At first, I thought, "There's no way I can carve glass!" and "What if I mess up and can't fix it?" I hesitated, but I'm glad I decided to go for it.

There was an explanation and practice at the beginning, and even if things didn't go perfectly during the actual session, the instructor helped to some extent, and in the end, I was able to create something!

Achieving symmetry or carving the same pattern to the same size can be quite challenging, so sticking to a simpler design might actually work better!

It's a unique experience that you can't have just anywhere, so I highly recommend it. The classroom is located above a shop, so you can not only create but also purchase authentic Edo Kiriko glassware. Just browsing the store is a treat for the eyes!

The glasses are neatly packed in a box and placed in a paper bag, making them easy to take home! I think they would make great souvenirs for foreigners, and I encourage Japanese people to try it at least once! Highly recommended! (*^^*)

A maiko named Kanohisa from Gion Higashi came to visit, and she was incredibly cute, like a doll.

The venue has tatami flooring, so you need to take off your shoes to enter. There are about eight rows of four-person tables, with designated areas for SS, S2, S3, and A seats. Since there were few guests and the front was empty, we were able to pay an additional fee on the day to move up and sit closer.

When the maiko appears, she first performs a dance. Next, there is a Q&A session where the maiko answers various questions. After that, you can take photos with her, either in pairs or in groups. Additionally, several people can try out traditional games with the maiko.

The food is provided by a catering service and was tastier than I expected. However, after the maiko appears, you won't have much time to eat, so it might be better to finish your meal before she arrives.

The seats at the back of the venue are quite far from the maiko, so since this is a special opportunity, I recommend choosing seats closer to the front.

The experience was packed with content, and I was able to enjoy watching the maiko closely and take plenty of photos and videos. I was very satisfied.

会場は畳敷きで靴を脱いであがります。4人がけのテーブルが8列ほど並んでいて、前からSS、S2、S3、A席の範囲がきまっています。お客さんが少なくて前方が空いていたため、当日追加料金を払って前に詰めて座る事ができました。

舞妓さんが登場すると、まずは舞を1曲披露してくれます。次はQ &Aのコーナーで色々と質問に舞妓さんが答えてくれます。
その後、舞妓さんとツーショットやグループで写真を撮ってもらえます。

While I was interested in playing games with the maiko and geiko, the hurdle of being turned away as a first-time visitor was high. Recently, however, there have been more experience plans available, and I was able to enjoy a fun introduction to playing games with the maiko more easily than I expected.

I reserved a slightly better seat, S2, for an additional fee. Fortunately, there were no guests in the SS seats, so I had a great view.

The meal was from a famous catering company, and although it was cold (which can't be helped), it was delicious.

It felt like we ate during the question corner and game experiences (during my visit, we played Konpira Funefune).

You could order drinks at the beginning, with soft drinks costing around 300 yen, and it seems that if you order sake, the maiko will serve it to you.

The only downside was that the catering and drink preparations came from the stage side (the front), so I noticed staff coming in and out during the dances and questions.

I was able to ask various questions about how the maiko's kanzashi changes every month, the characteristics of their costumes, and the differences in attire between first-year and second-year maiko.

唯一、難があるとすれば、仕出しや飲み物の準備が舞台側（正面）からでてくるので、踊りや質問の間にスタッフさんがチラホラ出入りするのが気になったことくらい。

舞妓さんのかんざしが毎月変わること、衣装の特徴、一年目と二年目以降の舞妓さんの装いの違いなど、色々質問も出来ました。

舞妓さんにおねえはん、と呼ばれて写真一緒に撮ったり、遊んだりは、中々こそばゆい体験で、楽しかったです。

私は2人で参加でしたが、1人で参加する方も何組かいました。

The dinner with the maiko was good, but I was quite concerned about the lack of hospitality from the management.

◆ Difficult to see the stage
Since you are seated, I think the cheapest seats are quite hard to see from. Because you are not sitting on the floor, your view is very limited. However, despite purchasing the cheapest seat, I was upgraded to the next tier due to overbooking by the management, which allowed me to see somewhat better. Without this, I think I would have given it 2 stars.

◆ Staff passing by during the maiko's performance
The stage for the maiko was narrow, and next to it was the kitchen, where staff were moving around to get drinks while the maiko was performing, which was very distracting. There was a partition for the kitchen, but it was a shame that they didn't find a way to avoid passing right next to the maiko.

◆質問時間が盛り上がらないどころか失礼
舞妓さんの演目の後に、舞妓さんの説明がないまま質問コーナーを入ってしまうため、何を質問していいか困ってしまい、私やツアーガイドが気を使って質問しているような状態でした。
また、外国人の出身を聞く際、ウェールズから来た人に対して、舞妓さんが「何処？」って答えてしまったり、司会が「舞妓さんはウェールズは知らないけどスコットランドは知ってました」というフォローする相手も内容も意味不明なことを言っていて、せっかく日本に来たのにおもてなしできてなくて、日本人としてちょっと悲しい気分になりました。

Edo Kiriko dates back to 1836 and was recognized as a traditional Tokyo craft in 1985.

Using clear or colored glass, artisans sketch a design and use a grinder to cut intricate patterns (including flowers, leaves, bamboo woven baskets, and more modern interpretations).

In this one-hour workshop at Sokichi in Asakusa, you’ll have the chance to learn how Edo Kiriko is created. You start with practicing on a sample glass, then choose and sketch your design and cut your design.

At the end, you’ll have a chance to photograph your finished masterpiece.

Instruction and guidance was given in English and Japanese.

The operator of this class was amazing. The class wasn’t long so it kept my day more open than others, that let me fit in more activities on the day. I learned a bit about the history of Samples and got to make a souvenir that ‘ thanks to the instructors help ‘ came out perfect. Also this was a great place to get souvenirs for everyone back home. Not many souvenirs say Japan better than a plastic sushi key chain.

Looking at the finished products you will have no idea how this process is performed. The instructor explained everything clearly and helped me create a one of a kind souvenir. I have a new appreciation for the symmetry of Kiriko glass work after participating in this class and learning how skilled the craftsmen are.

We participated in this sunset cruise as a family trip, coinciding with the timing of our younger child starting their career in spring. We were blessed with good weather on the day, enjoying our meal while gazing at the sparkling sea from the orange-tinted interior of the boat.

The food was more substantial than we had imagined, providing a satisfying experience for the price. After the meal, there was plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos on the deck. Although it was the last week of February, the deck felt a bit chilly as the sun set, so I think it would be good to have something to wear. I would definitely like to participate again on another occasion.

下の子供が春から社会人というタイミングの家族旅行でこのサンセットクルーズに参加。当日は天候に恵まれ、オレンジに染まる船内でキラキラ輝く海を眺めながら食事を楽しみました。
お料理は想像していたよりもボリュームがあり、お値段の割に満足感がありました。食事の後にデッキで景色を眺めたり写真を撮ったりする時間も充分にあります。2月の最終週でしたが、日が暮れてくるとデッキは風が少し肌寒く感じたので羽織るものがあると良いかと思います。またの機会には是非参加したいです。

Traditional Yakatabune River Cruise with Lunch or Dinner in Tokyo

This was my first time on a Yakatabune and it was a unique and amazing experience. We travelled down the river to see views of the Rainbow Bridge, Skytree and Tokyo Tower. The Yakatabune stopped twice to let us go outside onto the roof to take photos. The night view of Tokyo was amazing.

We had a really nice table inside, with delicious Japanese food like sashimi and tempura. There was more than enough food and unlimited drinks.

I'd highly reccomend this for couples or a family.

My child had been wanting to experience making food samples for a while, so we signed up here. We registered for the 11 o'clock session, but the voucher stated that the meeting time was 10 o'clock, so we arrived an hour early. When I explained the situation, they kindly welcomed us in, saying they were ready, which was a relief.

At first, my child seemed a bit nervous, but the staff were very kind and explained everything in detail, and my child appeared to be enjoying it. I was just observing, but I was able to listen to the explanations about the food samples and how to make them, which made me feel like I was participating as well, and it was a lot of fun! They also said we could take photos freely, which made for wonderful memories. Both my child and I were very satisfied!

11時からの回に申し込みましたが、バウチャーで集合時間が10時になっていて、1時間も早く到着してしまいた。事情を説明したところ、準備ができてるので、どうぞと快く迎えてくださりホッとしました。
子供は最初、緊張気味でしたが、とても親切、丁寧に説明して頂き、楽しんでる様子でした。
私は見学でしたが、一緒に食品サンプルについての説明や、作り方の説明も聞けて自分も参加してる気分になり、とても楽しかったです！写真もご自由にどうぞとの事で、とてもいい思い出になりました。

It was advertised as a tour of the vast ocean, but it seems we didn't actually go out into the open sea. However, it was a bit cloudy, and the food was good, so we enjoyed ourselves while dining.

The pier was easy to find, and there were several boats lined up and we were so excited and tried to ride each one, there was a man at the pier who finally told us which one was our boat.

It was funny watching everyone coming down the earlier boats because they all looked tipsy!

When we got on board, the tables were already set with appetizers, and each table was assigned to a group. It was very interesting to see what each of the appetizers were, then we noticed a pot that had sukiyaki ready to cook!!! We tried the peach plum cocktail (all you can drink!)

We got served yummy shrimp, fish, veg tempura, then the candle under the sukiyaki pot was lit, as the boat sailed towards Odaiba. There was a stop at at Odaiba for a chance at amazing cityscape photos. By the time the candle burned out the sukiyaki was done - and it was very good and tasted clean and fresh.

Then there was a fun lion dance performed by one of the waiters - which was funny and quite entertaining.

All in all a fun first time experience for a Yakatabune cruise - would recommend you try it if you've never done one before.

It was my first experience on a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat). There was singing and dancing, providing enjoyment beyond just the food and scenery, and I was very satisfied. When we boarded, there were just under 40 guests, with about 90% being Japanese. The food was very delicious and the portions were ample. The sashimi and meat were tasty, but the highlight was the freshly fried tempura. They served us hot anago (conger eel), squid, and shrimp. The drinks included a variety of options such as beer, chuhai, wine, and umeshu (plum wine).

From the yakatabune, we could see the Tokyo Skytree and Odaiba. It was especially great to get close to the waterborne Olympic monument set up in Odaiba and take photos. The boat trip lasted about two and a half hours, and it was a lot of fun. I’m considering taking a ride again during cherry blossom season or fireworks season.

私たちが乗船した時は４０名弱のお客さんとの乗り合いで、日本人が９割という感じでした。食べ物はとても美味しく、また、ボリュームも十分でした。お刺身やお肉も美味しかったですが、一番は揚げたての天ぷらでした。アナゴやイカ、エビなどを揚げたてのものを運んでいただく形です。飲み物はビールや酎ハイ、ワインに梅酒と一通りの飲み物は揃っていました。
屋形船からの景色はスカイツリーやお台場を眺めることができました。特にお台場に設置された水上の五輪モニュメントは船で接近して写真を撮ることができて非常によかったです。
およそ２時間半の船旅でしたが、とても楽しかったです。また花見の季節や花火の季節での乗船を検討しようと思います。

The overal experience with this activity is marvelous. The staff is very friendly and patience in introducing the activity, as well as some history of the Food Sample Culture in Japan, which is a bonus point. You can tell he is very enthusiastic and enjoying this experience. Just an extra note, we communicated without any issue in English.

You get to choose your five pieces of colourful assorted accessories for your sundae. The cup of the sundae and the colourful jam at the bottom will be provided. You have to first fill up the base of the sundae cup, then the twirling cream at the top and place your assortments as you wish. The staff carefully checked every steps of the process, also fix any errors professionally. You will be guarenteed a outstanding food sample even for your first try.

As for the advice for future participants, since it takes a while for the food sample to dry off, it is better you plan your activites accordingly. Although, the staff did carefully stabilised the food samples in a provided paper box (in a very meticulous way, props to that) and bag so it was not an issue for us.

You will be informed for every tiny details to produce a perfect looking tart. I am sure you will be amazed how meticulous it can be for such a simple-looking task.

This was a wonderful experience that allowed my partner and I to see and do three of the things we had on our Kyoto bucket list: Enjoy a tradition Japanese meal, watch a beautiful Maiko perform, and so see the stellar night views of Kyoto! Make sure you bring your camera, as you will want to capture all the beauty of the night! I brought my polaroid and it was a big hit among other guest and the Maiko-san herself! Highly recommend taking this tour!
