It was my first experience riding a horse, but the horse was calm and smart, which made me feel safe while riding. Being a Dosanko, it was also nice that it was a bit smaller.

The exhilaration of galloping across the wide fields of grass and reeds was unbeatable.

The pace varied between a trot and sometimes a faster gait, which was incredibly fun, and I became hooked on horseback riding. The grasslands of Hokkaido are truly exceptional.

次回もまたレンタルしたいです。

I was very anxious since it was my first time riding a horse, but thanks to the kind staff and the horses, I had a wonderful time!

I took a basic lesson for about 30 minutes on how to ride, hold the reins, walk, stop, turn, and trot, and then we headed to the beach through the road.

The weather was nice, and I enjoyed a lovely time while looking at the beautiful sea.

During the tour, they provided barley tea to prevent heatstroke, and I received the photos taken by the staff during the experience. They also took pictures with my smartphone, showing great consideration.

There were also cute dogs at the riding club, which was very soothing.

Although it was a mama-chari type and there were a few scratches on the body, it didn't quite give me the "feel-good vibes" from the appearance (laughs), but the maintenance was excellent, so the ride was fantastic! From 12 PM to 7 PM, I was able to zip around Kyoto efficiently, visiting all the places I wanted to see, which was refreshing. The highlight was enjoying the autumn foliage illumination at Eikando, deep in Nanzenji, until 6 PM, and then racing down to Kyoto Station's return terminal in just 45 minutes. For someone like me who gets lost easily, a bicycle is definitely the way to go in grid-like Kyoto! Perhaps due to the autumn foliage season, the 1-day plan I used for 1,300 yen was fully booked on the day, so I was really glad I made a reservation in advance. Since I was taking a night bus home, I wanted to maximize my exploration time, so I would have been happier if there was a plan available until 8 PM instead of 7 PM.

ママチャリタイプだったのと、本体に少しキズがあったので、「見た目からして気分アゲアゲ」とはいきませんでしたが（笑）、メンテナンスが行き届いているので、走りごこちは最高！12時から19時まで、京都市街を縦横無尽に走り回って、行きたい場所を効率よく回れたのは爽快でした。中でも痛快だったのは、18時まで南禅寺のさらに奥、永観堂で紅葉ライトアップを堪能してから、一気に京都をかけ下って、45分で京都駅の返却ターミナルにつけたこと。方向音痴なワタシでも、碁盤の目状の京都なら【自転車】に限ります！紅葉シーズンのためか、私の利用した1day1300円のプランは当日、全車貸出中だったので、事前に予約しておいて本当に良かったです。夜行バスで帰る身としては、少しでも散策時間を長くしたいので、欲を言えば19:00まででなく、20:00までのプランがあると嬉しいですねぇ。

I made a reservation for a course to explore Asakusa in a yukata. On the day of the tour, I received a call from the guide before the scheduled time, and I was able to smoothly meet up with the rickshaw at the designated time.

This was our first time to ride a rickshaw, we joined the 12 minutes (was actually longer than 12 minutes) Kaminarimon course. The guide called us 10 minutes before our reservation time and met us in front the Kaminarimon, and then guided us to the rickshaw place. The rickshaw man was very friendly and professional, he explained every spot we passed by and also told us the stories of some famous spots. And of course we took many nice photos with the old Tokyo style background, the rickshaw men were also professional photographers! This was definitely one of our best experiences in Tokyo, and we strongly recommend it to you!

Starting from Chitose's Meisui Park, we cycled along a forest trail to Lake Shikotsu. The way there was mostly uphill, and there weren't any notable sights until we reached the lake. We had lunch near the lake and took a detour on the way back through a gravel forest path. The guide wasn't very good at explaining things, so it felt like we were just pedaling the whole time. There were some nice restaurants along the cycling route, so I think the tour could be improved by including more interesting stops, places to have lunch, or introducing beautiful spots to make it more memorable. To summarize, I believe the tour should: 1) include breaks for meals at notable restaurants along the way, 2) stop at must-see sights around Lake Shikotsu, and promote events during specific seasons, such as the salmon run or autumn foliage, which would require considerable effort from the tour organizers.

It would be too tough on us to walk around all the way. We had a nice breakfast at a cafe off the main road, and then took a break at nearby the main temple gate, having bought red-bean rice balls from a famous store which will usually is sold out in the morning. It was very fun. I think we covered quite a lot of ground.
By the way, more information on the bike parking lots would be appreciated.

Walking tours have their limits, so this time, cycling was comfortable. Jun was a very good tour guide. I had a good time biking from Chitose to Shikotsuko and back. He gave me a choice for which off-road route to take on the way back as well. It was a very nice time. The bike was in great condition and Jun had even brought rain gear for me since it was sprinkling a bit (even though I had my own I wore this too just in case).

The entire journey took 5 hours. I thought the roads might be clear, so I used the service on a Sunday. The rental location was very close to Kyoto Station, which made me feel very secure when returning the bike. This was a big plus. Moreover, the bicycles were well-maintained, providing a sense of safety with the brakes and tires. They were completely different from the mama-chari bikes offered by hotels.

Kyoto is said to be laid out like a grid, and that was definitely true. Once I figured out the general directions, I felt I could get around much more efficiently than by train. Especially in the Higashiyama area, where there are many attractions but limited train access, I often end up walking around and getting tired, so I felt like I really got my money's worth.

The route allowed me to efficiently visit my desired spots in a clockwise direction, covering the north, south, east, and west. There were few hills, and there were also side streets with little traffic, which made for a safer ride than I expected. The only real hills were a bit around Higashiyama. Above all, I was able to enjoy the "everyday Kyoto" that isn't featured in guidebooks at a leisurely pace, making for a very meaningful experience. It was nice to see the city from a local perspective.

If it's your first time in Kyoto, renting a bike and exploring on your own might be a bit challenging. Initially, the classic bus tours or indulging a bit with a charter taxi would be more convenient and reassuring. However, for repeat visitors who might want to revisit certain places at a more leisurely pace, this bike rental is definitely worth it.

Route taken: Total of 5 hours (including 30 minutes for lunch)
1. North from Kyoto Station: Shijo (along Muromachi Street), Nijo Castle, Ichijo Modoribashi, and Kamigamo Shrine.
2. From Kamigamo Shrine southeast: Kitayama Station and Shimogamo Shrine.
3. From Shimogamo Shrine to Higashiyama: Kyoto University, Ginkaku-ji, Philosopher's Path, and Nanzen-ji.
4. From Nanzen-ji back to Kyoto Station: Heian Shrine, Chion-in, Maruyama Park, Gion (lunch), crossing the Kamo River, passing Higashi Hongan-ji, and then to Kyoto Station.

全行程５時間。道路も空いているかな、と思い日曜日に利用しました。借りる場所が京都駅からすぐ近く、ということもあり、戻ってくる際もとても安心して利用できました。これはポイント高かったです。また、なにより、かなり自転車がちゃんと整備されていて、ブレーキやタイヤから感じる安心感がありました。ホテルが貸してくれる、ママチャリとはぜんぜん違います。笑

京都は碁盤の目といわれますが、まさにその通りで、だいたいの方向がわかれば、電車よりもずっと効率よくまわることができたように思いました。特に東山地区は見所が多い割には電車の便がよくないため、結局歩き回って疲れる、というパターンなので、とても得した気分でした。

コースは、ほぼ東西南北を時計まわりに、いきたいところに効率よくいけました。坂道も少なく、また大きな通りのちょっと脇道には車通りの少ない道もあるので、思っていたよりも安全に走行できたのもよかったです。坂といえるような坂は東山あたりで少しあったぐらいでしょうか。なによりも、ガイドブックにのっていない「普段の京都」をゆっくり楽しみながらまわれて、とても有意義な時間をすごせました。ローカルの目線で街をみれたのもよかった。

はじめての京都だと、自転車を借りて自分であちこちまわるのはちょっと厳しいかもしれません。最初はやはり定番のバス観光やちょっとだけぜいたくをしてチャータータクシーがずっと便利で安心しょう。でもリピータの方なら、あそこをもう一度、もうちょっとゆっくりみたかった、という方には、この自転車レンタルはとても価値高いと思います。

まわったコース：計５時間（うち３０分ランチタイム）
１、京都駅から北上：四条（室町通り沿い）、二条城、一条戻橋、上賀茂（賀茂別雷）神社へ。
２、上賀茂神社から南東へ：北山駅、下鴨（賀茂御祖）神社へ。
３、下鴨神社から東山へ：京都大学、銀閣寺、哲学の道、南禅寺へ。
４、南禅寺から京都駅まで：平安神宮、知恩院、円山公園、祇園（ランチ）、鴨川を渡り、東本願寺を経て、京都駅へ。
