A stone path that winds alongside a canal, the Philosopher's Path is among the well-loved sights of Kyoto. The path is lined with cherry trees and along the way are various shops, shrines and temples. It derives its name from Kitaro Nishido, a philosopher in the 20th century, who walked this path for daily meditation as he made his way to Kyoto University. The Philosopher's Path is especially lovely in spring with cherry blossoms in full bloom.
