In the moss-covered space I expected, I was energized by the various trees, including Yakusugi, which grow tall and firmly root themselves even in limited soil. I observed the coexistence of second and third-generation cedars, along with many other species intricately overlapping. The vitality that connects even natural disasters to the forest's survival was truly inspiring. The guide provided timely and appropriate explanations, making the walk enjoyable.
期待通りの苔むした空間に、少ない土でも広くしっかり根をはり高く伸びる屋久杉をはじめ様々な木々、二代・3代杉や着生して何種類もの木が複雑に重なり合いながら共存する様、自然災害をも森の存続につなげる生命力にエネルギーを十分もらいました。
ガイドさんも適時・適切に説明をしてくれて楽しく歩けました。

The guide took many breaks to accommodate us and was very knowledgeable, teaching us a lot of things we didn't know, which made the experience really enjoyable up to a certain point. However, at one point, they brought up something we didn't want to discuss, and it seemed like they thought it was a joke, as they continued to mention it on the way back. When we showed signs of being upset, they said, "Oh, you're sulking," and continued the conversation with malicious questions and reactions. It was very uncomfortable, and from that moment on, I just wanted to go home quickly and couldn't enjoy the beautiful scenery. My family had a good time, so I want to express my gratitude, but I personally do not want to request this again. I think it's best not to have an attitude that belittles customers.

I'm glad I could participate in this tour that I gave up on last year. Since I can't drive and I'm traveling alone, I think it's a great opportunity for people like me to join. The Oishi Seirinsan course was easy to walk. I managed to walk two courses (it was great). I also thought it was nice that I could listen to the audio guide on the bus. The seafood lunch was really delicious. The tour guide was cheerful... We were blessed with good weather, and I was able to achieve the main purpose of this trip, making it a satisfying experience.
昨年はあきらめたこのツアーに参加できてよかった。
一人旅で車の運転ができないので、私のような人はぜひ参加してよいと思います。

I thoroughly enjoyed the trekking at Daishi Forest Mountain. Since there were only six participants, we had plenty of time in our itinerary. The guide's talk was enjoyable, and the bus ride was fun as well.
大石林山トレッキングを堪能できました。

The northern region is recommended as it can only be accessed by rental car.

I heard that due to the severe cold wave, it has often been difficult to reach Jomon Sugi recently, so I thought it would be nice to at least make it partway there. However, thanks to our guide Yoshioka's appropriate encouragement, perfect pacing, and consideration, I was able to reach the end. Walking in the snow was challenging, but he taught us how to walk properly, so I started to get the hang of it. I learned a lot, not just about mountain climbing but also various other things. I'm really glad I participated because I was able to see such beautiful scenery.
大寒波の影響でここ最近は縄文杉までたどり着けないことが多いと聞き、途中まででも行ければいいかと思いながらの参加でした。
しかし、ガイドの吉岡さんの適度な脅しと完璧なペース配分と気遣いのおかげで最後までたどり着くことができました。雪の中を歩くのは難しかったですが、歩き方も教えてくれたのでコツがつかめてきました。山登りだけでなく色々なことが聞けて勉強になりました。とても美しい景色を見ることができたので参加して本当によかったです。
I recommend preparing items that provide good warmth, as it can get very cold during breaks.

When I made the reservation for February 18 last September, I was informed that "there might be snow in February." Just as expected, I heard three days ago that "due to last week's cold wave, the Jomon Sugi Trail has snow, and the road to the trailhead is completely closed." I was half resigned to this, but during a phone call the day before, I was pleasantly surprised to hear, "The road has opened today, so the trekking tomorrow will proceed, but there is still snow up to knee height, so if you're okay with a tour to wherever we can go, please join us. You can enjoy sightseeing all the way to Cape Hedo, the northernmost point, in just one day. The seafood lunch was as delicious as others have commented. The melt-in-your-mouth squid sashimi was amazing to taste in this tropical setting! For those who are not fond of sashimi, the vegetable tempura was also said to be delicious. After lunch, we were served shikuwasa jelly and cake on the bus. Eating and drinking are allowed on the bus, so you can enjoy dessert while taking in the scenery from the window. Participants from China, South Korea, English-speaking countries, and French-speaking countries joined the tour. I was impressed by how the guide managed to bring together such a diverse group with just the right amount of distance. Thanks to this tour, I was able to have a great time without needing a rental car!

The tour guide was very nice and assisted us in both Japanese and English. For lunch, we had a delicious fish dish. My companion, who doesn't eat fish, was accommodated with a tempura lunch instead. I am grateful to the tour guide and the restaurant staff. We also enjoyed the weather at Yanbaru National Park and Cape Hedo. It was a well-planned tour.

This was our first time in Yakushima, and it was my elementary school daughter's first trekking experience as well. Since we were a bit anxious about going alone, my husband arranged for a private guide.
The trekking was so much fun thanks to our guide, Sachi, who explained about the Yakusugi trees and plants in detail using a whiteboard! Additionally, she took frequent breaks to match my younger daughter's pace, allowing us to climb at our own speed. Along the way, we were thrilled to see deer, which made the kids very happy.
The final ascent was tough, but the view when we reached Taiko Rock was amazing, and we all exclaimed, "Wow!" The sense of accomplishment and the scenery from the top is something I will never forget. I believe we were able to reach Taiko Rock because of Sachi's guidance. If it had just been our family, we might have given up along the way (laughs).
Trekking with a guide versus without is completely different, so I highly recommend this tour.
Even now, our family often reminisces about the trekking experience. Thanks to Sachi, we've fallen in love with Yakushima, and we want to go back as a family again. Thank you, Sachi!
今回、初めての屋久島、そして小学生の娘は初めてのトレッキングでした。家族だけでは不安ということで主人が貸し切りガイドさんを頼んでくれました。
トレッキングはガイドのさちさんが屋久杉や植物のこと等を詳しくホワイトボードを使って説明してくださったので、とーーっても楽しく登れました！！
また、下の娘のペースに合わせ、こまめに休憩を取ってくださったので自分達のペースで登れました。途中、鹿を見れて子供達も大喜びでした。
最後の登りはきつかったですが、太鼓岩に着いた時の眺めは素晴らしく、思わずみんな「わぁ〜〜‼️」と声が出ました。登り切った時の達成感、景色は一生忘れないと思います。
今回、太鼓岩まで行けたのはガイドのさちさんがいてくれたからだと思っています。家族だけだったら途中で諦めてたかもです（笑）
ガイドさん「ありorなし」でのトレッキングは全く違うので、このツアーは本当にオススメです。
今でも家族でトレッキングの思い出話をよくしています。さちさんのおかげで屋久島が大好きになったので、また家族で行きたいと思っています。

I rented hiking boots and a backpack, and it was great not having to prepare my own gear. They were clean, so I was glad I rented them.

This is my fifth time in Okinawa, but I had never been to the northern part, so I joined this tour. As usual, most participants were foreigners, but this tour provided earphone guides and pamphlets tailored to each participant's language at the beginning. During the tour, when the guide signaled "Please turn on your earphone guide," the next sightseeing explanation was provided in each participant's language through the earphone guide.
There are tours where explanations are mainly in Chinese, leaving Japanese participants behind, so I thought this was fair and well thought out.
There were about 15 participants, but they arranged a large bus, allowing us to enjoy the sightseeing comfortably.
沖縄には５回目ぐらいですが、北部に行ったことないのでこのツアーに参加しました。

中国語での説明が主で日本人参加者は放置のツアーもあるので(^^;(^^;
これは公平で工夫されていていいなと思いました。
１５人ぐらいの参加者でしたが大型のバスを手配してくれてゆったり観光することが出来ました。

I've been to Okinawa three or four times, but this is my first time visiting after the New Year and all the way to the northern tip. I had only ever toured the beaches and Shuri Castle, but this time it was a very interesting and enjoyable trip as we were able to experience history and nature that we didn't know about. Since we didn't have a driver, we joined a one-day tour, which was a great deal and packed with highlights. The guide's explanations were professional and fun, and the fish for lunch was very delicious. I was very satisfied!

Only three family members participated on New Year's Day. The grandeur of the Yakusugi trees was breathtaking, and although the temperature was 3°C, the humidity exceeded 70%, making the moss incredibly beautiful and soothing. It turned out to be a fun trekking tour that wasn't too strenuous. The guide took many photos for us, which we received via AirDrop at the end. They made us delicious miso soup for lunch. It was quite cold at the end of the year. The trolley path on the way there was frozen, and crossing a bridge without handrails made me nervous, thinking I could break a bone if I fell. (Regarding the rental of crampons)
I was told over the phone that the rental fee was 500 yen, but when I received them the day before, it was 1000 yen, and I was told that the guide would teach me how to put them on. ガイドというと、屋久島の自然ついて詳しく教えてもらえると思っていましたが、現場のガイドさんたちは時間に追われてる印象です。ガイドさんたちにも、案内する責任もあるので、仕方ないと思うですが、少し残念な気持ちでした。
ガイドさんはグループのみんなに、縄文杉は時間をかければ誰でもいけるが、ツアーとなると集団行動になり時間制限があって、17時を過ぎるとタクシー代が宿代以上にかかると話していました。
その点については、前日の電話での確認事項のときに、話しておいた方がいいと思います。

I thought it would be really cold, so I dressed warmly, but as the guide informed us, it did rain, yet it was quite hot while climbing, so I didn't need to wear so much. I went on the Jomon Sugi tour followed by the Shiratani Unsuikyo tour on consecutive days, and I must say, the Shiratani Unsuikyo tour was incredibly enjoyable. The breathtaking view from Taiko Rock left me speechless.
Many people, like myself, who visit Jomon Sugi the day before tend to opt for the half-day course to the mossy forest due to fatigue, but it's only an additional 40 minutes to reach Taiko Rock, so I highly recommend going. The muscle pain and fatigue aren't bothersome while climbing, and adding 40 minutes doesn't make much of a difference. Plus, you get to enjoy a stunning view and have a leisurely lunch, making it quite worthwhile.
As expected from a gorge, there is plenty of water and moss, creating a very mystical and refreshing atmosphere. It feels so surreal that you can't help but wonder when the Kodama or mountain deities might appear.

私のように前日に縄文杉に行くと、疲労から白谷雲水峡ツアーを苔むす森までの半日コースにされる方が多いようですが、太鼓岩までは+40分ほどなので、絶対に行った方がいいです。筋肉痛や疲労は登っていれば気にならず40分増やしたところで大して変わらないですし、絶景を一望できるうえ、昼食もゆっくり摂れるので色々とお得です🙆♀️
水峡なだけに水や苔が多く、とても幻想的でリフレッシュできます。いつこだまや山神様が出てくるのだろう…と思ってしまうほど、非現実的な空間を楽しめます。

Since it was a trekking tour, I expected it to be like hiking, but in reality, it's quite difficult in light clothing and consumes a lot of energy. For those who don't have much experience and can't imagine what equipment is necessary, I recommend renting everything.
On the day of the tour, it was rare for December to have snow, which made it particularly challenging to navigate beyond the trolley path. I didn't have the luxury to enjoy the scenery; it was more of a battle to avoid slipping. However, the sight of Jomon Sugi after all the hard work was overwhelming, and all my fatigue disappeared.
There are several breaks along the way, and you can take photos at places like the Wilson stump, so you can keep good records of your experience, and the fatigue becomes manageable. I definitely recommend this for those who don't often have the opportunity to go.
トレッキングツアーということだったので、ハイキング感覚でいましたが、実際には軽装では難しいですし、体力を結構消費しますので、あまり経験がなくどんな装備が必要かイメージが付かない方は、全てレンタルすることをオススメします。
当日は12月では珍しく雪も降った日だったことも相まって、特にトロッコ道から先の行き来に関しては、景色を満喫する余裕もなく、滑落しないかの戦いでなかなかシビアでした。
ですが、苦労の末の縄文杉の姿には圧倒され、疲れがすっかり吹き飛びます。
途中何回か休憩もありますし、ウィルソン株などで写真も撮っていただけるので、しっかり記録も残すことができますし、疲れも何とかなります。
なかなか行く機会がない方には是非行くことをお勧めします。

I participated after building up some stamina, but the recent route changes due to the typhoon were particularly challenging. I felt that sufficient physical strength was necessary.
It’s hard to know until the day of the trek, but I think compatibility with the guide is also important for enjoying the experience. This time, our guide pointed out our lack of stamina.
The scenery was very beautiful. The rivers that spread out before us, the many cedars along the way, and the moss-covered forest at the end were breathtaking. It was a wonderful experience to see all of these!
