross the second stream, but we wouldn't know until we tried. I was really happy with the guide's kind and thorough explanations, encouraging us to enjoy the experience. In the end, we had to give up on crossing the second stream as it was already swollen and dangerous.
I couldn't help but think that if we had made it to Taiko Rock as planned, or at least to the mossy forest, or if it hadn't been raining, it would have been nice. However, I was satisfied with the beauty of the moss that we could see in the rain, the fear of the water, and the guide's explanations. I think it was physically demanding, but if I have the chance to go again, I would like to request the same tour with the same guide.
日程の都合で5:00出発を選びました、あいにくの雨の中まだ暗い時間の出発でしたが人も少ないためマイペースで歩けました。
出発前には雨の状況を考え途中までしか行けないかも知れないと説明があり、もしかしたらふたつ目の沢も渡れないかも知れないが行ってみないとわからないとの事でした。それでも楽しんで欲しいと言うガイドさんの親切丁寧な説明がいっぱいあり嬉しかったです。結果的にはふたつ目の沢はすでに増水していて危険との事で断念しました。
予定通り太鼓岩まで行けていたら、せめて苔むすの森まで行けていたら、雨が降ってなかったら、と思う気持ちは残りましたが雨の中だから見れた苔の美しさ、水の怖さ、ガイドさんの説明、すべてで満足出来ました。
体力的に厳しいと思いますがまた行く機会があれば同じツアーで同じガイドさんにお願いしたいと思います。

We signed up as two 21-year-old girls. I thought there would be other participants, but that day it was just the two of us and a guide, an older man in his 60s.
Right at the start of the trekking, at a waterfall, he suddenly grabbed my face firmly and made me look up. I was told to just do it without understanding why, and it turned out he wanted to take a picture of us drinking water. トレッキング開始早々にあった滝で、顔をいきなりがっしりと掴まれて、上を向かされました。いいから！と言われ意味もわからずされるがままに上を向き、終わった時に水を飲んでいるような写真を撮るためだったとわかりました。ニヤニヤしていたし、必要以上に顔を触ってきたので気持ちが悪かったのですが3時間も一緒に登ると思うと嫌だと言えませんでした。
その後も、シカのポーズで写真を撮ろうと言われ、その通りにすると、「メスはツノが生えないんだよ、だから2人は男性ホルモンが多いんだね」と言われたり、転んで尻餅をつくと「お尻なでなでするわけにはいかないもんねぇ？」など他にも気持ち悪いことを言われたり、触られそうになりました。
また、自然を楽しみたかったのに自分の話ばかりしたり、必要以上に話しかけてきて、せっかく綺麗な森にいるのに台無しでした。ツアーの目的地に着いて、好きなだけいていいよと言われましたが、1秒でも早く下山してガイドの人と離れたかったので、もういいですと言うと、苔のよさはまだわからないかぁ、もったいないなあと言われ、ガイドがこの人ではなかったら私たちだってこんな風にならなかったのに。本当に最悪でした。
これらを直接言えたらよかったのですが、参加者か私たちだけだったのと、私たちがまだ若いので言っても流されて聞いてもらえないだろうなと諦めてしまいました。
トレッキングの最中は本当にずっとずっと嫌で、卒業旅行で楽しみにしていたのに、最悪の思い出になってしまいました。自分たちが21歳の女子だからこうなったんだろうなと思うと自分まで嫌になるね、と友達と会話をしたくらい最悪なガイドでした。星ひとつもつけたくありません。
