I experienced kintsugi for the first time. I found Kuge Craft on Google Maps and loved the warm and calming atmosphere. The owner couple was very kind and taught us patiently.

I brought a small plate for my cat, but I was also able to repair a teacup. Now, I cherish and use everything at home!

The group size was small, which allowed us to enjoy the experience leisurely. For those driving, there is a parking space right next to the shop.

I definitely want to go again!

初めて金継ぎを体験しました。
GoogleマップでKuge Craftを見つけて、あたたかくて落ち着いた雰囲気が気に入りました。
オーナーご夫婦はとても優しく、親切で、丁寧に教えてくださいました。

猫用の小さなお皿を持って行ったのですが、それだけでなく湯のみも直すことができました。
今は全部うちで大切に使っています！

グループの人数も少なくて、ゆったり楽しめました。
車の方には、お店のすぐ横に駐車スペースもあります。

またぜひ行きたいです！

The staff were very polite and taught me well, and I was able to create something I am very satisfied with! I would love to go again if I have the chance to visit Tokyo! ✨

Takato Matsudaira was instructive, protective, and kind as he taught us about the knife-making process. It gave us a renewed appreciation for the knives that we use every day. At the end of this class, we produced wobbly, pitted knives that we'll treasure forever, because despite, or probably because of the imperfections, we made it ourselves!

This was a fantastic workshop! The instructor gave great explanations and instructions and speaks English. Very friendly and helpful.
My daughter and I did this as a mummy daughter experience and we loved it!

This class was so much fun. Our sensei was amazing. We received excellent explanations & demonstrations to help us understand the process. I would highly recommend this class!!

We had a great time in this studio during the rainstorm, and came home with amazing souvenirs!

J'ai pu pour la première fois réparer et décorer un petit bol ébréché entièrement seule grâce au très bon conseils du professeur. Ambiance familiale,Petit groupe nous étions quatre.
Café et gâteau servis à l'arrivée.
J'ai adoré et conseille vivement cet atelier.

The workshop was very hot.
We made items while learning about several processes in about 10 minutes each.
Since I couldn't pick it up the next day, I had it mailed to my home. When I made it, the drinking spout was bent, but they fixed it. I've been using it often and it reminds me of Okinawa.

工房はとても暑かったです。
一人10分弱の体験時間で、何工程かあるのを教わりながら作りました。
翌日の受け取りが無理だったので家に郵送してもらいました。作った時、飲み口が曲がっていましたが、直してくれていました。度々使って、沖縄を思い出しています。

This was my second experience. Last time, I chose a cherry-colored tumbler from a wide variety of glass shapes and colors, but this time, the colored glasses were limited to light blue, dark blue, and dark red, with only one shape available for each color. Since there were 11 participants from a company alumni gathering, I had hoped to create something with my preferred glass, but in the end, I had no choice but to select a clear glass. Many participants expressed disappointment afterward, saying, "It's a shame there were no colored glasses."

Additionally, last time, the staff made adjustments after the pieces were completed, but that didn't happen this time, which was disappointing. At first, I was nervous about carving, but as I got used to it, it became enjoyable, and I felt like I wanted to challenge myself to create a more elaborate piece with colored glass next time. Overall, it was a very fun experience, and I would like to try it again.

今回2回目の体験です。前回はグラスの形状、カラーが豊富で桜色のタンブラーを選びましたが、今回はカラーのグラスが薄い水色、濃いブルー、濃い赤のみでそれも各色1種類の形状のみでした。今回は会社のOBの集まりで11名参加と言うこともあり、出来るだけお好みのグラスで作成して頂きたかったのですが、結局、透明のグラスを選ぶしか無くて、参加後の感想も「色のグラスがなかったのが残念」と言う声が多数ありました。
また、前回は出来上がってからお店の方が修正を入れてくださったのですが、今回はそれがなかったのが残念でした。
始めは恐々削っていましたが、慣れてくると楽しくなって、カラーグラスでもう少し凝った作品にチャレンジしたいと思いました。
体験としてはとても楽しかったのでまた体験したいと思います。

I experienced this with my 6-year-old child, and the artisan's operation was smooth and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to receiving the glass we made.

I was worried because I'm not very skilled, but I was able to complete it with kind guidance. I think those who are good at drawing can create even better works. They said they would send the finished product later, and I'm looking forward to receiving it. I'm glad to have something tangible to remember this trip by. Thank you very much.

It seemed simple but was difficult; however, it was a good experience. For those who are clumsy, simple patterns or letters might be better. Next time, I want to try making a glass.

We had an absolutely delightful time at the kintsugi class. The hosts were exceptionally kind and friendly. The class was interesting and time flew by. We all left with our own piece restored pottery. A wonderful way to spend some time doing something interest with such nice and thoughtful people. As tourists it sometimes seems so rare to have an opportunity to interact with people in this way.

(The class is also very easy to get to by train.)

The explanation of the process was thorough and easy to understand. Even my 10-year-old child was able to participate happily. It was exciting to choose the wood, and we had a wonderful time. I want to use it a lot. Thank you very much.

She was very friendly and went through every step to show us how to do it.
My daughter thinks that she can fix some of chipped bowls at her home.
She is going to buy all tools need while we’re in Japan.

This was our second time booking this delightful experience—our first was last year, and we were excited to return! The location is very convenient, just a few minutes’ walk from the nearest train station, and easy to find.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality. Although the owner doesn’t speak much English, he went out of his way to communicate and make us feel welcome. He was incredibly friendly, kind, and guided us patiently through each step of the sundae-making process.

We could each choose up to five silicone food samples to decorate our sundae. First, we picked the color of the sundae base and then created it under the owner's guidance. After that, we learned how to twirl the sundae, which was really fun, before moving on to the decorating part.

The finished sundaes looked adorable—so realistic and yummy-looking! It was a really fun and hands-on activity, perfect for all ages. We had a great time and made some sweet memories. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and creative experience in Japan

This is a must stop for anyone who desires an authentic Tokyo experience. The hosts are not only talented but so welcoming. Where else would you get homemade cake and 40 years of artistic expression? This is not an experience my family will soon forget.

We had a great time at the kitsugi workshop where we not only learned exactly how to use the tools and create the art but also where we can get supplies to apply our learnings at home.

Wholeheartedly recommend to take 3 hours out of your time in Tokyo to do this.

The kintsugi workshop with Yoshiko and Yochiichiro was one of the top highlights of our trip to Japan. They were so warm, kind and welcoming.

I had the opportunity to experience Bingata at a hands-on workshop where I could try my hand at everything from coloring to outlining in about 90 minutes. I chose a tote bag and received a lecture from the instructor about the history of Bingata. It was a direct experience that made me realize just how difficult this art form is, and I truly appreciated its value. On the third day after bringing it home, I washed it... Although it's a rather clumsy piece I made myself, it has become a precious souvenir that carries the unique cultural scent of Okinawa. I hope Bingata becomes more widely known.

90分ほどで作品の色差しから隈取りまで体験させてもらえる体験型工房での紅型。トートバッグを選び、先生より紅型の歴史やレクチャーを教えてもらい、ダイレクトに体験して、こんなにも難しいものかと紅型という芸術の価値を改めて感じたひと時でした。持ち帰って3日目に洗いにかけて…自分で作ったへなちょこ作品ではありますが、沖縄のかけがえのない文化的な香りのするお土産となりました。もっと紅型が普及しますように。

Our family booked 2 sessions of workshop here, the first to make a parfait, ramen and curry rice, and the second to make 2 tempura sets. We went immediately when we touched down and as there were some delays at the airport and it was raining when we were traveling to the workshop, we were late and the owner of the workshop, Ito san, was standing outside looking worried and waiting for us. When he saw us, he warmly welcomed us and was patient with us whilst we settled down. Ito san was extremely patient and kind when teaching us how to make the various display food, especially with my daughter was so still young and so needed more time/strength to compete the display food. He patiently explained to us the different materials used and also made sure our end products were of high quality, adding on more materials as and when needed. In the end we exceeded our allocated time of 2hours but not once were we rushed at all. Ito san’s sincerity and skills shined throughout our workshops. I also heard the other facilitators teaching and they were patient as well. I would highly recommend the workshops here and thank you so much Ito san for such a memorable experience!

We had a wonderful time making our wax & PVC ramen at this workshop. It was fun and engaging and we highly recommend it!

The thrill of repairing an Edo period piece of pottery is indescribable. Yoshiko Kuge gently guided us through the process (after welcoming us with a pasty and tea).

The workshop is great, we learned a lot of things. It was my second time coming after 2018 and it is still wonderful. Thanks !

The workshop facilitator was pleasant and dedicated. All the information was provided to continue the practice of kintsugi. I enjoyed it very much, as I like meticulous work. I strongly recommend it.

This was such a wonderful experience! Yoshiichiro and Yoshiko were so kind and informative. They taught us about the entire kintsugi process and its history. They also gave us all the information we needed to fix our own ceramics when we get home. If you want an unforgettable experience and a one of a kind souvenir, don’t miss Kuge Crafts! This kintsugi class was one of the first things we did in Japan, and yet it was one of our favorite activities over our two-week trip!

Yoshiko and Yoshiichiro are welcoming, patient, knowledgable and talented instructors. We learned about the art of kintsugi and its history, snacked on delicious tea and snacks, and were guided through producing lovely pieces that we'll enjoy for years to come. Furthermore, we had great conversations (English is not an issue) and lots of laughs.

We loved our visit to Kuge Crafts! The hosts were super lovely, enthusiastic to share their craft with us, willing to answer questions, and provided lots of beautiful examples of kintsugi to guide our creation process. If you go for a 1-day class, you will only have time to repair small chips in cups, rather than full cracks, as these take time to dry. You will have plenty of time to paint your piece, however, with gold accents!
