The name "Kiyomizu" means "pure water," and this UNESCO World Heritage Site was so named after the water that comes from Otowa Waterfall. Within the temple grounds, visitors can drink from the waterfall, divided into three streams that represent good fortune in health, studies and love. Kiyomizudera is also known for its large wooden veranda that offers guests a gorgeous view of Higashiyama. The view is especially beautiful in spring and autumn.
